Developed by professionals with a extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of deep endometriosis, it provides a global overview of the disease, from basic clinical aspects of imaging diagnosis, to the correlation with surgical findings and histopathological results. Deep endometriosis is a serious gynecological condition, which can severely impact on women’s quality of life. It shares the main features of regular endometriosis, but also displays a highly infiltrative pattern, involving multiple organs and leading to severe symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain and dyspareunia.  Atlas of Deep Endometriosis – MRI and Laparoscopic Correlations is a complete guide, intended for radiologists, gynecologists and all other medical professionals interested on the diagnosis and treatment of deep endometriosis.(NOTE:  This title was previously published in 2014 in Portuguese and Spanish and comes from our partnership with Brazilian publisher, Revinter.)

Описание:

Endometriosis materializes when the endometrium the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus sheds, but does not exit a woman s body during her period. Instead, it grows outside of the uterus, spreading to organs and nerves in and around the pelvic region. The resulting pain is so physically and emotionally insufferable that it can mercilessly dominate a woman s life. The average woman with endometriosis is twenty-seven years old before she is diagnosed. It is one of the top three causes of female infertility. The pain it emits can affect a woman s career, social life, relationships, sexual activity, sleep, and diet. It is incurable, but highly treatable. Unfortunately, though, it is rarely treated in a timely manner, if at all, because of misdiagnoses and/or a lack of education among those in the medical community.

This book gives hope to everyone connected to endometriosis. That includes every woman and young girl who has it, and the women and men in their lives the mothers, fathers, husbands, children, and friends who know something is wrong, but do not know what it is or what to do about it. This book is written at a level that everyone with ties to this disease can relate to and understand, but it is also for doctors with good intentions who lack the knowledge of how to diagnose or treat it.

"The Doctor Will See You Now" is for women determined to let the world know their stories so that every woman with this disease from the thirteen-year-old girl who is being told that her pain is part of becoming a woman to the woman who has been misdiagnosed for decades knows she is not alone.

Yes, her pain is real.

No, she is not crazy.

Yes, there is hope."

Описание: Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus - the endometrium - grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis. This book is a practical guide to the diagnosis and management of endometriosis.

Divided into 12 sections, the text begins with an overview of the pathogenesis and impacts of the condition, followed by discussion on its diagnosis and staging system. The following chapters cover therapeutic techniques including pain management and surgery, and recurrent endometriosis. A complete chapter is dedicated to adolescent endometriosis.

The book concludes with discussion on endometriosis-associated infertility, endometriomas, deep infiltrating endometriosis, whereby other organs near the uterus such as the bowel and bladder can also be affected; and adenomyosis. The comprehensive text is highly illustrated with clinical photographs, diagrams, tables and detailed references to further enhance learning. Описание: Endometriosis is a chronic benign estrogen-dependent disease which is characterized by the presence of endometriotic glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. It affects women during reproductive age, but it may also be diagnosed in menopausal women. Endometriosis can be asymptomatic; but most frequently it can be responsible for pain symptoms and/or infertility, severely impacting women' quality of life.

Overall, clinical presentation depends on the location of endometriotic lesions: intestinal symptoms can occur in case of bowel nodules whereas urinary symptoms can occur in case of urinary tract endometriosis. At the moment, the exact prevalence of endometriosis is unknown because its definitive diagnosis requires surgery and histological evaluation. It has been estimated that this benign chronic disease affects at least 3.6% of reproductive age women; however, its prevalence could significantly increase considering women suffering from dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain and/or infertility.

The etiology of endometriosis is unclear: various factors, such as multiple abnormalities of the immune system, genetic factors and environmental factors may influence women' susceptibility to develop this chronic disease. Although the gold standard for the diagnosis of endometriosis is the pathological evaluation of surgical biopsies or specimens, today transvaginal ultrasonography is largely employed to reliably identify the presence of deep infiltrating endometriosis or ovarian endometriomas. The aim of the surgery for endometriosis is to restore the normal anatomy by removing endometriotic lesions and by performing adequate removal of abdominal adhesions.

However, surgery, in case of deep infiltrating implants, can be rather challenging for gynecologists due to the complexity of pelvic adhesions involving several structures and it may be characterized by rare but not negligible urological, intestinal, neurological and vascular complications. Furthermore, pain may recur after conservative surgery for endometriosis. Although surgery is obviously required in cases of ureteral stenosis, bowel occlusion or ovarian cysts with doubtful characteristics of malignancy, medical therapy, and, particularly, hormonal therapies, are the initial therapeutic approach today for most patients with endometriosis-related pain.

Long-term medical therapy for endometriosis aims to minimize the production and action of estradiol, inhibiting the production of cyclic hormones from the ovaries. Numerous medical options (such as estroprogestins, progestins, gonadotropin- releasing hormones analogs and antagonists) are available for treating women with endometriosis: the choice of the most suitable compound is based on several factors, such as intensity of pain, age, desire to conceive, costs, route of administration and impact of the endometriosis on work capacity, sexual function and quality of life of each women. Currently, research is focused on finding new innovative targets to treat this benign chronic disease; in fact, it is well known that development, maintenance and progression of endometriosis depend on a variety of aberrant mechanisms including cell proliferation, immune function, apoptosis, invasion capacity and angiogenesis.

The aim of this book is to give an accurate overview on pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of endometriosis.
