Автор: Liakopoulos, Dimitris Название: International organizations and legal sanctions against governments ISBN: 1680531387 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781680531381 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 18804.00 р. Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ.
Описание: This book examines the relationship between governments and international organizations under international law. After surveying the policing powers of international organizations under international law, it illustrates some normative aspects of law that distinguish regulation from enforcement via study of recent legal cases before international judicial bodies. According to Dimitris Liakopoulos’s expert analysis, if the two provisions codify the same general rule, the peculiarities of the relationship between an international organization and individual governments mean that sanctions decline when measured against the hypothesis that the latter facilitate an organization’s violation of its obligations to all. The book concludes with peculiarities in the enforcement of international law by international organizations.
Описание: The view that China has become increasingly assertive under President Xi Jinping is now a common trope in academic and media discourse. However, until the end of Xi Jinping’s first term in March 2018, China had been relatively restrained in its use of coercive economic measures. This is puzzling given the conventional belief among scholars and practitioners that sanctions are a middle ground between diplomatic and military/paramilitary action. Using a wide range of methods and data — including in-depth interviews with 76 current and former politicians, policy-makers, diplomats, and commercial actors across 12 countries and 16 cities — Sanctions with Chinese Characteristics: Rhetoric and Restraint in China’s Diplomacy examines the ways in which China had employed economic sanctions to further its political objectives, and the factors explaining China’s behaviour. This book provides a systematic investigation into the ways in which Chinese decisionmakers approached sanctions both at the United Nations Security Council and unilaterally, and shows how China’s longstanding sanctions rhetoric has had a constraining effect on its behaviour, resulting in its inability to employ sanctions in complete alignment with its immediate interests.
Описание: Some of the effects of that approach were the endless and sometimes completely meaningless wars. Eventually, nations began to build fragile alliances when they realized that it was costlier to fight one another than to work together. Unfortunately, like everything else, international sanctions have come to represent the worst aspects of postcolonial hegemony and even outright international injustice. In effect, international sanctions have exposed contradictions inherent in modern implementations of international law. Some of the most vocal advocates for international sanctions are countries that are not actually signatories to many of the internationally accepted covenants. This book attempts to tell the story of international sanctions. Specifically, it highlights the political and economic interests that lay at the heart of this conflict among nations.
Описание: In the last decades, violent non-state actors (VNSAs) such as rebel and terrorist organizations have proved their capacity to break international law. Despite the UN Security Council`s growing tendency to sanction VNSAs, there has been little research analyzing the effects of UN targeted sanctions on these non-government actors.
As of 2017, about 10-12 million Iranian people live under the poverty line. Millions are likely to have joined this group since the economic downturn began in 2018 when sanctions were reimposed.
In Collateral Damage: The Humanitarian Consequences of U.S. Sanctions on Iran, Kristy Lam explores the inaccuracy of the general perception in the West of Iran being the "enemy" and/or being a dangerous country in the Middle East. This book explores a different side of Iran and reveals the kindness, humility, and resilience of ordinary Iranian people despite the hardships caused by economic sanctions.
Ordinary civilians should not be put in the crosshairs of international relations. By learning from the experiences of Iranian citizens, this book examines how foreign policy tools can affect people's daily lives-everything from access to healthcare, the price of food, or starting a business. Learn what Iran is really like.

Описание: This book develops a unified theory of economic statecraft to clarify when and how sanctions and incentives can be used effectively to secure meaningful policy concessions.
Описание: This book presents a comparative analysis of Russia and Iran under sanctions. Whilst the growing literature on sanctions has focused primarily on their effectiveness, much less attention has been paid to the ways in which sanctions have transformed target societies and states.
