Knowledge and Information (K&I) is a peer-reviewed information science book series appearing as a print and as an ebook version, publishing high quality research monographs and topic-specific collections of papers as well. It covers information science to the full extent and alludes additionally to neighboring sciences such as computer science, computational linguistics, (information) business administration, and library science. The language of publication is English.
The scope of information science comprehends representing, providing, searching and finding of relevant knowledge including all activities of information professionals (e.g., indexing and abstracting) and users (e.g., their information behavior). An important research area is information retrieval, the science of search engines and their users. Topics of knowledge representation include metadata as well as methods and tools of knowledge organization systems (folksonomies, nomenclatures, classification systems, thesauri, and ontologies). Informetrics is empirical information science and consists among others of the domain-specific metrics (e.g., scientometrics, webometrics, patent analysis), user and usage research, and evaluation of information systems. Knowledge management is concerned with the sharing and distribution of internal and external information in organizations. The information market can be defined by the exchange of digital information on networks, especial the World Wide Web. Further important research areas of information science are information ethics, information law, information sociology, and information policy.
Information science provides basic research for other scientific fields, among others for computer science and for library science, and for a lot of practical endeavors, such as the construction of search engines, the organization of digital libraries as well as commercial information supply, the operation of catalogues of libraries, museums etc., the installation and maintenance of corporate knowledge management, the design of Web sites, and business strategies on the WWW.
The editors like to invite all information science scholars to offer - monographs of research results (including Ph.D.-Theses) and - suggestions for collections of papers for publication in K&I. All books may have a volume of about 300 pages or more. Monographs and articles in collections will be reviewed at least by two of the editors or co-editors.

Описание: The aim of this project is to bring together fifteen extensively revised, peer-reviewed articles by international scholars covering a diverse range of fields-from cinema to economics to history to the social sciences-addressing issues in contemporary Japan. These fifteen are all contributors to the first ten years of the EJCJS-the Electronic Journal of Contemporary Japanese Studies. The principal strengths of this volume are its diversity of approaches and its fundamentally interdisciplinary nature: it allows researchers in different fields to contribute to an overall understanding of Japan from the 1950s to the present. This 'understanding' is indeed comprehensive: chapters range from economics to politics to theatre, literature, immigration issues, religion, and multiculturalism. The chapters are uniformly precise in their analyses, drawing on many different forms of research, from textual analysis, historical documentation, linguistic analysis, to participant interviews and media studies. The diverse range of subject matter holds together very well, in that the contributors operate within a set of similar central values: the primacy of practical research over theory; the centrality of Japan even in studies which situate that country internationally; clarity of expression over jargon; and the desire to include readers through rhetorical care rather than exclude through esoteric applications of over-specialised terminology or assumptions. The chapters, while academic and informed by current scholarship, are accessible to general readers with interest in contemporary Japan. In this, the volume distinguishes itself as a highly readable, pertinent compendium of scholarship on contemporary Japan. It does not aim to be 'all things for all readers' but rather demonstrates to its readership the ways in which diverse aspects of contemporary Japan interlock and influence each other. Thus, aspects of contemporary religion show the influence of current economic conditions, while questions of Japanese identity reflect immigration issues and aspects of multiculturalism, while emerging in contemporary Japanese forms of mobile communication and linguistic change. Public transport in low-income Asian (LIA) cities fails to meet people’s mobility needs, generates high greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and worsens social exclusion. Following successful Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects in Bogota and Curitib?, LIA countries promoted BRT in their large to medium-sized cities. However, the political and institutional structure distinctive to LIA cities makes their implementation difficult. This book investigates policy tensions by examining the planning and attempted implementation of BRT projects, taking Bandung and Surabaya in Indonesia as case studies. It analyses BRT to understand how power and communication gaps in institutional relationships between different actors at multiple levels of governance create conflict, and concludes that top-down policies and funding mechanisms cause tension in intergovernmental relationships. It also found that BRT solutions generated socio-political tension arising from the socio-economic realities and local political dynamics that shaped city structure, mobility patterns and capacity in resolving conflicts. The superimposed BRT solution generated discursive tension because conflicting discourses were not aligned with local economic, social, and environmental issues. The book highlights the need to take into consideration the vital role of local social and political actors, institutions and planning processes as they respond to and shape policies that are imposed by higher levels.
