TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS is a series of books that open new perspectives in our understanding of language. The series publishes state-of-the-art work on core areas of linguistics across theoretical frameworks, as well as studies that provide new insights by approaching language from an interdisciplinary perspective.
TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS considers itself a forum for cutting-edge research based on solid empirical data on language in its various manifestations, including sign languages. It regards linguistic variation in its synchronic and diachronic dimensions as well as in its social contexts as important sources of insight for a better understanding of the design of linguistic systems and the ecology and evolution of language.
TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS publishes monographs and outstanding dissertations as well as edited volumes, which provide the opportunity to address controversial topics from different empirical and theoretical viewpoints. High quality standards are ensured through anonymous reviewing.

Описание:
Pediatric Food Preferences and Eating Behaviors reviews the body of scientific work that investigates why children eat the way they do, and whether and how those eating behaviors are modifiable. Before delving into the first of its three sections, Pediatric Behavioral Nutrition presents an introduction and the historical perspective of the topic. The first section, food acceptance, addresses the development of flavor preferences, the role of repeated exposure and other types of learning, the effects of modeling eating behavior, as well as, picky eating, food neophobia, and food selectivity. Section two, appetite, addresses appetite regulation and its plasticity in early development, the role of reward pathways in appetitive drive and regulation, genetic contributions to eating behaviors, food environmental influences on appetite regulation, and parenting influences on appetite and weight. Section three, cognitive aspects of eating behavior, addresses the neurocognitive underpinnings of children's eating, the development of loss of control eating, and food cognitions and nutrition knowledge. Each chapter concludes with practical implications for practice, and the book concludes with recommended next steps.
Delivers an up-to-date synthesis of the research evidence addressing the development of children's eating behaviors from birth to age 18 years, biological and environmental predictors of the development of these behaviors, and evidence for how these behaviors may be modifiable in the service of improving children's dietary intake and health outcomes
Provides an in-depth synthesis of the basic eating behaviors that contribute to consumption patterns
Translates the complex and sometimes conflicting research in this area to clinical and public health practice, so that this large body of scientific work can be applied
Concludes each chapter with practical implications for practice
Presents the limits of current knowledge and the next steps in scientific inquiry

Описание: Dismantling Public Policy seeks to develop a comparative approach to understanding policy dismantling. It looks at the cutting, reduction, diminution or complete removal of existing policies.
Other-regarding preferences, hence appreciation of others’ welfare, are mainly culturally transmitted, whereby most of the development takes place in the sensitive period of childhood and adolescence. This work analyzes the development as well as possible influencing factors of other-regarding preferences during this period. To test the hypotheses derived from developmental and socialization aspects, the author conducts a survey measuring altruistic and cooperative preferences for German pupils. Results show that over the age span studied altruism and cooperation are increasingly important. Individual differences show none or only small relationship with measures of other-regarding preferences while differences in school environments are similarly important to age differences.

Описание: This methodologically sound psychometric tool has been handed to Ecuadorian psychologists and teachers as a guide in the career counselling field. The tool will have a significant impact on the democratization of youth, assisting them to make well-targeted choices when planning their education and career. The authors' study may be viewed as pioneering work, due to its consideration of the significant cultural and geographic regional differentiation among graduates from the Pacific coast, the Andes, the Amazon rainforest and the Galapagos Islands. Reaching to the classics of literature on the subject, the authors have performed a momentous work, which is the construction of a psychometric tool that will be helpful in diagnosing career interests in the entire population of Ecuadorian youth. Worth additional acknowledgement are the high reliability indicators of the career interests questionnaire conducted on a representative and large study group, as well as the defined psychometric accuracy of the scale. This publication makes a civilizational quantum leap in the education of Ecuadorian youth, guaranteeing them a career choice that corresponds to their interests and ambitions. This pioneering publication on the Polish and world markets confirms the fact that Polish psychologists have the capability to "export" the psychometric school of thought to the Latin American region, with all of the scientific, social and humanitarian consequences involved.

Описание: Models of democratic decision-making tend to assume that voters have preferences and that candidates adjust their platforms to conform with those preferences; however, the direction of causation is largely the opposite. Political elites offer policy platforms to voters, and voters adopt those policies - they follow their leaders. Following Their Leaders argues that policies are designed by the elite and the electorate has little say. Preferences for public policy tend to be anchored in a political identity associated with a candidate, party, or ideology; voters' preferences on most issues are derived from their anchor preferences. Holcombe argues that because citizens adopt the policies offered by the elite, democratic institutions are ineffective constraints on the exercise of political power. This volume explores political institutions that help control the elite who exercise political power and discusses the implications political preferences have on democracies.
