Описание: For a senior undergraduate or first year graduate-level course in Introduction to Topology. Appropriate for a one-semester course on both general and algebraic topology or separate courses treating each topic separately. This text is designed to provide instructors with a convenient single text resource for bridging between general and algebraic topology courses. Two separate, distinct sections (one on general, point set topology, the other on algebraic topology) are each suitable for a one-semester course and are based around the same set of basic, core topics.

Optional, independent topics and applications can be studied and developed in depth depending on course needs and preferences.

Computational topology

Описание: This book presents the basic concepts from the emerging field of computational topology that combines topology theory with the power of computing to solve problems in diverse fields. Written from a computer science perspective, the book enables non-specialists to grasp the ideas and so participate in current research in computational topology.

Описание: This is a book on topology and geometry and, like any books on subjects as vast as these, it has a point-of-view that guided the selection of topics. Naber takes the view that the rekindled interest that mathematics and physics have shown in each other of late should be fostered and that this is best accomplished by allowing them to cohabit. The book weaves together rudimentary notions from the classical gauge theory of physics with the topological and geometrical concepts that became the mathematical models of these notions. We ask the reader to come to us with some vague notion of what an electromagnetic field might be, a willingness to accept a few of the more elementary pronouncements of quantum mechanics, a solid background in real analysis and linear algebra and some of the vocabulary of modern algebra. To such a reader we offer an excursion that begins with the definition of a topological space and finds its way eventually to the moduli space of anti-self-dual SU(2) connections on S4 with instanton number -1. Iwould go over both volumes thoroughly and make some minor changes in terminology and notation and correct any errors I find. In this new edition, a chapter on Singular Homology will be added as well as minor changes in notation and terminology throughout and some sections have been rewritten or omitted. Reviews of First Edition: “It is unusual to find a book so carefully tailored to the needs of this interdisciplinary area of mathematical physics...Naber combines a knowledge of his subject with an excellent informal writing style. (NZMS Newletter) ...this book should be very interesting for mathematicians and physicists (as well as other scientists) who are concerned with gauge theories. (Zentralblatt Fuer Mathematik)

Описание: Enabling insight into large and complex datasets is a prevalent theme in visualization research for which different approaches are pursued. Topology-based methods are built on the idea of abstracting characteristic structures such as the topological skeleton from the data and to construct the visualizations accordingly. There are currently new demands for and renewed interest in topology-based visualization solutions. This book presents 13 peer-reviewed papers as written results from the 2005 workshop “Topology-Based Methods in Visualization” that was initiated to enable additional stimulation in this field. It contains a longer chapter dedicated to a survey of the state-of-the-art, as well as a great deal of original work by leading experts that has not been published before, spanning both theory and applications. It captures key concepts and novel ideas and serves as an overview of current trends in topology-based visualization research.
