Описание: Examines the praxis of internationalization in higher education with empirical research and relevant models of practice that approach the topic critically and responsibly. The book innovates and (re)humanizes internationalization efforts by focusing on the people and communities touched, intentionally and unintentionally, by said efforts.
Illuminating thus far understudied international relations in global higher education, the book titled Internationalization of Higher Education for Development illustrates how the Brazilian government, under the presidency of Luis In cio Lula da Silva (2003-2010), legitimized Africa-Brazil relations often referring to the presumably shared history of transatlantic slavery as the condition for solidarity cooperation and international integration. Ress reveals how this notion of history produces a vision of Brazil as a multicultural nation able to redress longstanding racialized inequalities while casting 'Africa' as the continent that remains forever in the past. She explores how this ambiguous notion was translated into curricula and classroom practices, and, in particular how it shaped international students' experiences at a newly-created university in the Northeast of Brazil. Ress demonstrates how the historicized framing in conjunction with the powerfully racialized class structures that characterize Brazilian society, the challenging material conditions surrounding the university, and the future aspirations of students created an environment that made solidarity an economic necessity while repeating the century-old colonial gesture of othering 'Africa' in new yet all too familiar ways - reworking and reemploying the idea of race in the name of Brazil's progress and development.
This book showcases in an innovative way the challenges and opportunities of building international relations in postcolonial education contexts. A much-needed advances over current scholarship analysing race, blackness, and solidarity, it offers a timely contribution to postfoundational and postcolonial studies in comparative and international education.

Описание: This edited book examines English-Medium Instruction (EMI) language policy and practice in higher education around the world, highlighting how English language usage affects the internationalization of universities, the way that disciplines are taught and learned, and questioning whether internationalization through EMI achieves the values of global citizenship and inclusivity/diversity to which it aspires. Written by experts in the field, the book includes data-based research from universities around the globe, with three chapters on Asia and the Far East (Malaysia, Japan and China), four on Europe (Denmark, the Netherlands and Italy) and one each on Africa (Ethiopia) and Central America (Mexico). Sources include policy documents, questionnaire surveys, focus groups and semi-structured interviews involving university policymakers, lecturers, students, and administrative staff.
This book will be of interest to students and scholars of language and education policy, internationalization and applied linguistics, particularly English-Medium Instruction (EMI), academic English and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF).
Описание: Comprehensive internationalization is a strategic process that seeks to align initiatives for globally-oriented and internationally-connected programs that is essential for the attainment of global competitiveness and qualification recognition. Internationalization of higher education has been in broad debate among professionals, and procedures and processes towards desired quality of library and information science (LIS) academic standards are still a continuing discussion among stakeholders.
Internationalization of Library and Information Science Education in the Asia-Pacific Region is a critical scholarly resource that examines the internationalization of LIS education to promote, develop, and facilitate engagement and mobility of library professionals around the world with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. This book can open doors for greater global engagement and cooperation among LIS schools and professional governing bodies in countries that can mutually benefit and propel development to be on par with European and North American counterparts. Competitive strategies and higher education-industry collaboration policies are playing an important role in fostering the reputation and international rankings of higher education institutions. The positive impact of these policies may best be observed in economic and social outputs of many countries such as the USA, Singapore, South Korea, EU countries, and Turkey. However, the number of academic publications that specifically concentrate on the impact of these policies on higher education institutions and authorities remains relatively limited.
Digital Transformation and Internationalization Strategies in Organizations covers a wide range of issues and topics, including employment systems, quality management systems, international ranking systems in higher education, education and language policies in higher education, and business models employed in techno-parks. This book helps higher education institutions manage their manpower and become cognizant of the factors that may exert a drastic impact on their success. It is ideal for managers, executives, IT consultants, researchers, practitioners, academics, professors, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Описание: This book explores how history shapes city development, assesses the role of government at national and sub-national levels through case studies of three secondary cities, Quanzhou, Yiwu and Nannin, and provides a link between city development and internationalization. In doing so, the book highlights alternative paths to development and internationalization that have received little attention in mainstream discussions.
The case studies in the book provide insights into the development and internationalization of cities, linking them to historical, social, institutional and economic factors—narratives that bridge the two themes of city development and internationalization. Strong analyses are accompanied by photographs and charts that allow the reader to learn about Chinese cities beyond the major urban areas in China, garner better understanding of the role of the Chinese state, and appreciate the relevance of “city-specific assets” for city planning.

Описание:
The drive to internationalize higher education has seen the focus shift in recent years towards its defining element, the curriculum. As the point of connection between broader institutional strategies and the student experience, the curriculum plays a key role in the success or failure of the internationalization agenda. Yet despite much debate, the role and power of curriculum internationalization is often unappreciated. This has meant that critical questions, including what it means and how it can be achieved in different disciplines, have not been consistently or strategically addressed.
This volume breaks new ground in connecting theory and practice in internationalizing the curriculum in different disciplinary and institutional contexts. An extensive literature review, case studies and action research projects provide valuable insights into the concept of internationalization of the curriculum. Best practice in curriculum design, teaching and learning in higher education are applied specifically to the process of internationalizing the curriculum. Examples from different disciplines and a range of practical resources and ideas are provided. Topics covered include:
why internationalize the curriculum?;
designing internationalized learning outcomes;
using student diversity to internationalize the curriculum;
blockers and enablers to internationalization of the curriculum;
assessment in an internationalized curriculum;
connecting internationalization of the curriculum with institutional goals and student learning.
Internationalizing the Curriculum provides invaluable guidance to university managers, academic staff, professional development lecturers and support staff as well as students and scholars interested in advancing theory and practice in this important area.
