Описание: In Japanese Distribution Channels, readers have the work of Japanese marketing scholars who present in-depth and intimate knowledge of distribution in Japan. These scholars have not only closely studied these systems for many years and in numerous cases worked in them, but have also, as consumers, relied on these channels to meet their needs. This combination of scholarship and experience is an ideal synergy that is unmatched in the existing literature on Japanese distribution channels. It stands in stark contrast to other books on Japanese distribution where foreign researchers spend a few weeks or months visiting Japan and then become "instant experts" on Japanese distribution by writing about what they have seen.Although there are many misconceptions about Japanese distribution channels, this first and only guidebook in English on the subject clarifies many of these misconceptions. The authoritative contributors reveal a great depth of insight on many aspects of distribution systems in Japan, including: structure of Japanese distribution channels nature of Japanese markets public policy toward distribution changes in distribution structure environmental effects on distribution intrachannel relationships in Japan business practices in Japan effects on distribution channels from Toys "R" Us trends and problems in Japanese distributionThose who seek an understanding of Japanese distribution channels--international business executives from top to middle management, marketing managers, export managers, government officials, consultants, academics and students--benefit from reading this penetrating analysis. The depth of expertise and insight provided by Japanese research scholars who have studied, worked in, and relied on Japanese distribution channels throughout their lifetimes cannot be found in any other source. Business executives, academics, consultants, government officials, and any serious students of Japanese distribution channels can significantly enhance their knowledge from reading this authoritative book.
Описание: Over the past few years there has been very important progress in the sodium channel field. We now have a good understanding of the molecular structure of these channels, of how they work, how many of them there are, and the mechanisms that restrict their expression to particular cell types. Importantly, we are beginning to understand how the expression of, and properties of these channels are modulated in various pathological states, particularly those involving neuronal hyperexcitability (such as chronic pain), and are in a position to develop therapeutic strategies based on the restoration of normal sodium channel properties. This book brings together leading researchers working on these topics to discuss recent advances in this field. Particular attention is given to the clinical applications of our knowledge of sodium channel function, especially in the fields of chronic pain and epilepsy. With broad and up-to-date coverage of this important subject, this book represents compulsory reading for basic and medical scientists with an interest in the function of sodium channels.

Описание: MIMO systems have been known to better the quality of service for wireless communication systems. This book discusses emerging techniques in MIMO systems to reduce complexities and keep benefits unaffected at the same time. It discusses about benefits and shortcomings of various MIMO technologies like spatial multiplexing, space time coding, spatial modulation, transmit antenna selection and various power allocation schemes to optimize the performance. Crux of the book is focus on MIMO communication over generalized fading channels as they can model the propagation of signals in a non-homogeneous environment. Relevant MATLAB codes are also included in the appendices. Book is aimed at graduate students and researchers in electronics and wireless engineering specifically interested in electromagnetic theory, antennas and propagation, future wireless systems, signal processing.
Описание: Against the backdrop of the emerging 3G wireless personal communications standards and broadband access network standard proposals, this volume covers a range of coding and transmission aspects for transmission over fading wireless channels. It presents the most important classic channel coding issues and also the exciting advances of the last decade, such as turbo coding, turbo equalisation and space-time coding. It endeavours to be the first book with explicit emphasis on channel coding for transmission over wireless channels. Divided into 4 parts: Part 1 - explains the necessary background for novices. It aims to be both an easy reading text book and a deep research monograph. Part 2 - provides detailed coverage of turbo conventional and turbo block coding considering the known decoding algorithms and their performance over Gaussian as well as narrowband and wideband fading channels. Part 3 - comprehensively discusses both space-time block and space-time trlis coding for the first time in literature. Part 4 - provides an overview of turbo equalisations, also referred to as turbo demodulation. The book systematically converts the lessons of Shannon's information theory into design principles applicable to practical wireless systems. It provides overall design performance studies, giving cognizance to the contradictory design requirements of bit error rate, implementational complexity, coding and interleaving delay, effective throughput, coding rate and other related systems design aspects in a comprehensive manner.
Описание: This volumes discusses various aspects regarding the capacity/achievable data rate of stationary Rayleigh fading channels. First, it analyses bounds on the achievable data rate with zero-mean proper Gaussian input symbols, which are capacity achieving in the coherent case, i.e., in case of perfect channel knowledge at the receiver. These bounds are tight in the sense that the difference between the upper and the lower bound is bounded for all SNRs. The lower bound converges to the coherent capacity for asymptotically small channel dynamics. Furthermore, these bounds are extended to the case of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels and to the case of frequency selective channels. In a further part, the present work studies the achievable rate with receivers based on synchronized detection and a code-aided channel estimation. For a specific type of such a receiver an approximate upper bound on the achievable rate is derived. The comparison of this approximate upper bound and the achievable data rate with receivers using synchronized detection based on a solely pilot based channel estimation gives an approximate upper bound on the possible gain by using this kind of code-aided channel estimation in comparison to the conventional receiver using a solely pilot based channel estimation. In addition, the achievable data rate with an optimal joint processing of pilot and data symbols is studied and a lower bound on the achievable rate for this case is derived. In this context, it is also shown which part of the mutual information of the transmitter and the receiver is discarded when using the conventional receiver with synchronized detection based on a solely pilot based channel estimation.

Описание: Plasma membrane-associated channels known as gap junctions, along with their protein building blocks—connexins—have an important functional role in a range of immunological processes, including heart function, cell growth and specialization, and early development. Spanning basic science and potential clinical applications, Connexin Cell Communication Channels: Roles in the Immune System and Immunopathology assembles and synthesizes four decades of the most important research carried out in this field. The book first provides a historical overview of the discovery of these membrane channels in cells and tissues of the immune system. It describes their general molecular and biological characteristics and examines how they participate in the evolution, organization, function, and regulation of leukocytes, as well as their interaction with other tissues. The next section examines immunologically related disease scenarios where gap junctions and connexins have been shown to play a fundamental role. The contributors explain how gap junctional communication participates in the establishment and maintenance of immunological properties such as antibody and cytokine production, as well as lymphocyte immune surveillance in both physiological and pathological conditions. The book explores the most important technical approaches used and how they have been specially adapted to answer key biological questions particular to the mobile nature of leukocytes. It also describes the most recent understanding of how gap junctions and connexins participate in antigen recognition, cross-presentation, lymphocyte activation, and in the assembly and function of the immunological synapse. Finally, the book focuses on the latest progress made on translating the knowledge gained to specific treatment modalities. Topics in this section include approaches for reducing scarring and cardiac arrhythmia, combating inflammation in the central nervous system, and enhancing epithelial tissue repair. A comprehensive view of achievements in this promising field, the book will inform and update specialists, clinical practitioners, and those studying the potential for commercial applications.
