Описание: The first part of J. R. R. Tolkien`s epic adventureTHE LORD OF THE RINGS
The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien's three-volume epic, is set in the imaginary world of Middle-earth - home to many strange beings, and most notably hobbits, a peace-loving "little people," cheerful and shy. Since its original British publication in 1954-55, the saga has entranced readers of all ages.
It is at once a classic myth and a modern fairy tale. Critic Michael Straight has hailed it as one of the "very few works of genius in recent literature." Middle-earth is a world receptive to poets, scholars, children, and all other people of good will. Donald Barr has described it as "a scrubbed morning world, and a ringing nightmare world...especially sunlit, and shadowed by perils very fundamental, of a peculiarly uncompounded darkness." The story of ths world is one of high and heroic adventure.
Barr compared it to Beowulf, C.S. Lewis to Orlando Furioso, W.H. Auden to The Thirty-nine Steps.
In fact the saga is sui generis - a triumph of imagination which springs to life within its own framework and on its own terms.

The ArchiMate language enables Enterprise Architects to describe, analyze, and visualize the relationships among business domains in an unambiguous way. This book is the official specification of the ArchiMate 3.0.1 modeling language from The Open Group. ArchiMate 3.0.1 is a minor update to ArchiMate 3.0, containing the set of corrections from ArchiMate 3.0 Technical Corrigendum No. 1 (U172). This addresses inconsistencies and errors identified since the publication of Version 3.0 in June 2016.The ArchiMate Specification supports modeling throughout the TOGAF(R) Architecture Development Method (ADM). New features in Version 3 include elements for modeling the enterprise at a strategic level, such as capability, resource, and outcome. It also includes support to model the physical world of materials and equipment. Furthermore, the consistency and structure of the language have been improved, definitions have been aligned with other standards, and its usability has been enhanced in various other ways. The intended audience is threefold: ¢ Enterprise Architecture practitioners, such as architects (e.g., business, application, information, process, infrastructure, and, obviously, enterprise architects), senior and operational management, project leaders, and anyone committed to work within the reference framework defined by the Enterprise Architecture. ¢ Those who intend to implement the ArchiMate language in a software tool; they will find a complete and detailed description of the language in this book. ¢ The academic community, on which we rely for amending and improving the language, based on state-of-the-art research results in the Enterprise Architecture field.
Описание: Digging deep into J. R. R. Tolkiens spiritual biography--his religious scholarship and his love of both Christian and pagan myth--Stratford Caldecott offers a critical study of how the acclaimed author effectively created a vivid Middle Earth using the familiar rites and ceremonies of human history. And while readers and moviegoers alike may appreciate the fantasy world of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, few know that in life, Tolkien was a devout Roman Catholic and that the characters, the events, and the general morality of each novel are informed by the dogmas of his faith. Revised and updated, this acclaimed study of Tolkiens achievement--previously released as Secret Fire in the UK--includes commentary on Peter Jacksons film adaptations and explores many of the fascinating stories and letters published after Tolkiens death.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

A unique, wholly realized other world, evoked from deep in the well of Time, massively detailed, absorbingly entertaining, profound in meaning.

Описание: These early stories by the award-winning novelist, David Allan Cates, take place in Mexico and Central America during the war years of the 1980s. The protagonists are exiled lovers-broken for the most part and trying to make sense of their new world of grief. Far from home and working in a boatyard, on a movie set, a banana freighter, as a veal salesman, medical interpreter, writer, and Sandinista volunteer, they`re forced to re-imagine not only love, peace, suffering, and beauty but the meaning of their very own lives. "The stories in David Allan Cates`s Imagining Tanya, sometimes harrowing, sometimes hilarious, are always moving. Like his novels, they`re the perfect mixture of tough and tender, full of heart, mystery, and wisdom. But the compressed form allows him to focus on the strange, subtle moments that turn a life upside down or right it again, even if his characters don`t always recognize the change when it comes. In these rich pages, a host of American ex-pats wandering in Central America-some innocent, some jaded-all carry with them the potential for an earthly, messy sort of grace, gifted to them by a masterful storyteller." - Scott Nadelson, author of One of Us and The Next Scott Nadelson "David Allan Cates creates a vivid, unforgettable world of souls lost in Central America in the 1980s. The characters` heartbreak and displacement are mirrored by the larger conflicts of war all around them, and they seek redemption in the bravery of loving through pain. Imagining Tanya is a bold, gripping, and seductive collection, full of moments of grace." - Maxim Loskutoff, author of Ruthie Fear and Come West and See

Описание:
This volume is the first comprehensive survey of the sociolinguistic studies on Japanese. Japanese, like other languages, has developed a highly diverse linguistic system that is realized as variation shaped by interactions of linguistic and social factors. This volume primarily focuses on both classic and current topics of sociolinguistics that were first studied in Western languages, and then subsequently examined in the Japanese language. The topics in this volume cover major issues in sociolinguistics that also characterize sociolinguistic features of Japanese. Such topics as gender, honorifics, and politeness are particularly pertinent to Japanese, as is well-known in general sociolinguistics. At the same time, this volume includes studies on other topics such as social stratification, discourse, contact, and language policy, which have been widely conducted in the Japanese context. In addition, this volume introduces "domestic" approaches to sociolinguistics developed in Japan. They emerged a few decades before the development of the so-called Labovian and Hymesian sociolinguistics in the US, and they have shaped a unique development of sociolinguistic studies in Japan.
