Описание: What do you think memories are? Are they real physical things, like little marbles rolling around in your head? Are they energy systems? How can we define them? Memories have a secret life that you will never know. Memories are profoundly influential in determining who you are. Yet, no one knows where memories are stored. In this life-changing book, author Michael Faff takes readers on a fascinating exploration of memories as he examines what they are, how they influence your life, and how you can change them. What is one of the secrets of memories? Are you ready for a shock before even reading the first page? Well, memories are not real; thats it. This may have caught you off guard because we are programmed to believe memories are real things and depict real past events. Memories are not what you think they are. We relate remembering to knowledge, and the more you can remember, the more important and intelligent you are assumed to be. If memories are not real, what are they? They are constructions. They are creations. They are interpretations you make from each event you experience. Since memories are not real, can you change them? The short answer is - since you made them, you can change them. If you change a memory, are you changing the past? With that question, we have crossed over into a brave new world for most. Again the short answer is there is no past to change. History is the cornerstone of the illusion and is made of only unreal memories of things that never happen the way you think they did. Holding on to your negative memories imprisons you in the past, and you can never get free. The solution is to heal your past and to let go of what was never what you thought it was. Memories are not real, and there is no past. What an exciting time we are going to have.

Описание: Why does America have a love affair with homeownership? For many, buying a home is no longer in their best interest and may actually harm their children's educational opportunities. This book argues that U.S. leaders need to reevaluate all housing policies and develop new ones that ensure that all Americans have greater access to affordable housing whether rented or owned. After describing homeownership's most common myths, the book shows why the financial circumstances America's financial underclass now face make it impossible for them to benefit from homeownership because they cannot afford to buy homes. The book then exposes the risks of "home buying while brown or black" by discussing U.S. policies that made it easier for whites to buy homes easily and cheaply, but harder and more costly for blacks and Latinos to do so. The book argues that remaining traces of racial discrimination and certain demographic features continue to make it harder for blacks and Latinos to receive homeownership's promised benefits.

Описание: There is a growing belief that the capitalist system no longer works. Inequality is rampant. The environment is being destroyed for profits. In some western nations, life expectancy is even falling. Political power is wielded by wealthy elites and big business, not the people. But for proponents of capitalism, it is the engine of progress, not just making all of us materially better off, but helping to address everything from women`s rights to political freedoms. We seem to stand at a crossroads: do we need to fix the system as a matter of urgency, or would it be better to hold our nerve?

In Capitalism in the 21st Century, internationally well-regarded economist Dr Donghyun Park articulately explains why more capitalism is needed to tackle global problems such as climate change and inhumane poverty. While defending capitalism against its unfair demonization, the author makes a positive case for entrepreneurial capitalism, which creates wealth and jobs as well as drives human progress. According to the author, reforming the financial industry, which has become a self-serving leviathan, and more fundamentally, tweaking the economic role of the government, which stifles growth-promoting entrepreneurship, are critical to restoring the vitality of capitalism. The book is explicitly written in such a way that the general reader without any background in economics or finance can easily understand it.Related Link(s)

Описание: This story begins with my stroke. I became unconscious and stayed that way for the next 48 hours in a hospital. It is also the story of the people who took care of me: bystanders who called emergency services, ambulance workers, hospital workers. Each of them played an important role keeping me alive and safe. I received care from hospital personnel daily for the next month. They used their extensive training to help me to learn to eat, speak, walk, and do all the things we take for granted. Once home, I received ongoing support from medical personnel, family, and friends. I experienced little improvements every day and am still improving today. Not everyone has a positive experience in a hospital or with medical staff. When I was discharged from the hospital, I thought about the people who would become patients in a hospital. I thought about the people who dont like hospitals or doctors. I thought about the patients and their families who were confused and scared. I wish everyone could visit a therapy room in a hospital, before they become a patient, to learn the purpose of rehabilitation therapy, and understand the purpose of all the gadgets in the room. I wanted to share my experience with day-to-day life in the hospital and articulate those things that helped me. My recovery continued long after I left the hospital, doing all I could do. Was I ever scared or depressed? You bet. I let people know I needed help and they helped me. This book is for people who we meet every day, who do the best they can for others: doctors, nurses, and the therapists who helped a woman stand up and walk again. Thank you. Is it important we celebrate little accomplishments? Yes.
