Описание: Publius (or Gaius) Cornelius Tacitus (c. AD 56 - c. 120) was a Roman historian and politician. Tacitus is considered by modern scholars to be one of the greatest Roman historians. He lived in what has been called the Silver Age of Latin literature, and has a reputation for the brevity and compactness of his Latin prose, as well as for his penetrating insights into the psychology of power politics. The surviving portions of his two major works-the Annals and the Histories-examine the reigns of the emperors Tiberius, Claudius, Nero, and those who reigned in the Year of the Four Emperors (69 AD). These two works span the history of the Roman Empire from the death of Augustus, in 14 AD, to 70 AD in the First Jewish-Roman War of 66-73.

Описание:
This research volume reassesses one of the most fundamental transformations in Late Antiquity, centered on a pivotal region: the transition from ‘Empire’ to ‘Kingdom’ in Italy c. 250-500. During the first quarter of the first millennium, Italy was still the heart of the Roman Empire; the only political superstructure ever managing to encompass the entire Mediterranean world and its European hinterland. Yet during the second quarter of this millennium, Italy underwent dramatic evolutions from demotion to a provincialized region (c. 285-395), to a new imperial hub kept afloat by cannibalizing other provinces’ resources (c. 395-476), to an autonomous regnum governed by non-Roman rulers as part of an Eastern Roman ‘Commonwealth’ (c. 475-535).

Описание:
In The Ancient City, Fustel de Coulanges hands us the skeleton key unlocking classical civilization: the Indo-European domestic cult. With a formidable command of primary sources, he shows this archaic religion to be the engine behind the social developments of the ancient world from remote pre-history down to late antiquity. This is the story of the descent of the traditional social order par excellence into something approximating liberalism, and it has never been better told, nor more fully explained.
In his foreword, Dennis Bouvard views The Ancient City through the lens of generative anthropology, leveraging the originary hypothesis of Eric Gans to explain the work in terms of shared origins, sacrality, and the belief in a center. In so doing, he points the way to a post-liberal understanding of our own social order, informed by the imperative order described by Fustel.
As with all Imperium Press titles, this edition is suitable for lay or academic use, including an extensive bibliography and index. This is now the definitve edition of a long overlooked work with the potential to change the course of the dissident right.

Описание:
The first two centuries of the Christian era were largely a period of consolidation for the Roman Empire. However, the history of the heyday of Roman imperium is far from dull, for Augustus' successors ranged from capable administrators - Tiberius, Claudius and Hadrian - to near-madmen like Caligula and the amateur gladiator Commodus, who might have wrecked the system but for its inherent strength.
Albino Garzetti's classic From Tiberius to the Antonines, first publishedin 1960, presents a definitive account of this fascinating period, which combines a clear and readable narrative with a thorough discussion of the methodological problems and primary sources. Regarding difficult historical questions, it can be relied upon for careful and reasonable judgments based on a full mastery of an immense amount of material. Nearly three hundred pages of critical notes and a comprehensive bibliography complement the text, ensuring its continuing relevance for all students of Roman history.
If you want to discover the captivating life of Tiberius, then keep reading...
Compared with the preceding rulers, Julius Caesar and Augustus, the name does not ring out with the same fame and pomposity. Shakespeare wrote no plays about Tiberius; his name does not echo in the history books with the same awe-inspiring prominence. Even his successors, Caligula and Nero, are more famous than he was. In fact, Tiberius can hardly be called famous at all. History knows him more for his infamy.
Tiberius is remembered, if he is remembered at all, for his bad behavior. He spent much of his rule on a Greek island surrounded by every pleasure that his diseased flesh could dream of, abandoning his empire to scandal and intrigue. He is a great villain of Roman history.
In Tiberius: A Captivating Guide to the Life of Ancient Rome's Second Emperor and How He Ruled the Roman Empire, you will discover topics such as
Before the Emperors
Born into Turmoil
The Eye of the Emperor
In the Shadow of Augustus
First Conquest
Forced Marriage
Rock Bottom
Ascension
A Slippery Slope to Capri
The Last Javelin
And much, much more

Описание: Set in the final days of the Trojan War, Homer`s poem recounts a formative moment in not only Greek culture, but in that of the West as a whole. In Bryant`s sublime blank verse, Homer`s winged words take flight, never surpassed but in the Greek for grace and power.
