Описание: Jung was intrigued from early in his career with coincidences, especially those surprising juxtapositions that scientific rationality could not adequately explain. He discussed these ideas with Albert Einstein before World War I, but first used the term "synchronicity" in a 1930 lecture, in reference to the unusual psychological insights generated from consulting the "I Ching." A long correspondence and friendship with the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Wolfgang Pauli stimulated a final, mature statement of Jung's thinking on synchronicity, originally published in 1952 and reproduced here. Together with a wealth of historical and contemporary material, this essay describes an astrological experiment Jung conducted to test his theory. "Synchronicity" reveals the full extent of Jung's research into a wide range of psychic phenomena. This paperback edition of Jung's classic work includes a new foreword by Sonu Shamdasani, Philemon Professor of Jung History at University College London.

Описание:
This book overviews a revolutionary new method of psychotherapy, Lifespan Integration, which Peggy Pace developed beginning in 2002. Lifespan Integration (LI) is an efficient body-based psychotherapeutic method which helps clients recover from traumatic events including childhood neglect and abuse. Lifespan Integration therapy differs from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in that LI bypasses the cognitive mind, and allows 'learning' to take place at the body level. 'Watching' repetitions of the life narrative permits the client's neural system to weave new 'information' about the passage of time into existing neural networks throughout the body-mind. This re-structuring and re-patterning within existing neural networks retains the memories of past events while incorporating the 'understanding' that time has passed. In this book Pace describes the Lifespan Integration method, and cites recent discoveries in the field of neuroscience to support her hypothesis about how and why the Lifespan Integration technique is so effective. This book is not intended to be instructional. Therapists should not attempt to use the Lifespan Integration method until they have completed a Lifespan Integration training program.

Описание: This pioneering textbook takes a thematic approach to the subject, resulting in a comprehensive understanding of historic economic issues in the United States. Siegler takes a thematic approach, and provides both the theoretical foundations and historical background needed to gain an in-depth understanding of the subject. Every chapter examines a specific topic, and the chapters are linked to each other to provide an overall view. The chronological approach is represented with a useful timeline as an appendix to show where the specific topics fit in the chronology. Chapter topics include: long-run causes of economic growth; economic history of income and wealth inequality; slavery, segregation, and discrimination; immigration and immigration policies; and an economic history of recessions and depressions. This book is ideally suited as a primary text for undergraduate courses in US economic history, as well as suitable courses on history degree programmes.
Описание: The Francophone Caribbean boasts a trove of literary gems. Distinguished by innovative, elegant writing and thought-provoking questions of history and identity, this exciting body of work demands scholarly attention. Its authors treat the traumatic legacies of shared and personal histories pervading Caribbean experience in striking ways, delineating a path towards reconciliation and healing. The creation of diverse personal narratives—encompassing autobiography, autofiction (heavily autobiographical fiction), travel writing, and reflective essay—remains characteristic of many Caribbean writers and offers poignant illustrations of the complexinterchange between shared and personal pasts and how they affect individual lives.Through their historically informed autobiography, the authorsin this study—Maryse Cond?, Gis?le Pineau, Patrick Chamoiseau, Edwidge Danticat, and Dany Laferri?re—offer compelling insights into confronting, coming to terms with, and reconciling their past. The employment of personal narratives as the vehicle to carry out this investigation points to a tension evident in these writers’ reflections, which constantly move between the collective and the personal. As an inescapably complex network, their past extends beyond the notion of a single, private life. These contemporary authors from Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Haiti intertwine their personal memories with reflections on the histories of their homelands and on the European and North American countries they adopt through choice or necessity. They reveal a multitude of deep connections that illuminate distinct Francophone Caribbean experiences.
Описание: A fresh look at the wheel of the year, drawing on the power of intuition to create rituals and celebrations in harmony with your own traditions, your locale, and the climate of where you live. When we think of the wheel of the year, the Wiccan wheel with its celebrations of the Yule, Beltane, Mabon, and Samhain come to mind. But what about a wheel of the year for the rest of us pagans and witches? As a witch living in sunny South Florida, longtime hereditary witch Temperance Alden has often felt at odds gearing up to celebrate Yule, for example, when it is 76 degrees and sunny outside. Year of the Witch will help readers create their own intuitive practices in harmony with the climate, culture, and local spirits where they live. It's of interest to witches coming off the Wiccan path and looking for a more personal approach to celebrating the rhythms of nature. Year of the Witch covers all aspects of this new, seasonal practice:
The origins of the neo-pagan wheel of the year and why it is still so relevant today
Culture, historical facts, and traditions associated with the major ceremonies
Basic principles of land-based magick
How to intuitively connect to the nature below your feet and the local gods
Being a custodian to the land and its impact on our spiritual practice
