Описание: This book is intended for periodontal residents and practicing periodontists who wish to incorporate the principles of moderate sedation into daily practice. Comprehensive airway management and rescue skills are then documented in detail so that the patient may be properly managed in the event that the sedation progresses beyond the intended level.

Описание: This book on water and climate change goes beyond the usual and predictable analyses, by bringing religion and values into a discussion that is often dominated by technocratic solutions. The three case studies of Jakarta, Cape Town, and Amsterdam demonstrate the challenges of water management in urban areas and the role religion can play in addressing them. With representatives from science, politics, economics, and religion, as well as young voices, the book stimulates a values-driven dialogue on issues of water in times of climate change.
While most books examine only the classical aspects of hydrology, this three-volume set covers multiple aspects of hydrology. It examines new approaches, addresses growing concerns about hydrological and ecological connectivity, and considers the worldwide impact of climate change.
It also provides updated material on hydrological science and engineering, discussing recent developments as well as classic approaches. Published in three books, Fundamentals and Applications; Modeling, Climate Change, and Variability; and Environmental Hydrology and Water Management, the entire set consists of 87 chapters, and contains 29 chapters in each book.
The chapters in this book contain information on:
Climate change and hydrological hazards, hydrological modeling, and urban water systems, as well as climate change impacts on hydrology and water resources, climate change uncertainty, vulnerability, and adaption
Rainfall estimation and changes, hydrological changes of mangrove ecosystems, impact of the development of vegetation on flow conditions and flood hazards, urbanization impacts on runoff regime, and discretization in urban watersheds
Artificial neural network-based modeling of hydrologic processes, flow and sediment transport modeling in rivers, hybrid hydrological modeling, hydrologic modeling: stochastic processes, and time series analysis of hydrologic data
Dam risk and uncertainty, drought indices for drought risk assessment in a changing climate, hydrologic prediction and uncertainty quantification, uncertainty and risk of the PMP and PMF
Geostatistics applications in hydrology, GIS applications in a changing climate, GIS-based upland erosion mapping, regional flood frequency analysis, regionalization of hydrological extreme events, remote sensing data and information for hydrological monitoring and modeling
Application of copulas in hydrology, bankfull frequency of rivers, statistical parameters used for assessing hydrological regime, significance of statistical tests and persistence in hydrologic processes
Students, practitioners, policy makers, consultants and researchers can benefit from the use of this text.

Описание: The following anthology delivers sound analysis to the theoretical classification of the current societal phenomenon - between innovative, world changing and yet disruptive technology, as well as societal and cultural transformation.Lifelogging, digital self-tracking and the real-time chronicling of man’s lifetime, is not only a relevant societal topic in the world of research and academic science these days, but can also be found in literature, cultural pages of the written press and the theatre. The spectrum of Lifelogging ranges from sleep, mood, sex and work logging to Thing and Deathlogging. This leads to several questions: How does one live in a data society? Is “measured” man automatically also “better” man? And if so, what is the cost? Do new categories of reality or principles of social classification develop as a result of Lifelogging? How does the “social view” on things change? The authors in this anthology provide insightful answers to these pressing questions.
While artificial intelligence (AI), robots, bio-technologies and digital media are transforming work, culture, and social life, there is little understanding of or agreement about the scope and significance of this change. This new interpretation of the 'great transformation' uses history and evolutionary theory to highlight the momentous shift in human consciousness taking place. Only by learning from recent crises and rejecting technological determinism will governments and communities redesign social arrangements that ensure we all benefit from the new and emerging technologies.
The book documents the transformations under way in financial markets, entertainment, and medicine, affecting all aspects of work and social life. It draws on historical sociology and co-evolutionary theory arguing that the radical evolution of human consciousness and social life now under way is comparable with, if not greater than, the agrarian revolution (10000 BCE), the explosion of science, philosophy, and religion in the Axial Age (600 BCE), and the recent Industrial Revolution. Turning to recent major socio-economic crisis, and asking what can be learnt from them, the answer is we cannot afford this time around to repeat the failures of elites and theoretical systems such as economics to attend appropriately to radical change. We need to think beyond the constraints of determinist and reductionist explanations and embrace the idea of deep freedom.
This book will appeal to educators, social scientists, policy-makers, business leaders, and students. It concludes with social design principles that can inform deliberative processes and new social arrangements that ensure everyone benefits from the affordances of the new and emerging technologies.
Описание: This book investigates the widespread influence of the sharing economy on businesses and society, as well as examining its underpinning economic principles and development.
As the world deals with Climate Change it has become clear that the time for delays is over and we need to come up with a complete time bound plan that is adequate in preventing excessive temperature rise and then to implement it That is what this book offers. It describes a detailed plan that will help our Earth transform to one that has plenty of renewable energy, improves the living conditions of people, and is beautiful and healthy.
There is no question of doing without or even going backwards. The Book shows that there can be plenty of renewable energy for our expanding global energy needs while we are getting rid of fossil fuels and reducing our carbon emissions from them to zero by 2050 in order to keep global average temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius (1.5C). This is the temperature rise which the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned us we must not exceed in order to avoid the worst consequences of climate change.
Since Global Warming is a GLOBAL issue, the book presents a Global Energy Plan that is quantitatively adequate and timebound, in order to achieve that by the year 2050. It also presents detailed and quantitative energy, climate and ecosystem plans for the US, California, China, India, the European Union and general plans for other categories of nations. The variability of renewable energy (especially Solar) is overcome by showing that this energy can be stored in large quantities. The plans are technically feasible (meaning that they can be applied practically) and are economically viable (meaning that they are within the financial capacity of global society). While most of the plan can be implemented by current technical capabilities, the book shows that there is much scope for technical, social, business and political innovations that will increase our capabilities, which we are fully capable of.
So, leave gloom and doom behind. For the world and for each of the nations for which plans are presented, the book describes the worsening conditions that are hurting these nations in a big way (from worsening natural disasters, to bad pollutions, worsening health, and the worsening conditions for agriculture, water shortages and heat waves), and why these nations CANNOT AFFORD to delay implementation of climate change solutions of the type described in the book.
The US Green New Deal (GND) is a very good set of aspirations that aims at what the US should do to help with its share of solving the climate crisis, while at the same time improving the lives of people. The book describes how its plan will implement the mobilization goals described in the Green New Deal. It then goes on to describe a Global Green New Deal, and what this will mean for the world. Most importantly, the book also includes a global plan for strengthening and empowering a United Nations based global organization to plan, organize, fund, coordinate and implement the global plan.

Описание: This volume contains two Open Access chapters. Digital Transformation and Institutional Theory explores how manifestations of digital transformation requires rethinking of our understanding and theorization of institutional processes.
Описание: In the context of the (digital) transformation of economy and society, the technology acceptance of the population is increasingly influenced by a perceived loss of control through new technologies. Loss of control is defined in this volume as a multi-causal, multi-modal and cyclical process of transition of control and conceptually brought together in a multi-dimensional heuristic model. The results of a first quantitative-empirical analysis for Baden-W?rttemberg based on this model confirm that loss of control is a central factor influencing technology acceptance, but is perceived differently by different socio-demographic groups.
