Описание: No other business process has endured such great debate as performance management. Viewed as a critical cornerstone for organizational alignment, it is often met with anxiety and confusion by both managers and employees. For over 50 years, strategies such as cascading goals and employee
ranking have tried to add value to performance management with little success. But in recent years, new ideas have transformed the field into a less formal process designed to encourage employee behaviors that actually drive performance.

Performance Management Transformation takes a practical approach to the current and future state of performance management across the organizational landscape. Case studies from Toyota, Patagonia, Medtronic, GoGo Inflight, and AbbVie, alongside research and commentary by thought leaders in the
field, showcase how organizations are taking control and redesigning their performance management processes to address their specific organizational goals, strategies, needs, and preferences.

Описание:

The steps you need, for the results you want.

There's no shortage of advice out there on how to perform better, and better than others, at work. The problem is knowing which methods are actually proven to work--and how you should act on them to get the best results.

In 8 Steps to High Performance, talent expert and bestselling author Marc Effron cuts through the noise with his signature "science-based simplicity" approach to identify what matters most and show you how to optimally apply your time and effort to boost your performance. It turns out that higher performance comes from doing many things well--but some of those things are not in your power to change. Effron reveals the eight key factors you do control and practical steps for improving yourself on each one. You'll learn:

  • How to set goals that create higher performance
  • Which behaviors predict higher performance in different situations
  • How to quickly develop the most important capabilities
  • Who to connect with and why
  • How to understand and adapt to your company's strategy
  • Why you sometimes shouldn't be the "genuine" you
  • How to best manage your body to sustain your performance
  • How to avoid management fads that distract you from high performance

Research-based, practical, and filled with self-assessments, tools, and templates to support your performance goals at work, this short, powerful book will help you and anyone on your team deliver outstanding results.

Описание: There is no HR-related topic more popular in the business press than performance management (PM). There has been an explosion in writing on this topic in the past 5 years, condemning it as a failure and calling for fundamental change. The vast majority of organizations use the same basic process which I call “Last Generation Performance Management” or PM 1.0 for short. Despite widespread agreement that PM 1.0 is failing, few companies have abandoned it or made fundamental changes to it. While everyone agrees it is broken, few agree on how to fix it. Companies continue to tinker with their systems, making incremental changes every few years with no lasting improvement in effectiveness. Employees continue to achieve amazing things in organizations every day, despite this process not because of it. Nothing has worked because organizations, business leaders and HR professionals focus on PM practices instead of the fundamental purpose of PM and the paradigms, assumptions, and beliefs that underlie the practices. Companies ask their performance management process to do too many things and it fails at all of them as a result. At the foundation of PM 1.0 practices is the ideology of a meritocracy and paradigms rooted in standard economic and psychological theories. While these theories were adequate explanations for motivation and behavior in the 19th and 20th centuries, they fail to account for the increasingly complex nature of organizations and their environments today. Despite the ineffectiveness of PM 1.0, there are powerful forces holding it in place. Information on rigorous, evidence-based recommendations is crowded out by benchmarking information, case studies of high-profile companies, and other propaganda coming from HR think tanks and consultants. Business leaders and HR professionals learn about common practices not effective practices. This book confronts the traditional dogma, paradigms, and practices of PM 1.0 and holds them up to the bright light of scientific scrutiny. It encourages HR professionals and business leaders to abandon PM 1.0 and it offers up a more appropriate purpose for PM, alternative paradigms to guide them and practical solutions that are better supported by scientific research, referred to as “Next Generation Performance Management” or PM 2.0 for short.

Описание:

Growing up in a trailer park and trying to stay out of trouble, fifteen-year-old Travis Tooke had zero plans for the future. Then one night a friend brought over a VHS-taped UFC tournament, and together they watched a slender Royce Gracie dismantle his opponents with something called jiu-jitsu.

With that one fuzzy video, Travis's life found direction.

Jiu-Jitsu and Life: Lessons Learned on and off the Mat follows Travis throughout his jiu-jitsu training from Houston to Dallas to Rio de Janeiro and back again. More than just a book about martial arts, this is a sometimes humorous, sometimes gut-wrenching look at what it takes to succeed--both in martial arts and in business--when you start with only grit, tenacity, and heart.

Along the way, Travis encounters mentors, charlatans, friends, and liars as he struggles to find sure footing in the business world to pursue his love of teaching.

With complete candor and endless wit, Travis leads you on his journey from his humble beginnings teaching out of his dad's garage, pushing himself to learn from his many mistakes, on his way to establishing one of the most successful jiu-jitsu schools in Texas.

Описание:

Why can we not learn a damn thing from the likes of Semco, or Toyota?

Why are today s companies out of balance, structure-wise?

Why are "flat hierarchies" just a continuation of the problem?

Why are all "change-as-a-journey" metaphors wrong?

Why does your company have precisely the culture it deserves?

Why are fixed targets overrated - and how can targets be made relevant?

Does competition within organizations work?

Why do we still find it hard to grasp McGregor's insight from 1960?

Why and how does Very Fast Organizational Transformation (VFOT) work?

Why do companies need neither bosses, nor leaders?

Why is the distinction between management and leadership important?

Why is the so-called "digital transformation" over-hyped?

This exciting little book combines 20 essays by Niels Pflaeging into a true "Best of Beta." It is a collection of progressive, modernist organizational theory and practice based on the BetaCodex mind-set. The contents of this volume range from short vignettes to highly conceptual texts. This book is a treasure trove for anyone who wants to master the art of Beta thinking

Описание:

Embrace a more diverse workforce and achieve unprecedented talent and creativity in your organization

The global marketplace has changed, and companies have found themselves struggling to hire and retain high-performing talent. Winning the Talent Shift: Three Steps to Unleashing the New High Performance Workplace explains how companies can overcome the three main barriers to their success and unlock the potential in today's new workplace.

Winning the Talent Shift envisions a world where companies are fully equipped to exceed the challenges posed by the new global marketplace. Celebrated author, consultant, and executive Berta Aldrich argues if companies want to achieve future success, they must redesign their talent strategy using three important steps proven to increase revenues, engage teams and leaders, and set companies on the path to industry leadership.

Winning the Talent Shift leverages the latest empirical research, experiences from over 1,000 team members and executives, and leadership classes that have spanned the globe to candidly reveal actionable solutions to what is holding most companies back from high performance.

Winning the Talent Shift will show how companies can:

  • Retain their high performers who produce 2-500% more than an average employee but are more likely to leave today's organizations
  • Select and retain the new, high performing leader. According to Gallup, great leadership is the #1 determinant of company success, but less than 25% of today's leaders are considered great
  • Identify and develop women and people of color who can be exceptional leaders. Only 1 in 5 women hold C-suite roles today

Perfect for boards, C-suite, and aspiring male and female high performers, Winning the Talent Shift bravely shows how to recognize barriers, replace them with high performance attributes, and redesign the workplace to create the potential for sustainable growth and industry leadership for years to come.
