Описание:
A provocative, highly accessible journey to the heart of Sophocles’ Antigone elucidating why it keeps resurfacing as a central text of Western thought and Western culture. There is probably no classical text that has inspired more interpretation, critical attention, and creative response than Sophocles’ Antigone. The general perspective from which the book is written could be summarized with this simple question: What is it about the figure of Antigone that keeps haunting us? Why do all these readings and rewritings keep emerging? To what kind of always contemporary contradiction does the need, the urge to reread and reimagine Antigone—in all kinds of contexts and languages—correspond? As key anchor points of this general interrogation, three particular “obsessions” have driven the author’s thinking and writing about Antigone. First is the issue of violence. The violence in Antigone is the opposite of “graphic” as we have come to know it in movies and in the media; rather, it is sharp and piercing, it goes straight to the bone. It is the violence of language, the violence of principles, the violence of desire, the violence of subjectivity. Then there is the issue of funerary rites and their role in appeasing the specific “undeadness” that seems to be the other side of human life, its irreducible undercurrent that death alone cannot end and put to rest. This issue prompted the author to look at the relationship between language, sexuality, death, and “second death.” The third issue, which constitutes the focal point of the book, is Antigone’s statement that if it were her children or husband lying unburied out there, she would let them rot and not take it upon herself to defy the decree of the state. The author asks, how does this exclusivist, singularizing claim (she would do it only for Polyneices), which she uses to describe the “unwritten law” she follows, tally with Antigone’s universal appeal and compelling power? Attempting to answer this leads to the question of what this particular (Oedipal) family’s misfortune, of which Antigone chooses to be the guardian, shares with the general condition of humanity. Which in turn forces us to confront the seemingly self-evident question: “What is incest?” Let Them Rot is Alenka Zupan?i?’s absorbing and succinct guided tour of the philosophical and psychoanalytic issues arising from the Theban trilogy. Her original and surprising intervention into the broad and prominent field of study related to Sophocles’ Antigone illuminates the classical text’s ongoing relevance and invites a wide readership to become captivated by its themes.

Math Separates Society. Math is just as polarizing as politics and religion. Schools continue to create the haves and have-nots of mathematics.
Teachers, what is your math story?
What is the math story of your students?
Each student has a unique math story and perspective that is often overlooked in math classrooms. Student math performance does not define math understanding. Math Ability and Number Sense are not the same and must be carefully identified separately for each student.
Why do students hate math?
Learning math is emotional for students. Teaching, facilitating and delivering math content creates emotions and attitudes for teachers and students - - Why? Teachers must continue to refine their methods and techniques for providing rich math experiences that engage and motivate every student. Making Mathineers is for math educators, school leaders and parents who desperately want to improve math understanding and achievement for themselves AND their learners.
Find out how to:
+Un-separate math society.
+Uncover the unique mathematical story and potential of each student.

Описание: Understood differently by different people, creativity has been linked to novelty, originality, problem-solving, flexibility, resourcefulness, self-expression, and health maintenance. In this manuscript, creativity is explored through the eyes of an occupational therapist. The author approaches creativity from two angles; as a therapeutic modality and as a way of thinking. The manuscript offers a thorough literature review of creativity and its connections to occupational therapy theory and practice. It brings a historical overview spanning from the days of the Arts and Crafts Movement to contemporary approaches in occupational therapy. Not only is the relevant research gathered and evaluated, but the reader can also find practical applications of research findings to practice. For instance, we learn about the factors that can contribute to the creativity of occupational therapists and how to best foster them in a modern work environment. The author also explores some of the concepts related to the well-being of occupational therapists, such as work satisfaction and work autonomy and their correlations to creativity. The manuscript also presents a novel assessment tool, developed and validated by the author - the Creativity in Occupational Therapy Questionnaire (COTQ) - which is intended for the study of creativity and educational purposes. This manuscript is a must-read for anyone interested in the use of creativity in health care and the evidence behind it. It offers up-to-date information on the subject of creativity in occupational therapy. However, its influence goes beyond a specific discipline. It argues that creativity can be a healing force, for both the client and the therapist, and that we should do more to nurture it in our lives and at work.

Описание: This book addresses the challenging and exciting issues of the implementation of the European Union’s grand strategies, with a particular interest in the implementation of the current Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals. It provides insight into the impact of this strategic process on some of the current global issues relevant to the European Union, such as the European and global energy market, food supplies, industrial components etc. Some of the challenges have such a strong short-term impact, that already accepted strategic priorities and decisions are being questioned and re-examined. This is a particularly exciting subject, both as a research topic and as a policy issue.
