Описание: This book attempts to bridge the gap between the climate change research and decision-making communities by exploring the impacts of climate change on groundwater from a more applied perspective.
Описание: Climate change is a complex phenomenon with a wide range of impacts on the environment. Biotic and abiotic stress are a result of climate change. Abiotic stress is caused by primary and secondary stresses which are an impediment to plant productivity. Prolonged exposure to these stresses results in altered metabolism and damage to biomolecules. Plants evolve defense mechanisms to withstand these stresses, e.g. synthesis of osmolytes, osmoprotectants, and antioxidants. Stress responsive genes and gene products including expressed proteins are implicated in conferring tolerance to the plant. This volume will provide the reader with a wide spectrum of information, including vital references. It also provides information as to how phytoconstituents, hormones and plant associated microbes help the plants to tolerate the stress. This volume also highlights the use of plant resources for ameliorating soil contaminants such as heavy metals. Dr. Parvaiz is Assistant professor in Botany at A.S. College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. He has completed his post-graduation in Botany in 2000 from Jamia Hamdard New Delhi India. After his Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India in 2007 he joined the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi. He has published more than 20 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 4 book chapters. He has also edited a volume which is in press with Studium Press Pvt. India Ltd., New Delhi, India. Dr. Parvaiz is actively engaged in studying the molecular and physio-biochemical responses of different plants (mulberry, pea, Indian mustard) under environmental stress. Prof. M.N.V. Prasad is a Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Hyderabad, India. He received B.Sc. (1973) and M.Sc. (1975) degrees from Andhra University, India, and the Ph.D. degree (1979) in botany from the University of Lucknow, India. Prasad had published 216 articles in peer reviewed journals and 82 book chapters and conference proceedings in the broad area of environmental botany and heavy metal stress in plants. He is the author, co-author, editor, or co-editor for eight books. He is the recipient of Pitamber Pant national Environment Fellowship of 2007 awarded by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.
Описание: This book highlights the approaches for achieving trans-disciplinary research integration for “semi-arid dryland agriculture systems” under changing climates, while also identifying the elements of a collaborative research agenda that are needed to advance global food security. The book emphasizes climate change being a reality and how drylands are bearing the brunt in diverse ways. The major impact of dryland agriculture is on communities that need to: avoid the short- and long-term impacts of the changing climate; adapt strategies that can minimize these impacts; and be able to mitigate climate change, for which they need climate smart interventions. These interventions are only realized through knowledge and experience sharing among stakeholders from different sectors and backgrounds. It is in this context that the publication was seen as a necessity in order to bring together ideas that will transform lives and build adaptation capacities, thereby providing the much-needed products in communities leading to development
Описание: The anthology Adaptations Now: The Past, Present, and Future of Film and Literature focuses on adaptation studies. It features readings that help students understand ways in which adaptations can move beyond fidelity to the original source material and engages them in a broader, more inclusive mode of thinking about how and why texts change as they become films.Committed to setting aside judgement and evaluation of film adaptations, the text inspires students to question why filmmakers who adapt material will make certain changes to it based on historic, generic, and authorial context. The progression of articles is designed to explore how why something is different as it changes from form to form and to spark analysis rather than simplistic comparisons of “which is better.”Adaptations Now includes insightful articles with references to noteworthy films, as well as original introductions that help to frame the content. With material that balances and serves both its disciplines, the book is suitable for courses in English departments as well as those in communications and media studies.

Описание: This book is a survival manual for corporate life which guides the reader on how best to navigate its pitfalls and avoid being trapped. It fuses three separate but intertwined disciplines of the Animal kingdom, The Guerrilla battlefield and the corporate world to help establish patterns of behavior and the motivations that underpin each action.
All three areas share a common environment; the jungle, where visibility is limited and ambush is the only method of attack by predators. The book blends animal and human psychology and gives safe passage in all its encounters. The book has been meticulously researched with animal behavior being documented and applied to human psychology with additional research on Military techniques and combat psychology on ambush and counter insurgency also applied to human psychology in the attempts to understand and react to conflict in the workplace. This book is designed to assist people at any stage in their career to better understand the motivations that underpin human interactions within the workplace. I have attempted to fuse three separate but closely related environments to highlight patterns and similarities that we can use to better ourselves in our daily interactions in our working lives. As stated above; the corporate world, the animal kingdom and the battlefield all seem like an unlikely amalgamation but you will see that that all environments share common objectives, strategies and interdependencies that underpin everyday survival. This book does not condone war, quite the opposite as you will see it takes more of a defensive position in repelling attacks and seeks to promote the occurrence of collaboration over individual competition which will also become apparent.
It is not a ‘call to arms’ or a promotion of anarchy, not by any stretch of the imagination, as it merely assists the individual in adapting within their environment in order to ensure their survival. Whether you work as an Accountant, IT consultant, Lawyer, Salesperson or Project Manager; the same logic still applies as there is a natural order in all corporate vocations. It matters not whether the majority of your business is carried out via teleconferences, Video conference or in person, the same logic will still apply. Face to face however will normally be the most impactful but you must learn to see the same politics played out through other mediums. The book's main message is that in order to be effective and survive in this world you will need to become an expert in three interrelated areas; You will need to know your environment, know your opponent an above all know yourself. Once you have mastered these three areas, you will enjoy the corporate world like never before.

Описание: This collection combines adaptation and disability studies to examine the ways that popular cultural remakes, reboots, and adaptations navigate representations of mental disability and health. The chapters analyze the ways that narratives of disability are framed not only by worldviews but also by the media which structure and inform them.
Описание: This volume maps out the ways in which the pandemic has impacted (most often disproportionately) societies, the successes and failures of means used to combat the virus, and the considerations and future possibilities - both positive and negative - that lie ahead.
Описание: This Open Access book`s main focus is agriculture and natural resource management, disaster risk reduction, and human resource development in the countries of East and Southeast Asia and Japan. Asia is one of the regions which is the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Описание: Western culture has changed radically in the last fifty years. Death seems less dreadful, sexuality less sacred, and humanity less dignified. Reason has yielded to passion, and science often to political bias. Philosophically and culturally, the West has slowly moved from modernism to postmodernism. It's not surprising that this shift has also radically affected the Christian church. The doctrinal confidence of the past 350 years has given way to greater levels of theological confusion. But while the new era thrives on religious pluralism, a refreshing desire has arisen among many Christians to experience and share the unchanging good news of Jesus more authentically, accurately, and passionately. This book is written to help ordinary people understand the nature of the transition that has occurred, and to inspire them to allow the gospel itself to shape life and church ministry in the midst of this great change. Each chapter ends with important questions for reflection or discussion.
