Описание:
Plant Life under Changing Environment presents the latest insights based on analysing and managing the changing environmental conditions of plants in a comprehensive two-volume resource. The book compiles current knowledge on responses and tolerance and management of changing environmental conditions for plant productivity. Further, this is the first such resource to explore emerging strategies that provide useful for managing plant productivity under changing environment.
Volume 1: Responses and Tolerance focuses on the plants, and their ability to respond, adapt and survive in changing climates, while Volume 2: Management and Sustainability addresses options for mitigating those plant responses to ensure maximum health and growth. Researchers and advanced students in environmental sciences, plant ecophysiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, nano-pollution climate change, soil pollution will find this an important foundational resource.
Covers both responses and adaptation of plants to altered environmental states
Illustrates the current impact of climate change on plant productivity as well as mitigation strategies
Includes transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic and ionomic approaches

Описание: Salicylic acid (SA) chemically known as 2-hydroxy benzoic acid, is a ubiquitous endogenous plant growth regulator of phenolic nature, synthesized by plants which acts as a vital endogenous signaling molecule in plant immune response. SA is recognized as a multifaceted element that have crucial roles in various plant physiological processes such as seed germination, seedling growth, photosynthetic activity, nutrient absorption and transport, respiration, nitrogen metabolism, thermogenesis, stomatal closure, flowering, expression of senescence-related genes, inducing antioxidant defense system and resistance to a broad spectrum of pathogens. SA mode of action varies with plant species, plant developmental phase, its mode of application, and its endogenous level in the plant. SA have high metabolic and physiological activity therefore, involved in the activation of plant defense responses against biotic and abiotic stress factors and also involved in the transcriptional reprograming and in controlling transcription and expression of several defense related genes. SA in minor quantities provide plant stress tolerance, but high amounts of SA triggers oxidative stress due to generation of plethora of ROS which ultimately lead to cell death. Under stress conditions, SA interplays with reactive oxygen species (ROS) as crucial signaling molecules for inducing genetically controlled defense-related mechanisms and expression of genes that cause defense against stress. Keeping these points in mind, various aspects like significance of SA for plants, its stress mitigation properties as well as cross-talk with other plant growth regulators have been mentioned. The book has seven chapters which deal with the role of phytohormone salicylic acid in plants, its mechanism of synthesis, signaling & homeostasis in plants, its crosstalk with ROS in mitigation of stress and its interaction with other plant growth regulators. We believe that this book comprises a wealth of knowledge to botanists, agriculturists, students and researchers of colleges and universities.

Описание: This book is for students, professionals, and anyone wishing to learn the basics of biological control. It covers strategies for controlling invertebrates and vertebrates, weeds, and plant pathogens using a diversity of agents, as well as discussing the environmental safety and sustainability of biological control.
Описание: These guidelines outline the process for preparing a National Plan for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Farmers’ Varieties/Landraces, in support of national authorities seeking to develop a systematic approach to the management of these genetic resources. They focus on the common elements required to ensure a systematic, national approach to conservation and sustainable use of farmers’ varieties/landraces.
The cultivation of diverse farmers' varieties/landraces, which tend to be well-adapted and suited to local production systems, confers increased resilience for crop production. Unfortunately, many of these genetic resources have been replaced by modern cultivars in recent decades, resulting in a reduction in the number of varieties grown and/or loss of heterogeneity. Such losses make farming systems less resilient, especially to shocks from abiotic and biotic stresses.
These guidelines will contribute to addressing this continuing loss of diversity. They are a useful tool for development practitioners, researchers, students and policymakers who work on the conservation and sustainable use of these valuable resources.
