Описание: The family was at the center of intense debates about identity, community, and nation in colonial Tamil Nadu, India. Emerging ideas about love, marriage, and desire were linked to caste politics, the colonial economy, and nationalist agitation. In the first detailed historical study of Tamil families in colonial India, Wives, Widows, and Concubines maps changes in the late colonial family in relation to the region's culture, politics, and economy. Among professional and mercantile elites, the conjugal relationship displaced the extended family as the focal point of household dynamics. Conjugality provided a language with which women laid claim to new rights, even as the structures of the conjugal family reinscribed women's oppression inside and outside marriage. Описание: In the Present Book Chapter-I is an introductory one.Chapter-II describes the concept and causal relations by econometric models. It presents the different representations such as autoregressive, Moving – average and univariate representation of causality. Chapter-III explore lucidly the various tests for causality, we come across in econometrics. In regression analysis, researchers are interested in testing for the exogenity of variables this testing is closely related to the causality test proposed by Granger, which is explained in detail in this chapter. Chapter-IV gives the conclusions about the present study. The various relevant research articles have been presented under the title BIBLIOGRAPHY.

This book is a compilation of daily prayers along with their purposes. As a new mom myself, I wanted this book to be extremely handy in today's fast-moving times where we want to give it all we have while simultaneously understanding the 'why' of everything.
These prayers have been with me night and day through my highs and lows. I would like to share them with my readers.
While growing up, the evening ritual was to finish our sports, freshen up, pray and eat amongst our loved ones--our own version of Eat Pray Love. Living like this every day would bring out the best in all of us. And to have this in today's day and age would be like icing on a cake. This book is meant to be a quick handbook for today's fast-paced life.

Описание: Life is a brief, waking dream—but who casts the spell? Two striking women, Kamala and Shaly, helm an unusual household, fueled by their intense, tempestuous romance in a rapidly changing Bangalore. Downstairs, Kamalas sons take care of each other in their own way-the twins are bound together by an early accident that paralysed Shiva, making Aadi his brothers caretaker. Beautiful Shaly is the object of more than one persons affections—and she, too, has a complicated past. When Kamalas mother dies, she returns to Kerala—to an ancestral house of horrors which lies next to the cremation grounds in Cochins outlying reaches: a place which, nevertheless, is home. However, nothing can prepare her for the devastation that ensues in this lyrical, hallucinatory trip of a story. Utterly gripping and powerfully unsettling, Sangeetha Srinivasans phenomenal debut subverts received ideas about society, individuality and motherhood. Acid unravels the secrets that lurk beneath the surface oif our lives, and marks the entry of a searing new voice in the Indian literary landscape.

The medieval Rajput queen Padmini - believed to have been pursued by Alauddin Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi - has been the focus of numerous South Asian narratives, ranging from a Sufi mystical romance in the sixteenth century to nationalist histories in the late nineteenth century. The Many Lives of a Rajput Queen explores how early modern regional elites, caste groups, and mystical and monastic communities shaped their distinctive versions of the past through the repeated refashioning of the legend of Padmini.
Ramya Sreenivasan investigates these legends and traces their subsequent appropriation by colonial administrators and nationalist intellectuals, for varying different political ends. Using Padmini as a means of illustrating the power of gender norms in constructing heroic memory, she shows how such narratives about virtuous women changed as they circulated across particular communities in South Asia between the sixteenth and early twentieth centuries.
This book will interest historians of memory, gender, community, culture, and historywriting in South Asia. Illustrating how enduring legends emerged out of particular precolonial repositories of "tradition," the book also addresses the nature of colonial transitions and precolonial historical consciousness.

Beginning in the late nineteenth century, India played a pivotal role in global conversations about population and reproduction. In Reproductive Politics and the Making of Modern India, Mytheli Sreenivas demonstrates how colonial administrators, postcolonial development experts, nationalists, eugenicists, feminists, and family planners all aimed to reform reproduction to transform both individual bodies and the body politic. Across the political spectrum, people insisted that regulating reproduction was necessary and that limiting the population was essential to economic development. This book investigates the often devastating implications of this logic, which demonized some women's reproduction as the cause of national and planetary catastrophe.
To tell this story, Sreenivas explores debates about marriage, family, and contraception. She also demonstrates how concerns about reproduction surfaced within a range of political questions--about poverty and crises of subsistence, migration and claims of national sovereignty, normative heterosexuality and drives for economic development. Locating India at the center of transnational historical change, this book suggests that Indian developments produced the very grounds over which reproduction was called into question in the modern world.
