Описание: For a woman of reproductive age, any medical appointment is a pre-conception visit and an opportunity to address pre-existing conditions that affect pregnancy and the maternal-fetal dyad. However, many neurologic conditions are rarely seen in pregnancy, and limited experience and knowledge may prevent the team from developing a shared approach to these complex conditions during pregnancy. Neurological Diseases and Pregnancy: A Coordinated Care Model for Best Management brings together experts across the disciplines of maternal fetal medicine, neurology, obstetrics, family planning, genetics, anesthesia, psychiatry, neurosurgery, and lactation to provide a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, protocol-driven guide on best care for patients with neurologic disease before, during and after pregnancy.
Each chapter provides a detailed care map on each unique disorder, anddiscusses the use of neurological medications during pregnancy and in lactation. Through this multi-disciplinary approach clinicians can navigate the complexities of preconception and pregnancy care, and help to optimize outcomes for the mother-infant dyad. Beyond pregnancy care, this volume further serves as aresource on best care for the life-course of women affected by neurologic disease including pre-pregnancy planning, genetic counseling, contraception, and sexuality in neurologic disease, as well as post-partum depression and menopausal neurologic changes.

Описание: The successful previous volume on this topic provided a detailed benchwork manual for the most commonly used animal models of acute neurological injuries including cerebral ischemia, hemorrhage, vasospasm, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Animal Models of Acute Neurological Injuries II: Injury and Mechanistic Assessments aims to collect chapters on assessing these disorders from cells and molecules to behavior and imaging. These comprehensive assessments are the key for understanding disease mechanisms as well as developing novel therapeutic strategies to ameliorate or even prevent damages to the nervous system. Volume 2 examines global cerebral ischemia, focal cerebral ischemia, and neonatal hypoxia-ischemia, as well as intensive sections covering traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. Designed to provide both expert guidance and step-by-step procedures, chapters serve to increase understanding in what, why, when, where, and how a particular assessment is used. Accessible and essential, Animal Models of Acute Neurological Injuries II: Injury and Mechanistic Assessments will be useful for trainees or beginners in their assessments of acute neurological injuries, for experienced scientists from other research fields who are interested in either switching fields or exploring new opportunities, and for established scientists within the field who wish to employ new assessments.

Описание: Written from the viewpoint of the practicing clinician, this text is an indispensable addition to the library of anyone who is in the practice of medicine, osteopathy, or chiropractic, as well as for the judge, lawyer, or social worker who may interact with those presenting with the possibility of malingering. Other topics discussed include Waddell’s Signs, the Pinocchio Phenomenon, the Othello Error, the Menace Reflex, the Reliable Digit Span, Lombard’s Test, the Babinski Sign of the Eyebrow, the Hummel Double Conversation Test, the Swinging Story Test, the Judd-Persaud Test, the Teal Test, the Chimani-Moos Test, the Occlusion Effect, the Drop Arm Test, the Drop Leg Test, the Honest Palm Sign, the Elbow-Flex-Ex Sign, Beevor's Sign, Schober's Test, the Babinski Trunk-Thigh Test, and the Barre Test. Advance praise for Neurological Malingering "Dr. Hirsch’s book is long overdue and covers a critical topic of concern to all medical practitioners. This comprehensive treatise is a must for all physicians, psychologists, and others who work with patients who have incentive to gain from the system. Multiple topics related to malingering are presented in 16 straightforward chapters never before compiled in a single volume. I recommend this book highly to anyone concerned about malingering and its impact on the medical system." - Richard L. Doty, PhD, FAAN, Professor and Director, Smell and Taste Center, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania "Malingering affects not only the malingerers, but the persons and institutions around them as well. As a lay person, the readings have certainly made me considerably more sensitive to suspect behavior. And where knowledge of the underlying condition can affect relationships or transactions one is associated with, it is certainly useful to not only recognize its existence, but also to put it within the context of the challenges that it presents to those relationships or transactions. I count the time spent reading this most comprehensive work as well spent. I would further recommend it to others whose interests, decisions and/or professional pursuits could very well be affected by malingering, whether the behavior is or is not purposeful." - Judge Stephen A. Schiller (Retired), Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois
"Overall, this text is excellent, beautifully formatted, and contains many chapters on mild traumatic brain injury that would prove helpful to professionals working in this field. While the text is probably most suited for a graduate level class in a university curriculum, I think it would be an excellent resource for the practicing professional's library--the forensic expert, the life care planner, or the rehabilitation counselor."--The Rehabilitation Professional
" This] book will provide a valuable resource to neuropsychologists and non-neuropsychologists alike for many years into the future as the primary, one-stop shopping bank vault of information relating to symptom validity assessment in the very specialized world of mild traumatic brain injury."--Psychological Injury and Law
"The book is well written, engaging, and easy to read. It goes well beyond simply reviewing validity test literature, as numerous clinical issues related to both mTBI and validity testing are discussed, validity assessment in multiple clinical and forensic settings is described, and up-to-date research findings are provided. I would recommend this book to any clinician (or clinician in training) who wants a practical guide specifically devoted to integrating validity assessment techniques and outcomes into clinical work."--Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology
"This edited book is clearly the best in the field among the several that have just come out on the topic. The chapter authors are leaders in the field, and touch all important areas. The chapters form a logical sequence that make learning about the field easier, are well-written, and are filled with up-to-date scientific findings that will help practitioners navigate well this difficult area of neuropsychological forensic practice. I recommend the book without reservation and am sure it will be useful in guiding neuropsychological assessments and preparations for court." Gerald Young, PhD, C. Psych. York University
"This book provides an excellent, singular shelf reference on the influence of motivational factors and the importance of symptom validating testing in the neuropsychological assessment of mild traumatic brain injury It] marks an essential resource for those who see patients with mild traumatic brain injury." Michael McCrea, PhD, ABPP-CN Medical College of Wisconsin
"This outstanding volume is a unique contribution to the neuropsychologist's library, bringing together two of our most important and timely topics in one text: MTBI and validity assessment for effort, response bias and malingered symptomology This will be an important resource for some time to come and deserves a prominent place in every neuropsychologist's library." Joel E. Morgan, PhD, ABPP-CN New Jersey Medical School
This authoritative volume is the first book specifically devoted to symptom validity assessment with individuals with a known or suspected history of mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI). It brings together leading experts in MTBI, symptom validity assessment, and malingering to provide a thorough and practical guide to the challenging task of assessing the validity of patient presentations after an MTBI. The book describes techniques that can drastically alter case conceptualization, treatment, and equitable allocation of resources. Описание: This book is a comprehensive analysis of the definitions, concepts, and recent research on malingering, feigning, and other response biases in psychological injury/ forensic disability populations. It presents a new model of malingering and related biases, and develops a “diagnostic” system based on it that is applicable to PTSD, chronic pain, and TBI. Included are suggestions for effective practice and future research based on the literature reviews and the new systems, which are useful also because they can be used readily by psychiatrists as much as psychologists. In Malingering, Feigning, and Response Style Assessment in Psychiatric/Psychological Injury, Dr. Young ambitiously sets out to articulate and synthesize the polarities involved in the assessment of response styles in psychological disabilities, including PTSD, pain, and TBI. He does so thoroughly and very even-handedly, neither minimizing the degree that outright faking can be found in substantial numbers of examinees, nor disregarding the possibility that there can be causes for validity test failure other than malingering. He reviews the prior systems for classifying evidence of malingering, and proposes his own criteria for feigned PTSD. These are conservative and well-grounded in the prior literature. Finally, the book contains dozens of very recent references, giving testament to Dr. Young's immersion in the personal injury literature, as might be expected from his experience as founder and Editor in Chief for Psychological Injury and the Law.
