Описание: The book Sides of the Same Coin is the true story of a one-time social service worker, who lost employment and moved into his mother`s home to help care for her amidst mental deterioration and aging. After a major disagreement between siblings, this once-proud worker, who had serviced clients within all walks of the social service realm, was unceremoniously evicted by people who had relied upon his help countless times in their journeys through adult life. Such assistance was even given to their children more times than imaginable. It was during these times, that this worker was unceremoniously told he was no longer welcome in his mother`s home anymore, and since he assisted clients with their housing needs, he could use his knowledge to find suitable housing for himself. That worker was me. This was the start of a venture I never thought I would ever face. I too was appalled at the little assistance other clients received in the shelter system. This will only become worse due to the pandemic. And for the multitude of those who have fallen behind in rent payments, I believe it will only be a matter of time before the courts evict countless such individuals, and give them no choice but to seek false help from the public shelter systems. Read this book and learn what you never expected to see, face or have to experience in your lifetime. The only suitable name for the New York Shelter System is a living hell.

Описание:
This book treats the visual and the optical aspects of lenticular imaging comprehensively. The theoretical discussion is supplemented by numerous examples and figures which explain and illustrate the underlying principles, to make the book accessible and useful for scholars, practitioners, and graphical artists. However, this book is not a practical guide for making lenticular pictures.
The most striking capability of lenticular pictures is the display of depth. 3D lenticular pictures can be enjoyed without any visual aids, and are viewable from within a comfortably large volume. Within this volume, the picture displays change of perspective according to the viewing angle and shows the object with the correct geometry. With proper design, the changes in perspective can be smooth and continuous. These characteristics create a compelling virtual reality illusion, like the effect of holograms.
The tradeoff between the amount of displayed depth and the visual quality is established and discussed. The overall resolution of the picture determines this compromise. Basic mechanisms affecting the overall resolution are optical aberrations and print characteristics. For digital print, it is suggested that if lenticular sheets are adjusted to fit the printer characteristics, the overall resolution may be significantly improved.
The unique optical properties of lenticules and lenticular sheets are crucial for the understanding of lenticular imaging, and, as such, they receive much attention in the book. The optical mechanism of a lenticular picture is explained using simplified, yet accurate models based on classical optical imaging theory. The more advanced subjects of optical resolution and distortions are treated numerically, using ray-tracing methods. The results of this study are presented here for the first time and are used to explain the visual features of lenticular pictures. They are also important for future research and development.
Numerous other topics are essential for understanding and using lenticular imaging. These topics include calibration of lenticular sheets, content preparation for 3D pictures, and viewing space design. All these issues are treated and presented in detail, including many practical examples.
Electronic display systems underwent rapid evolution in recent fifty years. From early bulky, monochrome, and distorted CRT displays, modern flat-panel displays feature vibrant color and perfect geometry. The resolution, contrast, and brightness reached the highest standards of market demands. Perhaps the last challenge remaining to be conquered by display engineers is the creation of a high-quality electronic 3D display that is viewable without any aids, like a lenticular picture. This challenge attracted much attention, but, despite vast efforts, it is still beyond reach.
One of the most popular approaches to making an electronic 3D display is based on lenticular imaging. A separate chapter is devoted to the discussion of this technology. Although electronic and printed displays differ profoundly, the methodology of printed pictures can be used for the study and analysis of electronic lenticular displays, although with several modifications. The book outlines this application, to allow future study and development of such displays benefit from the research presented in this book.

Описание:
This book presents a unique approach not found in any other text for those looking to improve the clinical results of refractive surgery by gaining a better understanding of corneal biomechanics and the instrumentation related to it. Written by leading experts in the field, this book provides authoritative coverage of the interactions of the cornea and the bioinstrumentation, such as corneal topography, pachymetry, aberrometers, tonometry and optical coherence tomography.
Organized in an easy-to-read manner, Corneal Biomechanics and Refractive Surgery is designed for refractive surgeons and general ophthalmologists alike and describes the biomechanical role of the corneal tissue and how each part is affected in refractive surgery. Additionally, showing what the bioinstrumentation can measure, how models can improve understanding of the interaction between biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, and refractive surgery, and how these models and bioinstrumentation together can improve the refractive results, are also discussed.

Описание: A concise review and comprehensive guide to improving cataract surgery outcomesSignificant advances have been made in refractive surgery in the last decade. Eye surgeons today can leverage many cutting-edge intraocular lens (IOL) technologies such as multifocal, extended depth of field, toric, accommodating, and aspheric. Concurrent innovations including optics, phacoemulsification, superior keratometry and biometry, and posterior cornea evaluation have resulted in improved cataract surgery outcomes. Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts have dramatically improved patient satisfaction following cataract surgery, yet common and rare complications still occur such as dry eye, endophthalmitis, and retinal detachment. Furthermore, only 80% of cataract surgery procedures bring patients to within 0.5 diopters of their needed refraction.Optimizing Suboptimal Results Following Cataract Surgery: Refractive and Non-Refractive Management presents the latest techniques for achieving optimal results and overcoming complications in cataract surgery. Internationally renowned ophthalmic surgery pioneers Priya Narang and William Trattler have created an unparalleled guide to overcoming complex cases and residual refractive errors. The book starts with six chapters on suboptimal causes and considerations, followed by dedicated sections covering refractive and non-refractive enhancements. The fourth section features chapters on keratoconus, cystoid macular edema, endophthalmitis, toxic anterior segment syndrome, and vitritis, as well as intraoperative aberrometry, futuristic approaches and advancements, and telescopic IOLs.Key HighlightsRefractive enhancement procedures including corneal-based procedures such as astigmatic keratotomy, LASIK, PRK, and SMILE; IOL exchange; piggyback IOL; toric IOL; and premium IOLs and associated problemsNonrefractive enhancement procedures including dysphotopsias and surgical management, bullous keratopathy and endothelial keratoplasty, complex IOL issues such as malpositioned IOL and capsular bag, and posterior capsular rupture and IOL lens implantationPractical tips and steps to prevent and manage undesired outcomes30 surgical videos posted online highlight a diverse array of complex cases and technical advances to help prevent suboptimal resultsOphthalmologists, ophthalmology residents, fellows, and subspecialists will greatly benefit from the significant pearls and knowledge presented in this indispensable cataract surgery resource. This book includes complimentary access to a digital copy on https://medone.thieme.com.
