Описание: A collection of groundbreaking research by a leading figure in neuroscience.
Описание: Have you ever been involved in discussions with a group of people where one or two individuals made contributions that appeared to be far much better and more reasonable in comparison to others? Or have you ever been involved in an argument with a neighbor or another parent in school, and you could not understand why the other individual's reasoning and conclusions appeared to be so juvenile in comparison to yours? Since human beings thrive in social environments, it is highly likely you have come across people whose thinking and reasoning are similar to yours and others who appear to be very different. Most of the time, we might be tempted to believe that the other person, whose reasoning and conclusions are different from yours, has a serious problem that would require professional help. However, you would be surprised to discover that the difference between you and other people's reasoning and way of thinking was the application of critical thinking and reasoning skills. The comparison between the reasoning, conclusions, and decisions of an individual who is correctly applying the principles of critical thinking and one who is not could be as different as night and day. The interesting thing here is that one of the parties can be so offended at the other, yet that should never be the case. The objective of writing this book is to help the reader to understand as much about critical thinking as possible and to apply the skills and reasoning in his or her everyday life. In an ideal world, if everyone were to apply these skills in every interaction, there would be very little to no wars and conflicts. Critical thinking helps people to analyze situations for what they truly are, and it also allows individuals to understand that it is possible to have opposing views and still be correct. After reading this book and applying the information within its pages, your way of reasoning, understanding, discussing, and making decisions should change for the better. This book will cover the following areas and more: Tools and strategies for developing reflective thinking skillsCritical/reflective thinking, history, and theoriesTools and strategies for critical thinkingCritical thinking skillsCritical thinking and its application in sound reasoning and textual analysis skillsSound and cogent argumentsCommon fallacies in reflective thinkingConcept mapping, history, and theoriesMain features of concept maps and how to come up themDefinition of brainstorming and rules to abide by for successHow concept mapping and brainstorming help to generate insightsCritical thinking skills are a proven path to success for studentsHow critical thinking boosts your problem-solving skillsSteps to critical thinking as it relates to problem-solvingPractical examples of improving communication skills, self-confidence, problem-solvingWould you like to know everything you need concerning this topic?Download this book and feed your mind with what you need to know about critical thinking. "Theodore Jacobs broke novel ground in 1991, thinking about analytic engagement in this classic and beloved book that is presented in this new edition, insuring interest for new generations of psychoanalysts. Jacobs's gi was (and is) the transla)on of challenging theory into its subtle depths of clinical application. He integrates ego psychology, self psychology and object relations. Nowadays he belongs in Chodorow's 2004/2019 category of 'The American Independent Tradition, ' using an intersubjective ego psychology after Loewald and Erikson that is fresh and contemporary. Masterfully he shows fruitful details of how countertransference actually works verbally and nonverbally, moving along clinical process. Demonstrating how limited was the old view of the analyst's reactive feelings and attitudes as hindrance, Jacobs shows the impact of its use for self-attunement, and ultimately sensitivity to the patient's life and mind. He builds here on his 1986 inventive interactive concept of 'enactment'-- a term nowadays so useful in our thinking about unmentalized traumatic aspects of analytic interaction that we have forgotten how controversial it once would have been. . . . enthusiastically recommended for all who practice and care about psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically-oriented therapies." --ROSEMARY H. Описание: This book examines the typical pattern of communication development in children and adolescents to enable primary care physicians as well as other clinicians, therapists, and practitioners to assist parents in making informed decisions based on current research. It offers an overview of communication disorders in children and adolescents that typically present before adulthood. The book describes current assessment, diagnostic procedures, and evidence-based interventions. Chapters outline the standard course of speech milestones and ages to begin screening for deficits and their risk factors. Subsequent chapters review best practices for every aspect of treatment, including care planning, discussing disorders and interventions with parents, making referrals, and collaborating with other providers. The book also discusses evidence-based interventions for specific disorder types such as language impairment, stuttering, language disabilities, and hearing impairment. In addition, the book offers guidance on how to speak about care planning as well as quality of life issues related to communication disorders with other caregivers and parents. Featured topics include: * Screening and identification procedures of communication disorders. * Key elements to providing family-centered care. * Common causes, assessment, and treatment of specific language impairment (SLI) in children. * Hearing loss and its impact on the development of communication in children. * Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the role of attention in the development of language in children. * Communication development in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Clinical Guide to Assessment and Treatment of Communication Disorders is a must-have resource for clinicians and related professionals, researchers and professors, and graduate students in the fields of child, school, and developmental psychology, pediatrics and social work, child and adolescent psychiatry, primary care medicine, and related disciplines.

Описание: More than 10 years ago, with funding from the Connecticut State Depart- ment of Education and the encouragement of its consultant on early child- hood special education, Virginia Volk, we began our studies offamilies of infants who were hospitalized on the newborn intensive care unit of the John Dempsey Hospital located at the University of Connecticut Health Center. BettyJo McGrade, Deborah Allen, and Maria McQueeney played pivotal roles in the early years ofthis research program. Additional funding from the National March of Dimes Foundation, the University of Con- necticut Research Foundation, and the National Institute ofMental Health prepared the ground for the study we describe in this book. The study began in 1984 through a National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research center grant to the University of Connecticut Pediatric Research and Training Center, directed by Robert Greenstein and then by Mary Beth Bruder. LindaWalkercoordinated the project and conducted the interviews with families before hospital discharge. Pamela Higgins conducted all follow-up interviews and assisted with data manage- ment and analysis. Elizabeth Trueb Roscher provided support services to a portion of the fanrilies who were studied. Deborah Begin transcribed interviews and handled the administrative details of the project. Richard Mendola was theconsultanton data analysis and the selectionofcomputer software and hardware.
