Hamburg's air terminal, the concert hall in Lubeck, the industrial exhibition halls in Leipzig, the renovation of the Stuttgart train station, the harbour terminal in Yokohama and the Helsinki train station are a few of their 137 projects documented here. Predominant in all these projects is the emphasis von Gerkan, Marg and Partners place on the aesthetics of the large form, the connection between interior and exterior, the ordering of large-volumed structures and the harmony of proportions. The Lehrter railway station in Berlin, by far Germany's largest station project, is an exemplary case in point: imposingly dimensioned, it obeys design mandates calling for clarity of arrangement, expansiveness, maximal utilization of natural lighting, and sleek functionalism. Von Gerkan, Marg und Partner--stylized as gmp--is an international architectural firm founded by German designers Meinhard von Gerkan (born 1935) and Volkwin Marg (born 1936) in Hamburg.
