Описание: SILENT, EMPTY, AND CRUEL. THIS WAS THE NATURE OF THE WASTELAND. The war between nature and humanity has no winner. Humanity's drive for energy and technology was its downfall. Forgive Us is a thrilling, unpredictable, and wonderfully complex story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. As the story takes off, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life after a set of apocalyptic events caused by human waste and consumption, it shows brutal examples of human violence, hate, and apathy depicting how anyone can be turned into an unfeeling monster, and that dehumanization is the easiest way to allow the mind to kill. Oliver, a lone rider bearing the scars of the old world, flees east into the untamed lands beyond the Rocky Mountains. He spearheads the frontier and carries the burden of civilization into the new world, destined to rebuild from the ruins. London, a veteran of the wasteland, shields his adopted daughter Rose from an unforgiving world. They live in a new age that'll soon draw them into the bitter feuds between fledgling nations. No matter what, London will sacrifice anything for Rose. His struggle will determine who she will become and if she survives in the new world. Simon, a man born and raised on a great space station called the Arcadis Station, faces the onset of revolution. In the shadows, he will fuel the flames of freedom. Reminiscent of The Gunslinger and The Stand, E.T. Gunnarsson's Forgive Us provides an action-packed intro for those wanting to explore adult horror dystopian fiction.

Описание:
With little warning, government security and military bodies around the world lock down their countries and go underground as storms and natural disasters of unprecedented ferocity are unleashed on society, resulting in millions of deaths and widespread destruction. Warnings of the effects of climate change have fallen on deaf ears for too long.
Adrian Charles, spin doctor for the UK Government, with the aid of his new-found love and colleague, Ellen, sets about investigating and reporting on the universal disaster from a top-secret division of the BBC. All the world leaders have disappeared, and billionaire Okar Brag has a surprising agenda. Then there are the strange UFOs observed by space scientist, Rachel, from her space station which, together with many other scientific projects, is sponsored by Okar.
As the mystery unfolds, Rachel, Adrian and Ellen learn about another world as yet undiscovered by the human race as we know it, and as Earth's society teeters on the brink of destruction, help arrives from a surprising source, with good intentions, for the survival of two worlds.
Описание: In their contributions, the authors connect general philosophical reasoning about the foundational role of human dignity for human rights with more concrete demands as to how to deal with basic human needs and to end poverty. These legal and political arguments are based on recent rulings of regional courts and international human rights bodies. They discuss obligations that result from human rights and ask which institutions or corporations are responsible for their realisation.

Описание: The eighteenth century is an important period both in the history of science and in the history of languages. Interest in science, and especially in the useful sciences, exploded and a new, modern approach to scientific discovery and the accumulation of knowledge emerged. It was during this century, too, that ideas on language and language practice began to change. Latin had been more or less the only written language used for scientific purposes, but gradually the vernaculars became established as fully acceptable alternatives for scientific writing. The period is of interest, moreover, from a genre-historical point of view. Encyclopedias, dictionaries and also correspondence played a key role in the spread of scientific ideas. At the time, writing on scientific matters was not as distinct from fiction, poetry or religious texts as it is today, a fact which also gave a creative liberty to individual writers. In this volume, seventeen authors explore, from a variety of angles, the construction of a scientific language and discourse. The chapters are thematically organized into four sections, each contributing to our understanding of this dynamic period in the history of science: their themes are the forming of scientific communities, the emergence of new languages of science, the spread of scientific ideas, and the development of scientific writing. A particular focus is placed on the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778). From the point of view of the natural sciences, Linnaeus is renowned for his principles for defining genera and species of organisms and his creation of a uniform system for naming them. From the standpoint of this volume, however, he is also of interest as an example of a European scientist of the eighteenth century. This volu
