This book presents a reconstruction of the Hellenistic-Roman glass industry from the point of view of raw material procurement. Within the ERC-funded ARCHGLASS project, the authors of this work developed new geochemical techniques to establish the provenance of primary glass making. They investigated both production and consumer sites of glass and identified suitable mineral resources for glass making through geological prospecting.Because the source of the raw materials used in the manufacturing of natron glass can be determined, new insights in the trade of this material are revealed. While eastern Mediterranean glass factories were active throughout the Hellenistic to early Islamic period, western Mediterranean and Italian sources also supplied the Mediterranean world with raw glass in early Roman times. Описание: Making a corpus of Latin grammatical papyri is not simply a contribution to Latin Papyrology, but especially a decisive element for our knowledge of ‘manuals’ in schools in the Eastern Roman Empire, their linguistic theories and the way in which they used to ‘write’ Grammar. A diachronical and diatopical analysis, in parallel with the known (Technai and the) Late Antiquity’s Artes, will support a new step while making a corpus of Grammaticae Romanae Fragmenta. In 1979, Alfons Wouters published a corpus containing twentyfive grammatical papyri. Only one was Latin, the P.Lit.Lond. 184 (Brit. Libr. inv. 2723) + P.Mich. VII 429, which contains an Ars concerning the parts of speech and other grammatical themes, written on the verso of a military document (II a.D.). Today, after more than thirty years, new documents can be added to Wouters’ corpus, and the book inglobes all of them. Artes Grammaticae in frammenti collects and scrutinizes all the known Latin and bilingual (Greek-Latin and Latin-Greek) grammatical texts on papyrus in order to add further tesserae in the mosaic of our knowledge of forms, practices and circulation of Latin grammar and Roman education.

The contributors face a famously difficult task: ancient authors rarely recorded aspects of women’s lives, including their songs, prophecies, and prayers. Many of the objects women made and used in ritual were perishable and have not survived; certain kinds of ritual objects (lowly undecorated pots, for example) tend not even to be recorded in archaeological reports. However, the broad range of contributions in this volume demonstrates the multiplicity of materials that can be used as evidence – including inscriptions, textiles, ceramics, figurative art, and written sources – and the range of methodologies that can be used, from analysis of texts, images, and material evidence to cognitive and comparative approaches.
