Описание: This study reports on a remarkable discovery and a pioneering example of historical archaeology in Latin America: an unknown settlement was found nestled between rocky cliffs in the Argentinian jungle. Dated to between 1943-6, finds are characterised by exotic European luxuries, German coins and coins from the occupied countries of Western Europe.

The Bible's grand narrative about Israel's Exodus from Egypt is central to Biblical religion, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim identity and the formation of the academic disciplines studying the ancient Near East. It has also been a pervasive theme in artistic and popular imagination. Israel's Exodus in Transdisciplinary Perspective is a pioneering work surveying this tradition in unprecedented breadth, combining archaeological discovery, quantitative methodology and close literary reading. Archaeologists, Egyptologists, Biblical Scholars, Computer Scientists, Geoscientists and other experts contribute their diverse approaches in a novel, transdisciplinary consideration of ancient topography, Egyptian and Near Eastern parallels to the Exodus story, the historicity of the Exodus, the interface of the Exodus question with archaeological fieldwork on emergent Israel, the formation of biblical literature, and the cultural memory of the Exodus in ancient Israel and beyond.
This edited volume contains research presented at the groundbreaking symposium Out of Egypt: Israel's Exodus Between Text and Memory, History and Imaginationheld in 2013 at the Qualcomm Institute of the University of California, San Diego. The combination of 44 contributions by an international group of scholars from diverse disciplines makes this the first such transdisciplinary study of ancient text and history. In the original conference and with this new volume, revolutionary media, such as a 3D immersive virtual reality environment, impart innovative, Exodus-based research to a wider audience. Out of archaeology, ancient texts, science and technology emerge an up-to-date picture of the Exodus for the 21st Century and a new standard for collaborative research.
The book gives up-to-date, multi-aspect exposition of the philosophy and methodology of information, and related areas within the nascent field of the study of information. It presents the most recent achievements, ideas and opinions of leading researchers in this domain, as well as from physicists, biologists and social scientists. Collaboration of researchers from different areas and fields opens new perspectives for the understanding of information essential in the innovative development of science, technology and society.
The book is meant for readers conducting research into any aspect of information, information society and information technology. The ideas presented give new insights for those who develop or implement scientific, technological or social applications. They are especially for those who are participating in setting the goals for science in general and sciences of information in particular.

Over centuries, scholars have explored how metaphor contributes to thought, language, culture. This collection of essays reflects on M ller, Kappelhoff, and colleagues' transdisciplinary (film studies and linguistics) approach formulated in Cinematic Metaphor: Experience - Affectivity - Temporality. The key concept of cinematic metaphor opens up reflections on metaphor as a form of embodied meaning-making in human life across disciplines.
The book documents collaborative work, reflecting intense, sometimes controversial, discussions across disciplinary boundaries. In this edited volume, renowned authors explore how exposure to the framework of Cinematic Metaphor inspires their views of metaphor in film and of metaphor theory and analysis more generally.
Contributions include explorations from the point of view of applied linguistics (Lynne Cameron), cognitive linguistics (Alan Cienki), media studies (Kathrin Fahlenbrach), media history (Michael Wedel), philosophy (Anne Eusterschulte), and psychology (Raymond W. Gibbs, Jr.).

Описание: This two-volume set CCIS 961 and 962 constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the First International Conference on Transdisciplinary Multispectral Modeling and Cooperation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, TMM_CH 2018, held in Athens, Greece, in October 2018.73 revised full papers of 237 submissions are included in these volumes. The papers of the first volume are organized in the following topical sections: the project of the rehabilitation of Holy Sepulchre’s Holy Aedicule as a pilot multispectral, multidimensional, novel approach through transdisciplinary and cooperation in the protection of monuments; digital heritage; novel educational approach for the preservation of monuments; resilience to climate change and natural hazards; conserving sustainably the materiality of structures and architectural authenticity; and interdisciplinary preservation and management of cultural heritage. And the papers of the second volume are organized in the following topical sections: sustainable preservation and management lessons learnt on emblematic monuments; cross-discipline earthquake protection and structural assessment of monuments; cultural heritage and pilgrimage tourism; reuse, circular economy and social participation as a leverage for the sustainable preservation and management of historic cities; inception – inclusive cultural heritage in Europe through 3D semantic modelling; heritage at risk; and advanced and non-destructive techniques for diagnosis, design and monitoring.
Описание: Two questions often shape our view of the world. On the one hand, we ask what there is and, on the other hand, we ask what there ought to be. Empirical research and normative theory, the methodological traditions concerned with these questions, entered a difficult relationship, from at least as early as around the time of the advent of modern sciences. To this day, there remains a strong separation between the two domains, with both tending to neglect discourses and results from the other. Contrary to a verdict of strict segregation between "is" and "ought," there are, nowadays, various attempts to integrate both theoretical approaches. This calls for a discourse on the relation between empirical research and normative theory. In this volume, scholars from different disciplines – including psychology, sociology, economics, and philosophy – discuss the possible desired or undesired influences on, and limits of, the integration of these two theoretical approaches.
Capitalizing on forty years of intensive ecological studies, this anthology presents a collection of widely dispersed major publications on theoretical and practical Mediterranean, global environmental and landscape issues. These range from Mediterranean ecosystems and vegetation types in California and Israel, to the significance of fire in the evolution of cultural Mediterranean landscapes in the Pleistocene and Early Holocene with special reference to Mt. Carmel; and from the development of Tanzania Masailand, a sociological and ecological challenge to multifunctional, self-organizing biosphere landscapes and the future of our Total Human Ecosystem.
Each chapter features a comprehensive study of ecological and landscape issues, synthesized in the introduction, and woven with autobiographical experiences. The concluding chapter calls for a transdisciplinary shift in all environmental scientific fields and particularly in landscape and restoration ecology, to cope with the complex, closely interwoven ecological, socio-economical, political and cultural crises facing human society during the present crucial transition from the industrial to the post-industrial, global information age.
Updating and broadening the scope of the groundbreaking Springer book on Landscape Theory and Applications by the author and Lieberman (1994), this is a unique transdisciplinary attempt based on advanced systems complexity theories, which link the natural and human sciences. It will be of value for all those dealing with land and landscape study in the broadest sense as academic scientists, researchers and scholars, professionals and practitioners and students.
