Описание:
In Ontological Terror Calvin L. Warren intervenes in Afro-pessimism, Heideggerian metaphysics, and black humanist philosophy by positing that the "Negro question" is intimately imbricated with questions of Being. Warren uses the figure of the antebellum free black as a philosophical paradigm for thinking through the tensions between blackness and Being. He illustrates how blacks embody a metaphysical nothing. This nothingness serves as a destabilizing presence and force as well as that which whiteness defines itself against. Thus, the function of blackness as giving form to nothing presents a terrifying problem for whites: they need blacks to affirm their existence, even as they despise the nothingness they represent. By pointing out how all humanism is based on investing blackness with nonbeing—a logic which reproduces antiblack violence and precludes any realization of equality, justice, and recognition for blacks—Warren urges the removal of the human from its metaphysical pedestal and the exploration of ways of existing that are not predicated on a grounding in being.
Описание: In the decade after the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board decision, it became clear to students, parents, and community members alike that court cases were insufficient in the pursuit of educational justice. This book explores what made it difficult for educational equality to become obtainable after the Brown decision.
Christians are not supposed to be boring, religious, robots who attend a facility every week to be fed. We are called to be in the likeness of Jesus, carrying His authority and power into the world for all to see. Why is it that so many of us are living a watered-down version of Christianity that doesn't have the power Jesus promised?
Using short, challenging chapters followed by collections of scripture solely from the New Testament, A Line in the Sand lays out the bare truth of the gospel about issues such as faith, holiness and whether there is a hell. Jesus does not call us to live according to the world, but His standard seems crazy in the midst of culture's ideologies and customs. This book contrasts the truth of Jesus with the confusion of our culture as never before. Your beliefs and opinions will come into question as scripture comes alive.
Jesus drew a line in the sand and we must do the same. This book will challenge your concept of truth, authority and what it means to be a radical disciple of Jesus Christ.

The book provides a comparison of contemporary art by analyzing female aesthetic subjectivity within a global context. The starting point is a comparison between the work of Tracey Karima Emin and He Chengyao. Kwan Kiu Leung demonstrates why their work constitutes not only the self, but they practice an ontological identification relationship between subjectivity and artwork that exhibits three aspects of their subjectivity: performativity, visibility, and univocity. Furthermore, it reveals an ontological and ethical self within their naked self-portraits.

Описание: In this annotated diary, Sallie McNeill chronicles thoughts, observations, and details of her daily life during the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. This remarkably well-preserved document tells McNeill's story from her days as a student in the female department of Baylor College at Independence until her death in 1867. McNeill's story—common to the era and place and still intensely personal—lets readers glimpse the numbing expectations of a young woman's proper behavior, moral referencing of those living under the influence of the second Great Awakening, intellectual questions posed by the education of the day, and the lifestyle of the planter class at the margins of its geographical reach.
