Описание: In the world market of power-producing nuclear reactors, there is growing interest in small and medium sized or modular reactors (SMRs). These can be assembled in-factory, transported by ship or train, installed on site and connected to the electricity grid in a short time, significantly reducing the financial burden of the investment. This publication, which is the outcome of a technical meeting, presents a detailed overview of the different concepts of fast SMRs and highlights the technological, economic and safety potential of these reactors and the associated innovative systems. Although it is mainly focused on innovative reactor solutions aimed to increase safety and simplicity of design, the parameters that contribute to the final cost of the plant are also considered.
Описание: The IAEA Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material specify test requirements for Type C packages, which are used for shipments of radioactive material by air. From 1998 to 2006, the IAEA conducted a coordinated research project (CRP) to assess aircraft accident frequency and severity in the context of Type C package test requirements. This publication presents the outcome of the original research conducted under the CRP. The results are expected to lead to increased knowledge of the post-crash survivability of packages containing high activity radioactive material.
Описание: Provides Member States with comprehensive guidance on nuclear power plant operator training and describes the use of simulators in training and qualification programmes for the personnel. Current trends in the use of simulators in training programmes, as well as approaches to maintaining and upgrading simulators, are also presented.
The first comprehensive, empirically grounded, and independent study of the history of the IAEA.
The International Atomic Energy Agency, which sends inspectors around the world to prevent states from secretly developing nuclear bombs, has one of the most important jobs in international security. At the same time, the IAEA is a global hub for the exchange of nuclear science and technology for peaceful purposes. Yet spreading nuclear materials and know-how around the world bears the unwanted risk of helping what the agency aims to halt: the emergence of new nuclear weapon states. In Inspectors for Peace, Elisabeth Roehrlich unravels the IAEA's paradoxical mission of sharing nuclear knowledge and technology while seeking to deter nuclear weapon programs.
Founded in 1957 in an act of unprecedented cooperation between the Cold War superpowers, the agency developed from a small technical bureaucracy in war-torn Vienna to a key organization in the global nuclear order. Roehrlich argues that the IAEA's dual mandate, though apparently contradictory, was pivotal in ensuring the organization's legitimacy, acceptance, and success. For its first decade of existence, the IAEA was primarily a scientific and technical organization; it was not until the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons entered into force in 1970 that the agency took on the far-reaching verification and inspection role for which it is now most widely known. While the Fukushima nuclear disaster and the Iran negotiations made the IAEA's name famous, the organization's remarkable history remains strikingly absent from public knowledge.
Drawing on extensive archival research, including firsthand access to newly opened records at the IAEA Archives in Vienna, Inspectors for Peace provides the first comprehensive, empirically grounded, and independent study on the history of the IAEA. Roehrlich also interviewed leading policymakers and officials, including Hans Blix and Nobel Peace laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, the agency's former heads. This book offers insight not only for students, scholars, and policy experts but for anyone interested in the history of the nuclear age, the Cold War, and the role of international organizations in shaping our world.
Автор: International Atomic Energy Agency Название: Foreign material management in nuclear power plants and projects ISBN: 9201242212 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789201242211 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 2633.00 р. Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии.
Описание: This publication addresses relevant aspects of foreign material management for nuclear power plants, including the roles of all stakeholders at various stages during the lifetime of a nuclear power plant. The report shares knowledge on challenges, solutions and good practices based on operating experience. Providing a set of descriptive processes that integrate safety, performance and economic aspects of foreign material management, the publication supports efforts to eliminate or minimize foreign material related incidents, and to ensure reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants.
Описание: Presents the results of the INPRO collaborative project: Proliferation Resistance and Safeguardability Assessment (PROSA) Tools. The PROSA assessment process has been developed to specifically address the needs of national self-assessors performing an INPRO Nuclear Energy System Assessment of sustainability.
Описание: The objective of a comprehensive clinical audit is to review and evaluate the quality of all components of the practice of radiotherapy at a cancer centre, with a view to quality improvement. These guidelines provide an audit methodology for multidisciplinary expert teams to initiate, perform and report on such audits.

Описание: Since 2011, the German government has been implementing a policy phasing out nuclear power. Over a period of seven years, Bernhard Ludewig photographed the country's atomic landscape and history, keeping a visual record of the buildings and the work performed in them. The images, collected here, create a unique panorama of usually inaccessible spaces. On show are the plants' operations - processes including the opening of the reactor and the loading of Castor containers for transport - and interiors, such as control rooms and cooling towers. The book follows the journey of uranium from enrichment through reprocessing to final storage, and shows research spanning from Otto Hahn's discovery of fission to thorium and breeder reactor prototypes. In total 55 sites are represented, and images of research reactors, training facilities, and Chernobyl's sarcophagus provide a further look behind closed doors. The Nuclear Dream offers an insight into a disappearing world whose rooms and technology often appear sacred. It is a fitting tribute to an era of boundless energy - one whose blue glow captured a generation and proclaimed the start of a new era.
