Описание: Dyslexia Defused is a work of original strategies aimed at altering the negative prognosis associated with reading failure. The novel techniques expedite mastery (academic impact) which in term restores a sense of competence to a once struggling student (affective impact).
Описание: Previously, dyslexia was defined as primarily a deficit at the word reading level. When the original edition of this book was published, the core deficit was thought to be phonological coding. The search for a single factor for dyslexia is no longer pursued. However, we must explore why approximately 15 per cent of school children have difficulties in learning to read or doing math. This updated edition offers an explanation based on contemporary developments in the study of cognition and neuroscience. It also studies the impact of poverty on learning, a relatively new but extremely important area of interest.
Going beyond a simple view of reading and math, Reading Difficulties and Dyslexia discusses distal factors such as cognitive flexibility and attentional control. A distinguishing feature of this book is that it presents intervention programmes, based on the distal factors, which can greatly improve word decoding and comprehension, and enhance number sense.
If your young student (age 5 to 7) has had problems with speech, and is not grasping the concepts of reading and writing when compared to his or her peers, and/or there is a family relative with dyslexia, then your student may have dyslexia. I Can Read, books A & B, are reading and writing workbooks which provide lessons in phonics for children who are just beginning to learn to read. The methods used in these books are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, in that every sound is taught in a cumulative manner with repetition. This is done so that poor readers, and those who are, or may be, dyslexic, will learn to read and write and not fall behind. Each lesson introduces a new sound followed by many exercises reinforcing the material just taught. Book A: the alphabet, consonants, vowels, consonant blends, FLOSS words, high frequency words, 'ch', 'sh', 'th', 'ck', 'ng', 'nk', VCV, 'oo', 'ou' and 'ow' as /ou/. Book B: 'ow' as long 'o', 'ay', 'ar', 'er', 'ir', 'or', 'ur', 'oy', 'oi', long vowel teams, the letter 'y', words ending with 'ie', 'ew', long 'o' words, long 'i' words, 'qu', 'au', 'aw', 'alk', 'ct', 'ea' as short 'e', protecting short vowels, and past tense words.
The I Can Fly Reading Program, Books A & B, are lesson-based workbooks which provide lessons in phonics for children who are just beginning to learn to read. The methods used in this program are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, in that every sound and spelling rule is taught in a structured, cumulative manner with repetition. Perfect for all young students, especially those who have learning delays, speech and language difficulties, APD, autism, and those with a family history of dyslexia and may be dyslexic.
This program is perfect for homeschooling, tutoring and for parents who need to help their children. There's no training needed, and the program is step-by-step, requiring no planning or lesson preparation. This program can also be used in the classroom with our Kindle version for the Smart Board or for remote teaching. All that is needed is the Kindle App (which can be used on PCs and Macs).
A web app is available to augment the program. Go to: www.ICanFlyReadingProgram (dot com).
