Описание: SGG 2 offers a commented critical edition of the preserved textual fragments from the Homeric studies of the Greek scholar-poet Antimachus of Colophon (floruit ca. 400 bce). If as an epic and elegiac poet Antimachus was a forerunner of the Alexandrian docta poesis, he was also an editor and scholar of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, producing an ekdosis of both poems (the first among the so-called kat’andra ‘editions’) and a syngramma, i.e. monograph, in which he dealt with biographical, exegetical and glossographical issues.
Описание: The ancient Greek grammarians and erudites whose textual fragments are critically edited and commented on here for the first time appear to have dealt with different areas of scholarship, ranging from grammar to lexicography, literary criticism and biography, musicology. The authors and topics examined by these ancient investigations include Homer, Sappho, Alcaeus, the archaic dithyramb, Antimachus of Colophon, Theopompus of Chius, Menander, some peculiarities of the Laconian dialect, ancient musical theories and relevant discussions. In short, this volume offers a manifold gallery of intellectual profiles and critical problems, which are well represented in the rich range of themes posed by the remnants of ancient Greek scholarship.
Автор: Ivan Matijasic Название: Supplementum Grammaticum Graecum 4: Timachidas Rhodius ISBN: 9004441735 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789004441736 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 32675.00 р. Наличие на складе: Поставка под заказ.
Описание: We learn from ancient sources that the grammarian Timachidas of Lindos (Rhodes; 2nd/1st century BCE) dealt with linguistic issues (glossai, Dinner Party) and commented on poetic works of Classical (Euripides’ Medea, Aristophanes’ Frogs) and early Hellenistic period (Menander’s Kolax, Eratosthenes’ Hermes). The attractive hypothesis of identifying him with the Timachidas who compiled the Lindian Chronicle (99 BCE) is deeply discussed — and cautiously dismissed — by Ivan Matijasic in this volume, in the framework of his introduction to, critical edition and English translation of, and commentary on the above-mentioned grammatical fragments, with extensive bibliography and indexes.
Описание: SGG 3 explores intriguing and challenging fields of ancient Greek philology in its early stages. It deals with the remnants of scholarship performed by anonymous pre-Aristarchean interpreters of Homeric glosses, collectively mentioned in ancient sources as the Glossographers (?? ????????????; introductory essay, critical edition, Italian translation and commentary by Emanuele Dettori), as well as with the fragments of the pioneering textual examination (diorthosis) conducted by the scholar poet Lycophron of Chalcis on the plays of Attic comedy in the early 3rd century BC Alexandria (introduction, critical edition, Italian translation and commentary by Andrea Pellettieri).
