Self-Healing Composite Materials: From Designs to Applications provides a unique resource on self-healing composites for materials scientists and engineers in academia, as well as researchers involved in the aerospace, automotive, wind-generation, construction, consumer goods and marine industries. There is a huge demand for self-healing composites that respond to their environment like living matter. Unlike other composites, self-healing composites are combined with carbon materials and resins to form a recoverable composite material. This book covers the manufacturing, design and characterization of self-healing composites, including their morphological, structural, mechanical, thermal and electrical properties.
The title begins with mathematical background and then considers innovative approaches to physical modeling, analysis and design techniques, providing a robust knowledge of modern self-healing composites with commercial applications.

Описание:
Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures, Second Edition, is a comprehensive review of fatigue damage and fatigue life modeling and prediction methodologies for composites and their use in practice. In this new edition, existing chapters are fully updated, while new chapters are introduced to cover the most recent developments in the field. The use of composites is growing in structural applications in many industries, including aerospace, marine, wind turbine and civil engineering. However, there are uncertainties about their long-term performance, including performance issues relating to cyclic fatigue loading that hinder the adoption of a commonly accepted credible fatigue design methodology for the life prediction of composite engineering structures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, this book is a standard reference for industry professionals and researchers alike.
Examines past, present and future trends associated with the fatigue life prediction of composite materials and structures
Assesses novel computational methods for fatigue life modeling and prediction of composite materials under constant amplitude loading
Covers a wide range of techniques for predicting fatigue, including their theoretical background and practical applications
Addresses new topics and covers contemporary research developments in the field

Описание: This volume describes physical, formal mathematical and exterior (morpho-structural) manifestations of wave dynamics of the Earth, defining both its deep structural image, and the external shape of planet. In addition to the standard imagination about waves in the geological environment as short-term seismological and seismic effects, wave dynamics of the Earth are considered as long-time process, comparable to the geochronological scale. The book consists of a systematic description of the conformities discovered in the set of heterogeneous and different-order objects, which have space-related regularity and recurrence at the different levels of resolution of analysis of natural systems. For expert-geologist it includes the basis of the geodynamic wave-related concept which enables to add to the traditional concept of plate tectonics, as well as the methods of quantitative interpretation of measured geo-fields.

Описание: The third edition of the now standard Dissipative Systems Analysis and Control presents a revised and expanded treatment of dissipative systems theory, constituting a self-contained, advanced introduction for graduate students, researchers and practising engineers. It examines linear, nonlinear and nonsmooth systems, with many examples in each chapter; occasional infinite-dimensional examples are also included. Throughout, emphasis is placed on the use of the dissipative properties of a system for the design of stable and robust feedback control laws or state observers. The theory is substantiated by experimental results and by reference to its application in illustrative physical cases (Lagrangian systems, passivity-based and adaptive controllers are covered thoroughly). The third edition is substantially updated to accommodate new material within the existing chapter structure. The additions include:· the introduction of negative imaginary transfer functions;· the design of stable state observers that use passivity as a tool for their stability analysis;· a new section on robust set-valued control of uncertain Lagrangian systems;· extended section on discrete-time systems, especially the preservation of dissipativity after discretization;. a thorough treatment of nonsmooth set-valued Lur'e systems well-posednees and stability;. an extended chapter on the Kalman–Yakubovich–Popov Lemma; and. over 1000 references.

Описание: This book revisits the long-standing puzzle of cross-scale energy transfer and dissipation in plasma turbulence and introduces new perspectives based on both magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and Vlasov models. The classical energy cascade scenario is key in explaining the heating of corona and solar wind. By employing a high-resolution hybrid (compact finite difference & WENO) scheme, the book studies the features of compressible MHD cascade in detail, for example, in order to approximate a real plasma cascade as “Kolmogorov-like” and to understand features that go beyond the usual simplified theories based on incompressible models. When approaching kinetic scales where plasma effects must be considered, it uses an elementary analysis of the Vlasov–Maxwell equations to help identify the channels through which energy transfer must be dissipated. In addition, it shows that the pressure–strain interaction is of great significance in producing internal energy. This analysis, in contrast to many other recent studies, does not make assumptions about wave-modes, instability or other specific mechanisms responsible for the dynamics – the results are direct consequences of the Vlasov–Maxwell system of equations. This is an important step toward understanding dissipation in turbulent collisionless plasma in space and astrophysics.
Описание: This book explores the thermodynamics of non-equilibrium processes in materials. It develops a general technique created in order to construct nonlinear evolution equations describing non-equilibrium processes, while also developing a geometric context.
