Описание: The F-15C and F-15E have formed the backbone of US and coalition operations in the Middle East for over a decade, enforcing the will of the international community through direct military action and functioning as a military presence to underpin diplomatic efforts. Operations Southern Watch and Northern Watch provided the basis for these actions and are both under-publicised success stories that saw each plane engaged in important operations. This book examines the central role that these two aircraft have had in a range of operations, culminating in their use by the USAF in Operation Iraqi Freedom, launched in March 2003.
Описание: After the attacks on 11 September 2001, Apache units made significant contributions to the Coalition campaign against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. Functioning as the 'killer' part of US Army Hunter-killer teams, Apaches sought out and brought overwhelming firepower to bear on Taliban and al-Qaeda forces, as well as providing direct support to Coalition troops on the ground. Apaches spearheaded the advance of the 3rd infantry and the 101st airborne divisions into Iraq, engaging in some of the heaviest fighting along the western axis of advance.
Weather and enemy fire took a heavy toll on Apaches operating in Western Iraq, but the resilience and flexibility of the Apache was central to the success of this campaign.
It Takes More than a Network presents a structured investigation of the Iraqi insurgency's capacity for and conduct of organizational adaptation. In particular, it answers the question of why the Iraqi insurgency was seemingly so successful between 2003 and late 2006 and yet nearly totally collapsed by 2008. The book's main argument is that the Iraqi insurgency failed to achieve longer-term organizational goals because many of its organizational strengths were also its organizational weaknesses: these characteristics abetted and then corrupted the Iraqi insurgency's ability to adapt. The book further compares the organizational adaptation of the Iraqi insurgency with the organizational adaptation of the Afghan insurgency. This is done to refine the findings of the Iraq case and to present a more robust analysis of the adaptive cycles of two large and diverse covert networked insurgencies. The book finds that the Afghan insurgency, although still ongoing, has adapted more successfully than the Iraqi insurgency because it has been better able to leverage the strengths and counter the weaknesses of its chosen organizational form.

Описание: Looks at a number of authors who started writing in Iraq in or around the 1950s to explore a pivotal moment in Iraqi novel writing. This monograph on Iraqi fiction focuses on Gha`ib Tu`ma Farman (1927-1990), Mahdi Isa al-Saqr (1927-2006) and Fu`ad al-Takarli (1927-2008), and a selection of works by Dhu al-Nun Ayyub and Abd al-Malik Nuri.
The book aims to answer the central question: "What went wrong, more precisely, in the decision chain during the reconstruction of Iraq’s military institution?" The holistic character of the approach is ensured through a series of background analyses.
Although most researches concluded already that Iraq’s reconstruction was a failure, answering the question implied the design of an appropriate research method and data collection/analysis, in order to frame particular characteristics of the reconstruction process. Despite the complexity of the topic and theoretical Security Sector Reform principles, which can hardly be applied to Iraq’s case, the thesis emphasizes on actors involved, their actions and connections between events, as part of a unique process.

Описание: During the Iraq War, thousands of young Baghdadis worked as interpreters for US troops, becoming the front line of the so-called War on Terror. Deployed by the military as linguistic as well as cultural interpreters—translating the ""human terrain"" of Iraq—members of this network urgently honed identification strategies amid suspicion from US forces, fellow Iraqis, and, not least of all, one another. In Interpreters of Occupation, Campbell traces the experiences of twelve individuals from their young adulthood as members of the Ba’thist generation, to their work as interpreters, through their navigation of the US immigration pipeline, and finally to their resettlement in the United States. Throughout, Campbell considers how these men and women grappled with issues of belonging and betrayal, both on the battlefield in Iraq and in the US-based diaspora. A nuanced and richly detailed ethnography, Interpreters of Occupation gives voice to a generation of US allies through their diverse and vividly rendered life histories. In the face of what some considered a national betrayal in Iraq and their experiences of otherness within the United States, interpreters negotiate what it means to belong to a diasporic community in flux.
