Описание: Part of a series on selected topics in Nanoscale Science and Technology based on lectures given at the well-known INFN schools of the same name, this collection includes a tutorial lecture by Vincenzo Balzani and collaborators, which introduces the reader to the topic of molecular devices and machines, seen as a journey into the nano world.
Photonics and electronics are endlessly converging into a single technology by exploiting the possibilities created by nanostructuring of materials and devices. It is expected that next-generation optoelectronic devices will show great improvements in terms of performance, flexibility, and energy consumption: the main limits of nanoelectronics will be overcome by using a photonics approach, while nanophotonics will become a mature technology, thanks to miniaturization strategies developed in microelectronics.
Mastering such a complex subject requires a multidisciplinary approach and a solid knowledge of several topics. This book gives a broad overview of recent advances in several topical aspects of nanophotonics and nanoelectronics, keeping an eye on real applications of such technologies, and focuses on the possibilities created by advanced photon management strategies in optoelectronic devices.
Starting from pure photonic systems, the book provides several examples in which the interaction between photonics and electronics is exploited to achieve faster, compact, and more efficient devices. A large number of figures and tables also support each chapter. This book constitutes a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and professionals working on the development of optoelectronics.

Nanotechnology has been incorporated into a wide range of garments to improve the durability of clothing / apparel and create new properties for a special end-used application. It also incorporates wearable electronics into clothing to make it smarter. Smart nano-textiles refers to the uses and integration of smart nanocoatings, nanosensors and nanodevices in multifunctional textiles, since they are both low cost and have low power consumption. Various organic and inorganic nanomaterials can be used in garments to improve their properties and create new properties such as anti-bacterial, superhydrophobic, auto-cleaning, self-cleaning, stain repellent, wrinkle-free, static eliminating, fire resistant and electrically conductive properties.
This book focuses on the fundamental concepts and approaches for the preparation of smart nanotextiles, their properties, and their applications in multifarious industries, including smart garments, biomedicine, construction/building materials, energy conversion/storage, automotive/aerospace industries and agriculture.
Описание: This thesis focuses on the transport and magneto-transport properties of graphene p-n-p junctions, such as the pronounced quantum Hall effect, a well-defined plateau–plateau transition point, and scaling behavior. In addition, it demonstrates persistent photoconductivity (PPC) in the monolayer MoS2 devices, an effect that can be attributed to random localized potential fluctuations in the devices. Further, it studies scaling behavior at zeroth Landau level and high performance of fractional values of quantum Hall plateaus in these graphene p-n-p devices. Moreover, it demonstrates a unique and efficient means of controlling the PPC effect in monolayer MoS2. This PPC effect may offer novel functionalities for MoS2-based optoelectronic applications in the future.

Semiconductor Nanodevices: Physics, Technology and Applications explores recent advances in the field. The behaviour of these devices is controlled by regions of nanoscale dimensions which typically determine the local density of electronic states and lead to the observation of a range of quantum effects with significant potential for exploitation.
The book opens with an introduction describing the development of this research field over the past few decades which contrasts quantum-controlled devices to conventional nanoscale electronic devices where an emphasis has often been placed on minimising quantum effects.
This introduction is followed by seven chapters describing electrical nanodevices and five chapters describing opto-electronic nanodevices; individual chapters review important recent advances.
These chapters include specific fabrication details for the structures and devices described as well as a discussion of the physics made accessible. It is an important reference source for physicists, materials scientists and engineers who want to learn more about how semiconductor-based nanodevices are being developed for both science and potential industrial applications.
The section on electrical devices includes chapters describing the study of electron correlation effects using transport in quantum point contacts and tunnelling between one-dimensional wires; the high-frequency pumping of single electrons; thermal effects in quantum dots; the use of silicon quantum dot devices for qubits and quantum computing; transport in topological insulator nanoribbons and a comprehensive discussion of noise in electrical nanodevices.
The optical device section describes the use of self-assembled III-V semiconductor nanostructures embedded in devices for a range of applications, including quantum dots for single and entangled photon sources, quantum dots and nanowires in lasers and quantum dots in solar cells.
Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator provides an in-depth presentation of the fundamental and pragmatic concepts of this increasingly important technology.
There are two main technologies in the marketplace of advanced CMOS circuits: FinFETs and fully depleted silicon-on-insulators (FD-SOI). The latter is unchallenged in the field of low-power, high-frequency, and Internet-of-Things (IOT) circuits. The topic is very timely at research and development levels. Compared to existing books on SOI materials and devices, this book covers exhaustively the FD-SOI domain.
Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator is based on the expertise of one of the most eminent individuals in the community, Dr. Sorin Cristoloveanu, an IEEE Andrew Grove 2017 award recipient For contributions to silicon-on-insulator technology and thin body devices. In the book, he shares key insights on the technological aspects, operation mechanisms, characterization techniques, and most promising emerging applications.
Early praise for Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator It is an excellent written guide for everyone who would like to study SOI deeply, specially focusing on FD-SOI. --Dr. Katsu Izumi, Formerly at NTT Laboratories and then at Osaka Prefecture University, Japan
FDSOI technology is poised to catch an increasingly large portion of the semiconductor market. This book fits perfectly in this new paradigm [...] It covers many SOI topics which have never been described in a book before. --Professor Jean-Pierre Colinge, Formerly at TSMC and then at CEA-LETI, Grenoble, France
This book, written by one of the true experts and pioneers in the silicon-on-insulator field, is extremely timely because of the growing footprint of FD-SOI in modern silicon technology, especially in IoT applications. Written in a delightfully informal style yet comprehensive in its coverage, the book describes both the device physics underpinning FD-SOI technology and the cutting-edge, perhaps even futuristic devices enabled by it. --Professor Alexander Zaslavsky, Brown University, USA
A superbly written book on SOI technology by a master in the field. --Professor Yuan Taur, University of California, San Diego, USA
The author is a world-top researcher of SOI device/process technology. This book is his masterpiece and important for the FD-SOI archive. The reader will learn much from the book. --Professor Hiroshi Iwai, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan
From the author It is during our global war against the terrifying coalition of corona and insidious computer viruses that this book has been put together. Continuous enlightenment from FD-SOI helped me cross this black and gray period. I shared a lot of myself in this book. The rule of the game was to keep the text light despite the heavy technical content. There are even tentative FD-SOI hieroglyphs on the front cover, composed of curves discussed in the book.
