Описание: This highly innovative book employs digital corpus analysis and visualization to allow us to interpret and systematize Nietzsche and his work. The book shows how virtues emerge from instincts and explores five essential Nietzschean virtues: curiosity, courage, sense of humor, and contemptuousness both toward oneself and toward one`s society.

Описание: In this study, Don Dombowsky proposes that the foundation of Nietzsche`s political thought is the aristocratic liberal critique of democratic society. But he claims that Nietzsche radicalizes this critique through a Machiavellian conversion, based on a reading of "The Prince".

Описание: This book claims Nietzsche as a leftist revolutionary but without overlooking the conservative and retrogressive elements of his political philosophy. The author argues that these two `halves` of his philosophy help construct a new form of politics for contemporary readers, a possibility of revolution post-Marx.

It will be important for scholars of Nietzsche`s metaphysics and of the history of philosophy and science more generally.
Описание: Tracing the notion of ‘the gift’ in Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra Emilio Corriero provides a new interpretation of this essential text, alongside ‘the gift’s’ evolution as a key concept in the history of western philosophy and Christianity. The last phase of Nietzsche's thought, including his writings on the death of God, The Will to Power, the Overman, and eternal recurrence are analysed anew in Corriero’s reading of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. From Nietzsche’s Prologue, in which Zarathustra presents the idea of the Overman as a gift of love and wisdom, up to the fourth and final book, in which the theme of hospitality and sacrifice are inextricably linked to the concept of donation, highlighting the novelty and exceptionality of Zarathustra's gift. Building on these ideas, this book reveals how the gift of Zarathustra put forward by Nietzsche rethinks the relationships between individuals based on Christian doctrine, enabling new forms of coexistence and sociality to thrive.Using key 20th century writings on ‘the gift’ from Derrida, Benveniste, and Esposito, Corriero traverses themes of sacrifice and hospitality, the idea of friend and foe, compassionate love and affirmative love, to present Zarathustra as Nietzsche’s ultimate gift, as well as cementing the centrality of ‘the gift’ to the history of sociality and philosophy.

Описание: On the Genealogy of Morality has become the most common point of entry into Nietzsche's thought. It offers relatively straightforward, sustained explanatory narratives addressing many of the main ideas of Nietzsche's mature thought, such as 'will to power, ' 'nihilism, ' 'perspectivism, ' and the 'value of truth'. It also directs its attention to what is widely taken to be Nietzsche's important philosophical contribution, the critique of morality. Yet it is challenging to understand because Nietzsche intended it as an expansion and elaboration of his ideas developed elsewhere. Robert Guay provides the interpretive and philosophical context to make Nietzsche's thought more accessible and shows how Nietzsche's narratives engage with philosophical issues about agency, self-knowledge, historical explanation and the critique of morality.

Описание:
"A superb case of deep intellectual renewal and the most important book to have been written about Nietzsche] in the past few years."-Gavin Jacobson, New Statesman
Nietzsche's impact on the world of culture, philosophy, and the arts is uncontested, but his political thought remains mired in controversy. By placing Nietzsche back in his late-nineteenth-century German context, Nietzsche's Great Politics moves away from the disputes surrounding Nietzsche's appropriation by the Nazis and challenges the use of the philosopher in postmodern democratic thought. Rather than starting with contemporary democratic theory or continental philosophy, Hugo Drochon argues that Nietzsche's political ideas must first be understood in light of Bismarck's policies, in particular his "Great Politics," which transformed the international politics of the late nineteenth century. Nietzsche's Great Politics shows how Nietzsche made Bismarck's notion his own, enabling him to offer a vision of a unified European political order that was to serve as a counterbalance to both Britain and Russia. This order was to be led by a "good European" cultural elite whose goal would be to encourage the rebirth of Greek high culture. In relocating Nietzsche's politics to their own time, the book offers not only a novel reading of the philosopher but also a more accurate picture of why his political thought remains so relevant today.
