Heterogeneous Photocatalysis: Relationships with Heterogeneous Catalysis and Perspectives highlights the differences between thermal-catalysis and photo-catalysis and indicates borderlines, in particular, the possible synergism between them. The book outlines the basic aspect of thermal- and photo-catalysis, along with the most important characterization techniques. In addition, it presents case studies of thermal-catalytic and photo-catalytic or thermal-photo-catalytic reactions and includes a comparison between the results obtained using an inorganic solid as thermal catalyst and photocatalyst for the same reaction, and in the same setup. Final sections offer information on the preparation methods of (photo)catalysts, various techniques used for their characterization, engineering and economical aspects.

This book will be a valuable reference source for students and researchers involved in heterogeneous photocatalysis and catalysis, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, environment engineering, nanotechnology and green chemistry.

Описание: This book explores the formation of colloidal gold–copper (AuCu) alloy nanoparticles and evaluate their application in heterogeneous catalysis. Metal alloys are extremely versatile materials that have been used since the Antiquity to improve the properties of commonly used metals, therefore the understanding of their properties has fostered the applications in areas such as photonics, sensors, clinical diagnostics, and especially in heterogeneous catalysis, which allows catalyst active sites to be modulated. In this book, readers will appreciate the fundamental aspects involved in the synthesis of AuCu nanoalloys, including real-time information about their atomic organization, electronic properties, as well a deeper understand about the behavior of AuCu supported nanoalloys under real catalytic conditions, providing interesting insights about the effect of the support on the nanoalloy stability. The results presented here open new horizons for using metal alloys in catalysis and also other areas where the metal–support interface may play a crucial role.

Описание:

Heterogeneous Catalysis in Sustainable Synthesis is a practical guide to the use of solid catalysts in synthetic chemistry that focuses on environmentally benign applications. Collating essential information on solid catalysts into a single volume, it reveals how the efficient use of heterogeneous catalysts in synthetic chemistry can support sustainable applications. Beginning with a review of the fundamentals of heterogeneous catalytic synthesis, the book then explores the basic concepts of heterogeneous catalytic reactions from adsorption to catalyst poisons, the use of non-traditional activation methods, recommended solvents, the major types of both metal and non-metal solid catalysts, and applications of these catalysts in sustainable synthesis.

Based on the extensive experience of its expert author, this book aims to encourage and support synthetic chemists in using solid catalysts in their own work, while also highlighting the important link between heterogeneous catalysis and sustainability to all those interested.

Heterogeneous Catalysis: Materials and Applications focuses on heterogeneous catalysis applied to the elimination of atmospheric pollutants as an alternative solution for producing clean energy and the valorization of chemical products. The book helps users understand the properties of catalytic materials and catalysis phenomena governing electrocatalytic/catalytic reactions, and - more specifically - the study of surface and interface chemistry. By clustering knowledge in these fields, the book makes information available to both the academic and industrial communities. Further, it shows how heterogeneous catalysis applications can be used to solve environmental problems and convert energy through electrocatalytic reactions and chemical valorization. Sections cover nanomaterials for heterogeneous catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis mechanisms, SOX adsorption, greenhouse gases conversion, reforming reactions for hydrogen production, valorization of hydrogen energy, energy conversion and biomass valorization.

Описание: Mixed oxides are the most widely used catalyst materials for industrial catalytic processes. The principal objective of this book is to describe systematically the mixed oxide catalysts, from their fundamentals through their practical applications. After describing concisely general items concerning mixed oxide and mixed oxide catalysts, two important mixed oxide catalyst materials, namely, heteropolyacids and perovskites, are taken as typical examples and discussed in detail. . These two materials have several advantages: 1. They are, respectively, typical examples of salts of oxoacids and double oxide, that is, the two main categories of mixed oxides in solid state chemistry. 2. Both exhibit excellent catalytic performance in nearly crystalline state and are used in several industrial applications. 3. They have studied for many years. In addition, metal oxides functioning as a catalyst support (carrier) are included. Although the supports are very important in practical applications, and tremendous progress has been made in the past decades, few systematic reviews exist. It is notable that heteropolyacids and perovskite exhibit unique performance when used as a support. Fundamental catalytic science and technology and solid state chemistry necessary is presented for the proper understanding of mixed oxide catalysts as well as for R&D. For the latter, the concept of design of practical catalysts is very important. This is considered throughout the book.
