Описание: Published to accompany the major exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, this book is destined to become a must-have work of reference for all fashion lovers. The couturiere Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) was a key figure in Paris fashion between the two World Wars. Following in the footsteps of her mentor Paul Poiret, she designed her first knitwear collection in January 1927.

Decorated with trompe-loeil motifs in black and white, her sweaters were an immediate success in both France and the USA. In 1935, the Maison Schiaparelli opened in the Place Vendome in Paris, selling collections designed for sports, city and evening wear. Like her arch-rival Gabrielle Chanel, Schiaparelli also worked closely with artists, including Man Ray, Jean Cocteau and Salvador Dali, with whom she created a lobster dress.

Taking a cue from Surrealism, her creations were hugely imaginative and made use of innovative new materials. The Schiap style continued to develop through the 1930s. Her most famous collections had themes including the circus (summer 1938) and astrology (winter 1938-39).

In 1937, Schiaparelli launched the fragrance Shocking, named after shocking pink, which had become her signature colour. Alongside vintage photographs, sketches and contemporary features from Harpers Bazaar and Vogue, this volume presents specially photographed masterpieces from the collection of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. All 120 garments and accessories from the Schiaparelli archive are illustrated, along with a selection of her drawings dating from 1933 to 1953.

Описание: A journey through dreamlike landscapes, bizarre buildings, and whimsical interiors floating between reality and fantasy. Oscar Wilde claimed that "progress is the realization of utopia." Dreamscapes illustrates utopian visions and invites the reader into otherworldly scenes that manifest visions of idealised worlds, offering a path toward a better future. The showcased pieces blur the lines between practical applications for architecture and design, abstract artistic expressions, and expand the possibilities of architecture, interior, and set design. The book presents the work of leading creatives from across the globe, exploring the infinite ways to visualize landscapes and the built environment. With their roots in spatial design, their ideas present a new creative current defined by the fusion of digital techniques such as computer rendering and 3D art, and an aesthetic that moves between fantasy and reality. WHAT TO EXPECT - The first illustrated book to present the work of the artists and creatives at the forefront of this aesthetic, which gained momentum as a social media phenomenon. - An insightful and pioneering look at the world of digital art, which will undoubtedly define the future of creativity. - An inspiring compilation that will serve as a reference for both artists and professionals in the fields of architecture and design.

Описание: Through a highly original and detailed analysis of the memoirs, interviews and other life writings of Poiret, Dior and Schiaparelli, this book explores changing notions of femininity in the early decades of the twentieth century, when the democratization of fashion began. Examining the idea of modernity, eternity and the ephemeral in the writings of these haute couturiers, the book reflects on fashion's ambivalent approach to women, which both celebrated and vilified them, presenting them as both ultra modern style leaders and irrational creatures stuck in the past. This fascinating text is key reading for scholars and students of fashion, gender studies, cultural studies and history.

LOOKING AT LIFE FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE.

THIS IS A BRILLIANT BOOK. The stories would very much have stood up as a collection of work in their own right but the extra and imaginative addition of the idea that there is a book that reads people adds to the brilliance. Brian Page, editor Mensa Magazine.

50 surprising and varied short stories to entertain and make you wonder...

A few very short extracts...

BREAKING NEWS

I promise you, dear reader, I did not do it on purpose, I am unable to move, but as he got near Lucy, his foot slipped on my shiny and glossy cover as I laid on the floor. As he fell, his head smashed against the coffee table and he lost consciousness. His blood flowed onto the floor. Lucy froze as she looked at the man she had once loved, dying. Rather than call for an ambulance she made herself some strong, sweet tea and sipped it slowly. He was impotent now, unable to carry out any threats. She looked at the reddening of the tweed his jacket was tailored from and she recalled how he had persuaded her father to pay for clothes that he would wear to match the beauty and radiance of his daughter.

DIRTY BOOK

I was one of the few publications that Malcomb had read that did not have pictures of naked women in them...

I was glad when a new bed was bought and I was removed from the premises and given a home on the bookshelf of one of the actresses who had become too old to participate and earned a small living by scrubbing, dusting and washing the place after the films were shot. She found me with the debris from the old bed, took me away and I was able to comfort her in the only way I could; as a book for her to read.

CONFESSIONAL

He had me with him sometimes to fill the gaps between the sinners. His story is somewhat disturbing. There are lots of books in the single book, the Bible. I was an outsider.

When Mary Martin arrived, she was known to the priest, not only from her voice but from seeing her in church. She was young, raven haired, small in stature but big in chest. Alistair looked forward to her visits and when she appeared, he would take his tape recorder out and place it next to the screen where Mary would not see it.

'Oh, Father, I have sinned.' She said nervously.

'And the nature of your sin is what?'

'I am responsible for the deaths of three men this week.'

SWEATING IT OUT

He had undressed with reserve earlier, as had the other participants and put his clothes into a neat pile.

Looking around in the dim light he established that men and women made equal numbers if he included himself. They shared a range of ages.

And so, his journey began with a visit to a shamanic sweat lodge and there, unwittingly, his soul seemed to have become stuck in a place where his nightmares came to him for resolution.

He had reviewed the women for any that might be of interest to his libido, his sole motive for most things he did. One in particular caught his eye but she seemed detached and he had no apparent appeal for her. He thought that he would work on her later in the evening.

Please enjoy the book.

REVIEW Brian Page, editor of Mensa Magazine

Описание: Zbigniew Kotowicz gives us the first English language, in-depth presentation of the entire spectrum of Bachelard`s work: epistemology, poetic imagination and temporality. And he explores an old philosophical tradition that Bachelard`s thought opens up atomism a doctrine that has been almost forgotten and is much misunderstood.
