Описание: Explores the world of American folk art collectors - people who saw the beauty and value of the furnishings, implements, and itinerant portraits that mainstream America had hitherto relegated to attics, barns, and dust bins. Although pioneer collectors sought out and preserved objects that are today regarded as icons, little has been known of their motivations, aesthetics, or display techniques.

Описание: Popular notions of Christian spirituality today tend to focus on getting us out of the world or getting the world out of us. Many are looking to spirituality as a means of disengaging from this life--to experience the transcendent or discover personal wholeness. On the other hand, much of popular Christian thought seems to be about avoiding the corruption of the world by being pious and following the rules. But Jesus offers a radical model for living. As the Incarnate One who dwelt among us to accomplish the mission of God, he teaches us how to dwell in the world for the sake of the world. If we are to become like him, we must learn what it means to live out this missional spirituality in the places we dwell. What does a Christian life deeply rooted in the logic of the Incarnation look like? Missional teacher and pastor Barry Jones shares his vision for authentic Christian spirituality focused on becoming more like Jesus. We dwell in a specific place and time in history, with unique bodies and in a world for which God has great purposes of redemption. This presence in the world should lead us to pattern our lives after the life of Jesus who was a boundary breaker, a shalom-maker, a people-keeper, and a wounded-healer. "Jesus' life shows us what it looks like to be fully human, to be whole and holy . . . to be in the world and not of the world, to live passionately for the world and not protectively withdrawn from it, " says Jones. "Allowing the logic of the Incarnation to inform our vision of the spiritual life corrects the tendency toward a self-oriented pursuit of transcendence or a negative spirituality of behavior modification and disengagement from the world." Including practical suggestions for real-life application and questions for discussion, Jones describes living a missional life from a place of deep connection with and dependence on God. Not only must we have a clear and compelling vision of the life we want to live, but we must also cultivate the spiritual disciplines necessary to live out our vision in the specific contexts of day-to-day life. We need a renewed vision of Christian spirituality that leads us to be conformed into the image of Christ who dweltwith us for us.

As women, we are constantly evolving. Changing attitudes toward our gender have accommodated many, but not all. Still, we are told, it is progress. Women can now enter career paths never before considered. They can choose not to marry, not to have children, or become a single parent. Women can marry someone of the same sex, younger or older, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion. The lines, for the most part, between sexism, ageism, and racism have blurred, though they are still visible.
So, if as we were told years ago in the 1968 Virginia Slims cigarette commercial, "We've come a long way baby," just where do we stand now?
In We Dwell in Possibilities: What American Women Think about Practically Everything , Carlotta G. Holton strives to answer this question through the intensive study she conducted over years of research, interviews, and analysis.
So, what do American women think about practically everything? Read on to find out

Описание: Each year since 1888, young Catholic men, selected by their Bishops or religious superiors, have entered the Pontifical College Josephinum, the only such seminary under the aegis of the Vatican in North America. The Josephinum was first established by Father John Joseph Jessing to train priests to serve German- speaking immigrants to the United States. Over time, this unique seminary has evolved into an institution which is both Missionary and National, as well As Pontifical. It has educated seminarians from countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America while always remaining faithful to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Seminarians experience life in community; sharing meals, liturgy, pastoral assignment and recreational opportunities with over 200 others with the same vision and aspirations. Committed to faithful observance of the Program For Priestly Foundation of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Joephinum seminarians grow in the four dimensions of priestly formation: Human, Intellectual, Spiritual And Pastoral. Through apostolic works in the parishes and diocesan outreach programs of Columbus, Ohio, they prepare for active priesthood in their home dioceses or religious communities. In 2013 and 2014 author J. F. (Jack) Leahy interviewed dozens of current seminarians and recorded their reflections, hopes, aspirations and even their concerns and criticisms about this "House That Joseph Built". We applaud their candor and great good humor as they share their personal journeys.
