Jahrhunderts unvermeidbar war. Seine Geschichte im Verlauf des s kularen Modernisierungsprozesses muss deshalb, trotz aller Selbstbehauptung, am Ende doch als die Geschichte eines langen, immer wieder stark gebremsten, mehrfach unterbrochenen und abgelenkten Abstiegs beschrieben werden - ein langer Abschied von Macht und Ehre.
