Описание: A practical tool for implementing the sustainable food value chain framework with a focus on small-scale livestock producers, targeting an audience of project design teams and policymakers.
Описание: The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets 2020 (SOCO 2020) aims to discuss policies and mechanisms that promote sustainable outcomes – economic, social and environmental – in agricultural and food markets, both global and domestic. The analysis is organized along the trends and challenges that lie at the heart of global discussions on trade and development. These include the evolution of trade and markets; the emergence of global value chains in food and agriculture; the extent to which smallholder farmers in developing countries participate in value chains and markets; and the transformative impacts of digital technology on markets. Along these themes, SOCO 2020 discusses policies and institutions that can promote inclusive economic growth and also harness markets to contribute towards the realization of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

Описание: These guidelines propose a harmonized international approach to assessing the environmental performance of feed additives in livestock supply chains, taking into consideration their impact all along the supply chain for large ruminants, pigs and poultry.
Many categories of feed additives exist worldwide. Manufactured by a wide range of sectors, feed additives target different livestock species to pursue different objectives, ranging from improving nutrition and animal health to curbing emissions and preventing pollution. Research is active in this field and a growing number of additives are being developed and marketed.
Feed additives carry both environmental burdens linked to their production and environmental benefits linked to their usage, yet environmental assessments have often failed to address this complexity. These guidelines strive for a more coherent inclusion of feed additives in environmental assessments of livestock production, in order to increase the understanding of their environmental impact and reveal possible synergies or trade-offs with other environmental criteria.
Описание: These guidelines develop a consensual, harmonized, science-based approach to the use of water in livestock production, including the assessment of water flows. The guidelines propose scientific, yet practical, approaches that build on existing or developing methodologies. They also help identify areas where ambiguity or differences exist.
Описание: The Right to Food Guidelines provide practical guidance on ways to implement the right to adequate food in a wide range of policy and programmes areas through a human rights-based approach.
Since the adoption of the Right to Food Guidelines, FAO and its partners have produced a wealth of tools, strengthened capacity, and facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogues worldwide. However, the goal of realizing the right to food of everyone has not been accomplished yet. Currently, over 820 million people are suffering from chronic hunger.
This fifteen-Year Retrospective on the Right to Food Guidelines helps us look back and understand what has worked and why, where the bottlenecks lie, and how governments and their partners can be most effective in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
Описание: These guidelines outline the process for preparing a National Plan for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Farmers’ Varieties/Landraces, in support of national authorities seeking to develop a systematic approach to the management of these genetic resources. They focus on the common elements required to ensure a systematic, national approach to conservation and sustainable use of farmers’ varieties/landraces.
The cultivation of diverse farmers' varieties/landraces, which tend to be well-adapted and suited to local production systems, confers increased resilience for crop production. Unfortunately, many of these genetic resources have been replaced by modern cultivars in recent decades, resulting in a reduction in the number of varieties grown and/or loss of heterogeneity. Such losses make farming systems less resilient, especially to shocks from abiotic and biotic stresses.
These guidelines will contribute to addressing this continuing loss of diversity. They are a useful tool for development practitioners, researchers, students and policymakers who work on the conservation and sustainable use of these valuable resources.
Описание: Criteria and indicators constitute an increasingly common policy tool to implement sustainable forest management (SFM) and to define clear priorities and targets. These guidelines provide specific concepts, definitions, tools and reference materials to guide the development process of national criteria and indicator sets for SFM.

Описание: Value chains are a vital part of how our world operates, yet we are only beginning to understand how to make them sustainable. This volume addresses the crux of that challenge by presenting a broad array of options for understanding and managing the complexity of sustainability initiatives that affect, and are also influenced by value chains. Its chapters present diverse perspectives on both political and private sector governance, including governmental regulations and private standards, and embrace the emergent and critical value of innovative approaches to monitoring and evaluating progress. Finally, the volume offers a review of concrete examples for transformation and transition towards more sustainable value chains in selected sectors, including, amongst others, agriculture, forestry, mining, and tourism.
