Описание: Although there are a variety of textbooks and manuals of psychiatric disorders, few have focused on the management of treatment-resistant patients. Those that exist have largely focused on treatment-resistant depression and even these are now largely outdated. Because psychiatrists and other mental health care professionals increasingly manage patients who fail treatment from family practitioners and other non-psychiatric specialists, a single practical volume summarizing the evidence-based medicine as well as the art of managing treatment-resistant patients is a much needed volume for practitioners, psychiatry residents and other mental health workers. Most importantly, both psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions will be included, a shortcoming of many previous volumes. Management of Treatment Resistant Major Psychiatric Disorders contains chapters authored by leaders in the field on the management of the major treatment resistant psychiatric disorders.
Описание: This third edition volume expands on the previous editions with an update on the latest techniques used for the detection, genotyping, and investigating pathogenesis of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro and in vivo. The methods covered in this book mostly focus on routine clinical diagnosis, surveillance, research, and practice for treatment of patients infected by multi-drug resistant S. aureus. The book also covers the epidemiology of MRSA, molecular typing approaches, clinical treatment of MRSA infections, and animal models of drug discovery. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Informative and cutting-edge, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Protocols: Cutting-Edge Technologies and Advancements, Third Edition is a valuable resource for researchers looking to set up new methods to study S. aureus, and will also be very useful for technicians and scientists working on other bacterial pathogens.

Описание:
More than forty years ago, Dr. Aaron T. Beck's pioneering Depression: Causes and Treatment presented the first comprehensive account of all aspects of depression and introduced cognitive therapy to health care providers and patients struggling with one of the most common and devastating diseases of the modern age. Since that classic text first appeared, the appreciation of the multifaceted nature of mood disorders has grown, and the phenomenological and biological aspects of psychology are increasingly seen as intertwined. Taking these developments into account, Beck and his colleague Brad A. Alford have written a second edition of Depression that will help patients and caregivers understand depression as a cognitive disorder. The new edition of Depression builds on the original research and approach of the seminal first edition, including the tests of Freud's theory that led to a new system of psychological theory and therapy, one that addresses the negative schema and automatic thoughts that can trap people in painful emotional states. Beck and Alford examine selected scientific tests and randomized controlled trials that have enhanced the cognitive approach since the time it was first introduced. Incorporating accepted changes in the definitions and categories of the various mood disorders into its discussion, Depression addresses the treatment role of revolutionary drugs, such as the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in relation to cognitive approaches. Beck and Alford explore research on neurotrophic and neurogenesis theories of depression. They also report on advances in psychosocial treatment of depression, including the value of cognitive therapy in the prevention of relapse.

If you want to know more about the polyvagal theory, then keep reading...
Polyvagal theory tells us that the body operates in two chemical states: the state of danger and the state of safety.
However, it also tells us that certain functions of contemporary life are causing the vagus nerve to remain in the danger state far longer than is healthy.
As long as the vagus nerve is tensed and defensive, it cannot regulate the organs in a normal way. The healing processes that happen in the state of safety are delayed or disrupted. The digestive functions that happen in the state of safety are chemically disturbed, and the health of the gut microbiome is compromised.
you must begin to look at the healing potential in your entire lifestyle
Wellness practices are most effective when they are holistic, and everything you do comes with both positive and negative effects.
When working with the vagus nerve, the approach to health becomes a delicate balance.
"It's about learning to trust that your body does have the power to care of itself, and feeling empowered to make lifestyle choices that support your body's natural healing abilities"
(Christopher Rundes)

Описание: Depression has always been at the center stage of psychiatry, with many resources allocated to its study and treatment. Depression and Anxiety: Prevalence, Risk Factors and Treatment first reviews the emerging Integrative Evolutionary-Stress Response-Predictive Processing Framework Theory, which may offer useful insights for clinical practice. Sexual problems and dissatisfaction with sex are commonly associated with depression. More awareness and a better understanding of this condition can lead to effective treatment and enhancement of quality of life. Following this, the authors compare benzodiazepine use in patients with major depression and anxiety disorders to determine which demographic features are related to benzodiazepine use and constitute risk factors for benzodiazepine dependence. Literature suggests correlations between the abnormalities in the hypothalamicapituitaryaadrenal axis and anxiety disorders, especially in terms of cortisol levels. As such, this compilation systematically assesses the available research data in the last 10 years, shedding light on the association between psychoneuroimmunology and anxiety. The closing article uses pooled data from 1983-2008 to assess the psychophysiological measures of anxiety. Various databases were searched for articles in English using search words related to psychophysiological measures of anxiety, markers for anxiety, physiological changes anxiety, and monitors of emotional change. The implications of the findings will contribute to further research on improved management for anxiety disorders.
