Описание: My experience as a State Correction Officer inside New Yorks Prisons. As you read Paul Harringtons day-to-day and month-to-month experiences within the states prison system, you will see a broken system one that is full of loopholes, lies, cover-ups and corruption. This system is full of daily violence and numerous officers are injured by violent inmates. Each officer has their unique view of the prison system. Here, Harrington wishes to share his perspective of how different administrations created changes in the daily operations at Fishkill Correctional Facility, where he was stationed after a 15-month stint at Sing Sing. Not every day was

Описание:

Physicochemical and Environmental Plant Physiology, Fifth Edition, is the updated version of an established and successful text and reference for plant scientists. This work represents the seventh book in a 50-year series by Park Nobel beginning in 1970. The original structure and philosophy of the book continue in this new edition, providing a genuine synthesis of modern physicochemical and physiological thinking, while updating the content. Key concepts in plant physiology are developed with the use of chemistry, physics, and mathematics fundamentals.

The book contains plant physiology basics while also including many equations and often their derivation to quantify the processes and explain why certain effects and pathways occur, helping readers to broaden their knowledge base. New topics included in this edition are advances in plant hydraulics, other plant-water relations, and the effects of climate change on plants. This series continues to be the gold standard in environmental plant physiology.

  • Describes the chemical and the physical principles behind plant physiological processes
  • Provides key equations for each chapter and solutions for the problems on each topic
  • Includes features that enhances the utility of the book for self-study such as problems after each chapter and the 45-page section "Solution to Problems" at the end of the book
  • Includes appendices with conversation factors, constants/coefficients, abbreviations, and symbols

New to this edition:

  • The scientific fields and the nationalities of the more than 115 scientists mentioned in the book, providing a nice personal touch
  • While adding over 100 new or updated references, reference of special importance historically are retained, showing how science has advanced over the ages
  • The often challenging problems at the end of each chapter provide an important test of the mastery of the topics covered. Moreover, the solutions to the problems are presented in detail at the end of the book. The book can thus be used in courses but also especially useful for students or other persons studying this often difficult material on their own
  • Finally and most important, the fifth edition continues the emphasis of a quantitative approach begun fifty years ago by Park Nobel (1970) with the publication of his first book in the series. Over the next fifty years from 1970 to 2020, the author has gained considerable experience on how to present quantitative and often abstract material to students. This edition is most likely the final version in the series, which not only covers some of his unique contributions but also has helped countless students and colleagues appreciate the power and insight gained into biology from calculations

Описание: This volume continues the retrospective analyses of Volumes I and II, but goes beyond that in an attempt to understand how phenolic acids are partitioned in seedling-solution and seedling-microbe-soil-sand culture systems and how phenolic acid effects on seedlings may be related to the actual and/or conditional physicochemical properties (e.g., solubility, hydrophobicity, pKa, molecular structure and soil sorption/desorption) of simple phenolic acids. Specifically, it explores the quantitative partitioning (i.e., source-sink relationships) of benzoic and cinnamic acids in cucumber seedling-solution and cucumber seedling-microbe-soil-sand systems and how that partitioning may influence phenolic acid effects on cucumber seedlings. Regressions, correlations and conceptual and hypothetical models are used to achieve these objectives. Cucumber seedlings are used as a surrogate for phenolic acid sensitive herbaceous dicotyledonous weed seedlings. This volume was written specifically for researchers and their students interested in understanding how a range of simple phenolic acids and potentially other putative allelopathic compounds released from living plants and their litter and residues may modify soil chemistry, soil and rhizosphere microbial biology, seedling physiology and seedling growth. In addition, this volume describes the potential relationships, where they may exist, for direct transfer of organic compounds between plants, plant communication and plant-plant allelopathic interactions and addresses the following questions: Can physicochemical properties of phenolic acids be used as tools to help understand the complex behavior of phenolic acids and the ultimate effects of phenolic acids on sensitive seedlings? What insights do laboratory bioassays and the conceptual and hypothetical models of laboratory systems provide us concerning the potential behavior and effects of phenolic acids in field systems? What potential role may phenolic acids play in broadleaf-weed seedling emergence in wheat debris cover crop no-till systems?

Описание:

Physical and chemical interactions between various constituents resulting from processing operations often lead to physical, sensory, and nutritional changes in foods. Combining important information on processing and food quality, Physicochemical Aspects of Food Engineering and Processing describes the effects of various processing technologies on quality changes of different major foods in an integrative manner.

Written by Physicochemical Experts in Food Engineering & Processing
Part I critically reviews the physicochemical property changes of different foods undergoing selected processes, such as microencapsulation, frying, microwave-assisted thermal processing, high-pressure processing, pulsed electric field processing, and freezing. This section also includes a chapter on the effects of various processing technologies on microbial growth and inactivation. Part II focuses on multiphase food systems made of proteins, seafoods, red meats, and pet foods, and the physicochemical changes they undergo when being processed.

Physicochemical Aspects of Food Engineering and Processing covers the engineering, processing, and quality angles equally. It is an extremely useful resource for academic and industrial researchers seeking an up-to-date overview of the increasingly important combination of both sides of food research and development.
