Описание: This book examines the problematic area of narrative structure under conditions of severe stress. Each of the four authors, Baudelaire, Flaubert, Rimbaud and Mallarme, is shown to be concerned with the tension between narrative coherence as a desirable goal and an unfortunate check placed on the `free` play of fantasy.
Описание: Originally published in 1939, Tobe is a children's book portraying the daily lives of an African American boy and his siblings on a small farm in rural North Carolina. The book was written by a white woman, Stella Sharpe Gentry, and illustrated by more than fifty staged photographs of actual children from the Greensboro area taken by Charles A. Farrell.
In the spring of 2017, UNC Charlotte's Center for the Study of the New South and the Charlotte Teachers Institute hosted an evening of round table discussions to explore Tobe and the many complex issues of representation, race, and identity that the book raises. Participants included educators, children's literature and African American culture specialists, and Charlotte community leaders. The discussion was led by Dr. Benjamin Filene, contemporary Tobe scholar and associate professor and director of public history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This volume features essays from eight event participants focused on different aspects of the discussions.

Описание: In both public and private sectors, whether it`s in the secular or the religious sector, considering Catholic Education brings up a question regarding the relevance of religion in the public sector, where education is presented as another alternative of education.
Numerous trends are presently converging in ways that make this moment in mission history significant. These include the growth of short-term service, the multiplication of mission organizations, local churches sending missionaries without an agency, and the internationalization of missions. It is crucial in the midst of such change that we not lose connection with the New Testament model of the missionary apostles. Apostles, now commonly called missionaries, are God's gift for the initial planting phase of the church among every people, to the end of the age. This unique church-planting role is the forgotten foundation of the church. Much of the ineffectiveness in missions is due to our attempts to build Christ's church on a different foundation.
This book will examine five critical questions from the perspective of biblical scholarship, history, and contemporary experience:
Why are missions-minded Evangelicals reluctant to identify missionaries as apostles, considering that the two words have the same root meaning?
How is apostolos used in the New Testament, and specifically, is it sometimes used as a designation for missionaries?
How should we conceptualize an ongoing role for missionary apostles that does not detract from the crucial, unique role of the original Apostles?
What ministry pattern does the New Testament record from the lives of the early missionary apostles?
How should an awareness of missionary apostles guide our mission efforts today?

Описание:
The French anthropologist Claude L?vi-Strauss scoured the Amazon forest for the myths of its primitive peoples. He found that a certain logic governed the construction of these myths—his mythologique; he regarded this logic as innate in the human mind and thus universal. Despite this claim of universality, L?vi-Strauss deliberately sidestepped the myths of the biblical religions as well as the myths of modern societies. This proved to be a missed opportunity since these myths lend themselves very well to his mode of analysis.
The apocalyptic narrative is the ongoing myth of Western society. It makes its first appearance in the Bible in the story of the Exodus and in the Passion of Christ. Its characteristic feature is its opening scenario of one or another form of unendurable oppression— whether the Pharaoh in Egypt for the Jews or the bondage of the body for Christians. “Lord and servant” is the binary pair that prevails and through a process of inversion leads to the Kingdom of Heaven (celestial or terrestrial). The work of Augustine and Luther follow suit as surprisingly enough, do the Lutheran Hegel and the Hegelian Marx. In every case, the initial oppression is inverted and a sublime destination ensues.
A demonic version of the same apocalyptic narrative appears in the 1930s. The Nazis point to their own tale of “oppression” of the German people and in the same fashion proclaim the Dritte Tausendj?hrige Reich. It is a terrible irony but perhaps L?vi-Strauss’s mythologique may help us to see through the “glass” a little less darkly.
