Описание: -Piketty unleashed on real-time economics is a revelation.- -- Guardian
Thomas Piketty's work has proved that unfettered markets lead to increasing inequality. Without meaningful regulation, capitalist economies will concentrate wealth in an ever smaller number of hands. For years, this critical challenge to democracy has been the focus of Piketty's monthly newspaper columns, which pierce the surface of current events to reveal the economic forces underneath. Why Save the Bankers? brings together selected columns from the period bookended by the September 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers and the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015. In crystalline prose, Piketty examines a wide range of topics, and along the way he decodes the European Union's economic troubles, weighs in on oligarchy in the United States, wonders whether debts actually need to be paid back, and discovers surprising lessons about inequality by examining the career of Steve Jobs. Coursing with insight and flashes of wit, these brief essays offer a view of recent history through the eyes of one of the most influential economic thinkers of our time. -Anyone with an interest in politics, monetary policy, or international diplomacy will get a kick out of Piketty's clear discussion.- -- Shelf Awareness

Описание: The Japanese economy has experienced a structural deflationary gap since the mid-1970s. Although the gap was decreasing in the bubble period, the deflationary economy has become more serious since the bursting of the bubble. Accordingly, this book attempts to examine the causes of the Japanese deflationary economy, characterized as a structural deflation and discusses how to alleviate the prolonged slowdown in order to restore Japan to a trajectory of high economic growth, with a special focus on the function of income distribution. In addition, not only income distribution flows but also accumulation of assets and debts in the household sector are taken into account for improving the prolonged economic stagnation of Japan by employing an econometric analysis with modeling and forecasting techniques. Furthermore, this book makes a long-term forecast of the Japanese economy, up to the fiscal year 2030, with policy scenario simulations in order to capture the long-term growth path of the Japanese economy and to analyze the effects of alternative policies on the economy.

Описание:
As the Chinese economy has moved to a "New Normal" of slower growth and changed model of development, its income distribution is being affected in a number of ways. What exactly are the impacts brought by the new changes? How should we view China's income distribution on the whole? What trend will we see in the future? With regard to these and other questions that arise against the backdrop of the economic "New Normal", the book provides an in-depth analysis of the new issues, characteristics and trends in relation to income growth rates, income and wealth gaps, and the proportion of personal income in China.
Описание: International migration and urbanization as economic processes can provide great opportunities to solve local and regional economic and social problems and lead to the leveling of global economic unfairness and multi-complexity. However, uncontrolled migration and urbanization can easily destroy market stability and create many new social and economic problems both in developed (due to migration) and developing (due to urbanization) countries. Migration and Urbanization: Local Solutions for Global Economic Challenges is a collection of innovative research that sets basic rules and patterns for state regulation of urbanization and international migration and for increasing the economic efficiency of developed and developing countries. Additionally, the book evaluates the economic impact of urbanization and international migration at the global, national, and regional levels. While highlighting topics including economic security, modern mechanisms, and migration policy, this book is ideally designed for government officials, economists, educators, policymakers, industry leaders, business managers, academicians, researchers, and students.
