Описание: Mary Stuart is infamous for the mysteries of her reign. Mary ruled in a patriarchal society and married a subject; a Catholic queen who was the only person in her kingdom legally allowed to hear Catholic mass. These contradictions in Mary`s life forced her contemporaries to search for new answers about how Scotland should be governed.
A philosophical exploration of female submission, using insights from feminist thinkers--especially Simone de Beauvoir--to reveal the complexities of women's reality and lived experience
What role do women play in the perpetuation of patriarchy? On the one hand, popular media urges women to be independent, outspoken, and career-minded. Yet, this same media glorifies a specific, sometimes voluntary, female submissiveness as a source of satisfaction. In philosophy, even less has been said on why women submit to men and the discussion has been equally contradictory--submission has traditionally been considered a vice or pathology, but female submission has been valorized as innate to women's nature. Is there a way to explore female submission in all of its complexity--not denying its appeal in certain instances, and not buying into an antifeminist, sexist, or misogynistic perspective? We Are Not Born Submissive offers the first in-depth philosophical exploration of female submission, focusing on the thinking of Simone de Beauvoir, and more recent work in feminist philosophy, epistemology, and political theory. Manon Garcia argues that to comprehend female submission, we must invert how we examine power, taking a bottom-up approach and seeing it from the woman's point of view. Historically, philosophers, psychoanalysts, and even some radical feminists have conflated femininity and submission. Garcia demonstrates that only through the lens of women's lived experiences--their economic, social, and political situations--and how women adapt their preferences to maintain their own well-being, can we understand the ways in which gender hierarchies in society shape women's experiences. Ultimately, she asserts that women do not actively choose submission. Rather, they consent to--and sometimes take pleasure in--what is prescribed to them through social norms within a patriarchy. Moving beyond the simplistic binary of natural destiny or moral vice, We Are Not Born Submissive takes a sophisticated look at how female submissiveness can be explained.
One thing we can all agree on in our "safe, sane and consensual" lifestyle is that punishment must feel good. Pain must ultimately be pleasurable. And any sort of masochism or sadism must work in the context of pleasing the sub.
In BDSM culture, it seems relatively easy to get the hang of the attitude, the behavior and the words. But in terms of logistics, as in how to properly discipline or punish a sub, things do get a bit more complicated.
And that's why we're devoting this entire book on how to play right and how to punish the sub so that she likes it, rather than the Dom abusing her and violating trust-the ultimate sin in the game of discipline.
We're also going to cover some of the more "fringe" topics of BDSM, including health risks, extreme pain, unique psychological states and how you as a sub can protect yourself. This will be of crucial interest to you as a sub or switch or Dom, since it's best to understand the logistics and motivations of both roles before you fully submit.
You may also discover that as you take precautions and grow in knowledge, more extreme practices may appeal to you. At the very least, you will always know what a Dom means by some of these code words and what they imply sexually or in punishment. It's always a good idea to stay informed and never take chances-never assume anything! Because in BDSM, assuming anything of your Dom can be a big mistake.
To get truly healthy and pleasurable BDSM experience, these are the topics you surely don't want to miss!

Описание: The patriarchal structure of the Nation of Islam (NOI) promised black women the prospect of finding a provider and a protector among the organization's men, who were fiercely committed to these masculine roles. Black women's experience in the NOI, however, has largely remained on the periphery of scholarship. Here, Ula Taylor documents their struggle to escape the devaluation of black womanhood while also clinging to the empowering promises of patriarchy. Taylor shows how, despite being relegated to a lifestyle that did not encourage working outside of the home, NOI women found freedom in being able to bypass the degrading experiences connected to labor performed largely by working-class black women and in raising and educating their children in racially affirming environments.Telling the stories of women like Clara Poole (wife of Elijah Muhammad) and Burnsteen Sharrieff (secretary to W. D. Fard, founder of the Allah Temple of Islam), Taylor offers a compelling narrative that explains how their decision to join a homegrown, male-controlled Islamic movement was a complicated act of self-preservation and self-love in Jim Crow America.

Описание:
Morocco is hailed by academics, international NGO workers, and the media as a trailblazer in women’s rights and legal reforms. The country is considered a model for other countries in the Middle East and North African region, but has Morocco made as much progress as experts and government officials claim? In Modernizing Patriarchy, Katja ?van Elliott examines why women’s rights advances are lauded in Morocco in theory but are often not recognized in reality, despite the efforts of both Islamist and secular feminists.
In Morocco, female literacy rates remain among the lowest in the region; many women are victims of gender-based violence despite legal reforms; and girls as young as twelve are still engaged to adult men, despite numerous reforms. Based on extensive ethnographic research and fieldwork in Oued al-Ouliya, Modernizing Patriarchy offers a window into the life of Moroccan Muslim women who, though often young and educated, find it difficult to lead a dignified life in a country where they are expected to have only one destiny: that of wife and mother. ?van Elliott exposes their struggles with modernity and the legal reforms that are supposedly ameliorating their lives. In a balanced approach, she also presents male voices and their reasons for criticizing the prevailing women’s rights discourse. Compelling and insightful, Modernizing Patriarchy exposes the rarely talked about reality of Morocco’s approach toward reform.

Описание: This book explores the intimate marital relationships of Indonesian Muslim married women. As well as describing and analysing their sexual relationships, the book also investigates how Islam influences discourses of sexuality in Indonesia.
Описание: It elaborates on the kinship system in rural Sindh and explores how young married women strategize and negotiate with patriarchy. These conditions are usually seen as evidence of women`s subordination, but these are also strategies for survival where accommodation to patriarchy wins them approval.
Описание: Teaching Moral Sex is the first comprehensive study of the role of religion in the history of public sex education in the United States from the late nineteenth century to the early twenty-first. Far from being a barrier to sex education, Kristy Slominski demonstrates, religion has been deeply embedded in the history of sex education, and its legacy has shaped the terms of current debates.
