In this first book to use China's Belt and Road initiative, previously known as China's New Silk Road, as a point of departure to explain why and how China is about to supersede America with regard to influence in Asia, Sarwar Kashmeri argues that the United States has a narrow window of opportunity to find a way to fit into a world in which the rules of the game are increasingly set by China. U.S. opposition to the Belt and Road Initiative is doomed to failure, so America must find creative ways to engage China strategically, and he warns that the window to do so is closing fast.
The Belt and Road Initiative is China's ambitious project to connect itself to more than 70 countries in Central Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East through new roads, rails, ports, sea lanes, and air links. This cornerstone of Chinese foreign policy under President Xi Jinping is positioning China at the center of over half of world trade, and the loss of American influence and power could well lead to the end of the postwar liberal world order.
Far more than merely an infrastructure investment, the Belt and Road Initiative is a masterful grand strategy to create nothing less than a new world order based on the Chinese model of government and its financial institutions. Yet, as the passing of the baton of world leadership takes place, the United States seems curiously incapable or uninterested in devising a counterstrategy. Even though the United States will no longer have the largest economy in the world, it will still be a powerful and rich country with global alliances.
Описание: This book maintains that the theory of imperialism should incorporate the concept of an "operational code" of political elites to account for agencies` actions.
Описание: This book examines the thought of German international relations scholar Ludwig Dehio and his insight into the dynamics of hegemonic conflicts. It analyzes the various attempts to conquer the European continent from the Hellenistic period to the twentieth century and how these bids for power relate to contemporary American grand strategy.
Описание: This book offers an assessment of the ongoing transformation of hegemonic order and its domestic and international politics. The case studies in this book thus investigate hegemonic politics across regimes (e.g., trade and security), regions (e.g., Asia, Europe, and Global South), and actors (e.g., major powers and smaller states).

Описание: A fresh take on the interwar years which challenges a number of conventional assumptions about the period, including: the naivete of British appeasement; the futility of the League of Nations; the irrationality of German and Japanese expansionism; and the inadvertence of the American entry into war against Japan.
Описание: Disruption has blown the old world apart. The rise of China, Trump's America First policies, division within Europe and successful defiance by authoritarian states are affecting the shape of the emerging new order. Human rights, rule of law, free media and longstanding global institutions all seem set to be weakened. Autocracies are exercising greater control over world affairs. Australia will need to engage heightened levels of diplomacy to forge relations with countries of opposing principles. It will need to be agile in pursuing a realistic foreign policy agenda. China's Grand Strategy and Australia's Future in the New Global Ordercontains answers for how Australia must position itself for this possibly dystopian future.
