Описание: Much research has been undertaken in methanation of CO and CO? and, as such, methanation is widely employed in industrial applications for complete conversion (removal) of CO and CO?. As a novel deep CO abatement process, research into selective CO methanation is occurring. This book analyses the vast existing research on CO and CO? methanation to find key issues to perform CO methanation selectively and demonstrates the process experimentally in an actual reactor scale. It also offers a focus on a new deep CO removal process in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs), including selective CO methanation catalysts and reactors, along with conventional CO abatement processes such as water gas shift and preferential oxidation of CO (PROX). In addition, related CO removal techniques and current fuel cell systems are presented. The book is ideal for graduate students, fuel cell researchers, chemical engineers and chemists with an interest in the field.

Описание:

The development of parallel synthesis and high-throughput characterization tools offer scientists a time-efficient and cost-effective solution for accelerating traditional synthesis processes and developing the structure-property relationships of multiple materials under variable conditions. Written by renowned contributors to the field, Combinatorial and High-Throughput Discovery and Optimization of Catalysts and Materials documents the impact of combinatorial methods for inorganic, organic, polymeric, and biological materials applications over the last several years.

This valuable reference describes techniques for the preparation, formulation, fabrication, optimization, performance testing, and evaluation of catalysts, polymeric materials arrays, sensing materials, fuel cell battery and memory materials, semiconductor nanoclusters, dielectrics, OLED arrays, additives, organic coatings, luminescent materials, and phosphors. The book introduces some of the latest features in the development of combinatorial and high throughput workflows, including new library designs, the scale-up of combinatorially discovered materials, and innovative methods of data storage, data mining and informatics. It also points to active research in the development of intelligent software for data mining including multiparameter modeling and visualization.

As combinatorial materials science becomes increasingly applicable to a growing number of materials and problems, Combinatorial and High-Throughput Discovery and Optimization of Catalysts and Materials provides an essential portrait of the success, challenges, and opportunities in this field for the next generation of combinatorial chemists, material scientists, and industrial chemists and academics.

Описание: This work revolves around the hydrogen economy and energy-storage electrochemical systems. More specifically, it investigates the possibility of using magnetron sputtering for deposition of efficient thin-film anode catalysts with low noble metal content for proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEM-WEs) and unitized regenerative fuel cells (PEM-URFCs). The motivation for this research derives from the urgent need to minimize the price of such electrochemical devices should they enter the mass production.Numerous experiments were carried out, correlating the actual in-cell performance with the varying position of thin-film catalyst within the membrane electrode assembly, with the composition of high-surface support sublayer and with the chemical structure of the catalyst itself. The wide arsenal of analytical methods ranging from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy through electrochemical atomic force microscopy to photoelectron spectroscopy allowed the description of the complex phenomena behind different obtained efficiencies.Systematic optimizations led to the design of a novel PEM-WE anode thin-film iridium catalyst which performs similarly to the standard counterparts despite using just a fraction of their noble metal content. Moreover, the layer-by-layer approach resulted in the design of a Ir/TiC/Pt bi-functional anode for PEM-URFC which is able to operate in both the fuel cell and electrolyzer regime and thus helps to cut the cost of the whole conversion system even further.

Описание:

Handbook of Spent Hydroprocessing Catalysts, Second Edition, covers all aspects of spent hydroprocessing catalysts, both regenerable and non-regenerable. It contains detailed information on hazardous characteristics of spent and regenerated catalysts. The information forms a basis for determining processing options to make decisions on whether spent catalysts can be either reused on refinery site after regeneration or used as the source of new materials.

For non-regenerable spent catalysts, attention is paid to safety and ecological implications of utilizing landfill and other waste handling and storage options to ensure environmental acceptance. As such, this handbook can be used as a benchmark document to develop threshold limits of regulated species.

Описание: Even though Ziegler catalysts have been known for almost half a century, rare earth metals (Ln), particularly neodymium (Nd)-based Ziegler catalyst systems, only came into the focus of industrial and academic research well afterthelargescaleapplicationoftitanium, cobaltandnickelcatalystsystems. Asadirectconsequenceofthelaterecognitionofthetechnologicalpotentialof rareearthmetalZieglercatalysts, thesesystemshaveattractedmuchattention. Considerable progress has been made in this ?eld as a result of intensive workperformed during the last fewyears. Worthmentioning is thestructural identi?cation of a variety of Ln/Al heterobimetallic complexes and the role of alkyl aluminum cocatalysts in molar mass control. Furthermore, a deeper understanding ofthe polymerization mechanism, suchas theliving character of neodymium-catalyzed diene polymerization associated with the reversible transfer of living polymer chains between Nd and Al, was revealed quite - cently. In spite of the vast number of patents and publications mainly issued duringthelastdecade, acomprehensivereviewthatcoversthescienti?caswell as the patent literature has been missing until now. In this volume we try to review the available literature by two independent approaches to Nd and Ln-catalyzed diene polymerizations. In the ?rst part of thevolume, whichisentitled"Neodymium-Based Ziegler/NattaCatalystsand their Application in Diene Polymerization", a polymer chemist's view is given with strong emphasis on Nd-based catalyst systems. Also technological and industrialaspectsofNd-catalyzeddienepolymerizationsareaddressed.Inthe secondpartofthevolume, whichisentitled"Rare-EarthMetalsandAluminum Getting Close in Ziegler-type Organometallics", a more organometallic p- spective isgivenandLn-based catalystsystems areaddressed. Bythesynopsis of these different perspectives, the reader will comprehend the complexity of Ln-based Ziegler catalyst systems and their application to the polymerization of dienes. This volume also gives a description ofthe evolution in Nd-catalyzed po- merization of dienes from the early works to the current state of the art.
