She's a doctor in the military, and she takes care of sick and injured soldiers. She knows that Belinda loves mysteries and figuring things out. Belinda's dad and Gramps take very good care of her. But Belinda is hoping that if she solves the mystery and FINDS Christmas, maybe her mom will come home in time for Christmas Eve. Armed only with a crayon, a lot of imagination, and a great sense of humor, Belinda keeps track of what she has figured out every single day and draws a picture to show her mom. But being a detective is a big job Some days, Belinda thinks Christmas is a reindeer, or a tree, or Santa, or making a snowman. From a trip to The Nutcracker (picture Custard in the Corps de Ballet )to a snowy sleigh ride, Belinda has lots of Christmas fun as she draws clue after clue. Singing carols on the Jolly Trolley with her friends makes a great drawing One snowy night, while Belinda is busy detecting and drawing pictures, Assistant Detective Custard sneaks out and gets lost in the snow. Belinda is desperate to find him before he freezes, and Custard's story becomes an important chapter in Belinda's search for what might be important about Christmas. Belinda asks for help in solving the mystery every morning from someone whom she calls "Howard" (you know - "Howard be Thy name").
