Описание: The second edition of Neurologic Disorders of the Larynx is a comprehensive reference assembling the clinical knowledge of a multidisciplinary team of experts in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of laryngeal dysfunction. Divided into three main sections, the book opens with a review of basic physiologic concepts, covering relevant anatomy, neural innervation, and electrophysiology. It then provides practical discussion of examination and diagnostic techniques, including the use of electromyography, acoustic assessment, and FEEST. Chapters in the final section of the book address a range of clinical disorders, providing detailed descriptions of the underlying pathophysiology as well as the medical, surgical, and therapeutic treatments available. Highlights of the second edition: -New chapters cover laryngeal dysfunction in sleep; FEES and FEEST testing; evaluation of paresis and paralysis; vocal fold augmentation, medialization, arytenoids adduction and re-innervation; and management of swallowing disorders and aspiration -Comprehensive presentation of different management techniques enables clinicians to select the strategy that works best for each particular situation -Current information on movement disorders includes descriptions of their manifestations in the larynx and appropriate speech therapy -Nearly 1 drawings and photographs demonstrate key concepts This book is an indispensable single-volume resource for clinicians and residents involved in caring for patients with laryngeal disorders, including otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, and neurologists. It is also an ideal reference for speech pathologists, rehabilitation specialists, and speech scientists.
Описание: Serves as an introductory guide to the origin, definition, and use of evidence-based practice in communication disorders. This book serves as a reference for speech-language pathologists and audiologists to the principles and process of evidence-based practice.
Описание: The last 25 years have witnessed an explosion of research at the intersection of typical language development and child language disorders. A pioneer in bringing these fields of study together is Robin S. Chapman, Emerita, University of Wisconsin. This c
This volume presents the findings of a large-scale study of individual differences in spoken (and heard) language development during the school years. The goal of the study was to investigate the degree to which language abilities at school entry were stable over time and influential in the child's overall success in important aspects of development.
The methodology was a longitudinal study of over 600 children in the US Midwest during a 10-year period. The language skills of these children -- along with reading, academic, and psychosocial outcomes -- were measured. There was intentional oversampling of children with poor language ability without being associated with other developmental or sensory disorders. Furthermore, these children could be sub-grouped based on their nonverbal abilities, such that one group represents children with specific language impairment (SLI), and the other group with nonspecific language impairment (NLI) represents poor language along with depressed nonverbal abilities.
Throughout the book, the authors consider whether these distinctions are supported by evidence obtained in this study and which aspects of development are impacted by poor language ability. Data are provided that allow conclusions to be made regarding the level of risk associated with different degrees of poor language and whether this risk should be viewed as lying on a continuum.
The volume will appeal to researchers and professionals with an interest in children's language development, particularly those working with children who have a range of language impairments. This includes Speech and Language Pathologists; Child Neuropsychologists; Clinical Psychologists working in Education, as well as Psycholinguists and Developmental Psychologists.
