Описание: This book explains to physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, interested physicians and clinicians the theoretical and practical applications of single- to multi-channel functional electrical stimulation for a wide range of neurological symptoms. The targeted electrical stimulation of several muscle groups, timed to each other, can initiate and support a complete movement sequence and thus improve motor learning. Renowned experts from research and practice have compiled numerous application examples based on the available evidence in this comprehensive form for the first time. In addition, the reader will find exciting and informative contributions to the current study situation and effectiveness analyses. The text is enriched by videos on EMG-triggered functional multichannel electrical stimulation, stimulation of muscle groups in lower motor neuron lesions, and FES therapy approaches for dysarthria and swallowing disorders. From the contents: - FES in lesions of the upper motoneuron, lesion of the lower motoneuron and mixed forms - Combination of FES with mirror therapy and botulinum toxin - Motor learning, neuroplasticity, ICF-based goal setting and the use in home-based therapy - Basic principles, current parameters and their implications - FES in rehabilitation of facial paralysis, unilateral vocal fold paralysis, dysarthria and dysphagia, and neuro-urological deficits

Описание: A comprehensive guide to neurological rehabilitation for physical therapist assistants, Umphred`s Neurorehabilitation for the Physical Therapist Assistant, Third Edition presents contemporary, evidence-based principles and techniques for examination, intervention, and treatment for individuals with neurological conditions.
Описание: This second edition is primarily for trainees and junior pediatric residents in adult rheumatology who will be seeing pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases. The short chapters have clear tables and many clinical photos to demonstrate key features of diseases and allow the reader to be well informed when seeing patients with rheumatic diseases.
This book describes the four most common central nervous disorders (Parkinson, stroke, dementia and multiple sclerosis) by focusing on the similarities of their symptoms. This analysis is necessary in order to determine the appropriate treatment method for individual patients.
In physical therapy there are various methods available for treating patients affected by a neurological disease, yet the method presented here is the only one to include systematic interventions adapted to the patient's needs, which are determined by means of a health situation analysis.
The book offers practical and applicable information for allied health professionals seeking interventions to help patients function better in their own environment. In addition, this book features updated information on the "van der Brugge method," focusing on a targeted program to stimulate movement in the elderly with dementia.
This book will be of interest to neurologists and physiotherapist
Описание: Iterative learning control (ILC) has its origins in the control of processes that perform a task repetitively with a view to improving accuracy from trial to trial by using information from previous executions of the task. This brief shows how a classic application of this technique – trajectory following in robots – can be extended to neurological rehabilitation after stroke. Regaining upper limb movement is an important step in a return to independence after stroke, but the prognosis for such recovery has remained poor. Rehabilitation robotics provides the opportunity for repetitive task-oriented movement practice reflecting the importance of such intense practice demonstrated by conventional therapeutic research and motor learning theory. Until now this technique has not allowed feedback from one practice repetition to influence the next, also implicated as an important factor in therapy. The authors demonstrate how ILC can be used to adjust external functional electrical stimulation of patients’ muscles while they are repeatedly performing a task in response to the known effects of stimulation in previous repetitions. As the motor nerves and muscles of the arm reaquire the ability to convert an intention to move into a motion of accurate trajectory, force and rapidity, initially intense external stimulation can now be scaled back progressively until the fullest possible independence of movement is achieved.
Have you ever wondered how our brainstems contribute to our bodies? Well, this is the vagus nerve
. You'll be shocked to hear that this helps our brain to obtain knowledge about several different body functions. Putting simple, this nerve is what connects our brains with, or lungs, back, abdomen, and neck.
Were you aware that the Vagus nerve can affect several different body areas, including one's voice? If the nerve is weakened, it can sound dark, strained, or even strong.
The nerve can affect us to the point that it can cause issues like obesity, chronic health conditions, and even mood disorders.
The good news is you can solve issues with the Vagus nerve, thereby fixing the physical health issues as well as the mental health concerns you face, such as depression.
In this book, you'll learn all the knowledge you'll need to effectively control your own vagus nerve - while there are medications out there that can actually activate your vagus nerve when inserted, there are also ways you can cause your body to control it yourself. Within the chapters of this book,
you will find ways to control the vagus nerve, which include:
- What is Vagus Nerve
- Vagus Nerve branches
- Alternative Stress Therapies
- Anatomy and Functions of the nerve vagus
- Vagus nerve as part of the body's natural healing system
- Vagus nerve and its role in the treatment of Depress and PTSD
This book is your guide to being more aware of the vagus nerve, to find out how it can help us, and to learn more about it.
Описание: This book examines the scientific principles and practical applications of electrotherapy. It explains how electrical stimulation activates and transforms muscle, how it works on the cardiovascular system compared to active exercise and how it can be used.
