Описание: Highlighting effective, analytical functions that have been found useful for the comparison of alternative management techniques to maximize water and nutrient resources, this reference describes the application of viable mathematical models in data analysis to increase crop growth and yields. Featuring solutions to various differential equations, the book covers the characteristics of the functions related to the phenomenological growth model. Including more than 1300 literature citations, display equations, tables, and figures and outlining an approach to mathematical crop modeling, Mathematical Models of Crop Growth and Yield will prove an invaluable resource.
Описание: Focusinf on Koga in Ethiopia, this technical report describes the process of developing, designing, piloting and evaluating potential solutions to increase water productivity sustainably, which is the third objective of component 4 of the project on WaPOR (using Remote Sensing in support of solutions to reduce agricultural water productivity gaps).
Описание: Focuses on ways to improve crop productivity and sustainability through water and salinity management and defines approaches and technologies to assess and monitor soil water content and salinity. The test results of a new landscape soil moisture measuring tool (cosmic ray neutron sensor) for area-wide soil water measurements are also presented.
Описание: Noting that a multitude of academic publications have proven the robustness of the water-driven approach adopted by AquaCrop, this study discusses the challenges that remain, including the need for more rigorous testing.
Water Productivity and Food Security: Global Trends and Regional Patterns, Volume Three reviews the need for water productivity improvements in agriculture, addressing three distinct questions pertaining to agricultural water productivity improvement in developing countries, including what are the regions where water is a limiting factor for raising agricultural outputs and water productivity improvements, what are the technological measures in irrigation that can raise agricultural water productivity and result in water saving at various scales, and what opportunities exist in the developing economies of South Asia and Africa for raising water productivity and improving water economy at basin scale.
This book provides a framework to characterize river basins based on water availability, water supplies, water uses and water demands to ascertain the need and measures available for improving crop water productivity that would be effective at various scales, i.e., plant-level, plot-level, irrigation system level and basin level. This is an essential reference for anyone interested in water management and agriculture.
Presents clear explanations of the physical and technical measures that can be adopted to improve productivity of water in agricultural production under different basin conditions
Offers physical strategies for improving water productivity in agriculture in different agroecological regions, along with the institutional and policy measures that affect them
Includes methodologies for assessing the food security challenges of individual nations using empirical analysis and global datasets

Описание: This work examines the "in vitro" methods which relate to actual biological availability of the vitamin contents of foods. It describes recent developments, as well as existing analytical techniques. The information on the assays is aimed at professionals in the food industry in the US.
Описание: Since the 1960s, it has been known that poor water and sanitation causes diarrhea, which consequently compromises child growth and leads to undernutrition. Ample evidence shows that poor water and sanitation causes diarrhea, but there is a growing body of knowledge discussing the magnitude of the impact of diarrhea on undernutrition. A recent hypothesis by Humphrey (2009), for example, states that the predominant impact of contaminated water and poor sanitation on undernutrition is via tropical/environmental enteropathy (triggered by exposure to fecal matter) rather than mediated by diarrhea. This new hypothesis has generated much debate, especially in the South Asia region, on the contribution of water and sanitation to the South Asian Nutrition Enigma. The region is characterized by unusually high rates of child undernutrition relative to its income level, as well as a slow reduction in undernutrition. Practitioners have struggled to decipher the reasons behind this 'anomaly.' This report provides a systematic review of the evidence to date, both published and grey literature, on the relationship between water and sanitation and nutrition. We also survey the potential impact of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) on undernutrition. This is the first report that undertakes a thorough review and discussion of WASH and nutrition in Bangladesh. The report is meant to serve two purposes. First, it synthesizes the results/evidence evolving on the pathway of WASH and undernutrition for use by practitioners working in the nutrition and water and sanitation sectors to stimulate technical discussions and effective collaboration among stakeholders. Second, this report serves as an advocacy tool, primarily for policy makers, to assist them in formulating a multisectoral approach to tackling the undernutrition problem.
