Описание: Much has been written about reperfusion injury in the past decade but unfortunately the information has been generally presented in the form of original specialist papers and little if any integral publication exists on the topic, summarising and analysing the clinical impact of the condition and its management. The pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms of reperfusion injury are complex and, regarding diagnosis, individual diagnostic techniques have been proposed but without a proper assessment of the relative values of these methods. A publication dealing with integral diagnostic strategies would be welcome by the managing physician. Management of the condition is also problematic, as strategies that appear to work in the experimental models do not translate into beneficial interventions in patients. There is a need for these issues to be addressed and discussed in a monographic fashion. Management of Myocardial Reperfusion Injury will tackle these issues in a modern and systematic way and the information will be delivered in a fashion that will be appealing to the reader.
Описание: Examines the advantages of technetium 99mmTc sestamibi and its uses in diagnosis, management and prognosis of coronary artery disease. Each chapter covers a particular set of clinical problems using case studies, with correlation of sestamibi studies with ECG, scintigraphy and angiography.
Описание: In recent years, echocardiography has evolved from a qualitative diagnostic tool into a complex and sophisticated technique that is able to provide accurate, quantitative information driving the management of most cardiac diseases. Despite the availabilit
Описание: This text answers the need for a concise reference on the rapid development and abundance of information on this subject. It examines direct, transmyocardial and percutaneous approaches to revascularization, growth factors protein and gene therapy.
Описание: This collection of slides depicts a large number of myocardial infarcations and related cardiovascular complications. The slides include microscopic and stained sections, 12-lead electrocardiograms, coronary arteriograms, coronary angiograms, rhythm strips, scans and tomograms.
Описание: This newly revised and expanded reference documents the ascendancy of silent coronary artery disease from an esoteric phenomenon in the early 1970s to a key component of the ischemic spectrum in the new millennium. Containing nearly 500 citations, including work published in 1998 and 1999, the Fourth Edition of Silent Myocardial Ischemia and Infarction
examines the latest pathophysiological evaluations of chest pain
assesses the prevalence of newly recognized types and presentations of myocardial disease
determines the most reliable and most recent noninvasive methods of detecting myocardial ischemic syndromes
identifies indications for cardiac catheterization in asymptomatic patients
considers patients' prognoses in light of new long-term follow-ups
discusses when, if, and how silent myocardial ischemia should be treated based on current studies
and more! Written by a pioneer in the field and including more than 140 tables, drawings, and photographs, Silent Myocardial Ischemia and Infarction, Fourth Edition continues to be crucial for cardiologists, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, internists, family physicians specializing in cardiology, public health physicians, physiologists, and medical school students in these disciplines.

Описание: Explores the developments in the field of regenerative medicine, focusing both on the benefits of using stem cells in myocardial repair and regeneration and on the challenges associated with making this a mainstream therapy. This title examines the developmental processes of the human heart in order to develop strategies for regeneration.

Описание: To achieve cardiac regeneration using pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, researchers must understand iPS cell generation methods, cardiomyocyte differentiation protocols, cardiomyocyte characterization methods, and tissue engineering. This book presents the current status and future possibilities in cardiac regeneration using iPS cells. Written by top researchers who present new data in these fields, this book reviews cardiac cell therapy for ischemic heart disease and explores in vitro generation of efficacious platelets from iPS cells. It also discusses modeling arrhythmogenic heart disease with patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells.

Описание: Injured mammalian hearts do not regenerate but scar. This is a major medical problem, as ischemic heart disease is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Essential clues for human heart repair are uncovered when zebrafish and newt are found to regenerate cardiac muscle after injury. This book presents the major advances of the last decade in the field of cardiac regeneration. These recent advances include: demonstration that zebrafish, a genetically tractable system, can regenerate heart; the identification of several new stem cell populations in the heart; demonstration that stem cells can be used to improve heart function; and demonstration that induction of cardiomyocyte proliferation is a realistic future option to repair injured hearts. This book also provides detailed reviews of the research on model organisms capable of heart regeneration as well as innovative translational research to achieve regeneration in mammals, that comprises work on blood born stem cells, endogenous cardiac stem cells, paracrine factors, reawakening of cardiomyocyte proliferation, and bioengineering. More importantly, the book, in the concluding chapter, dovetails the studies with a comprehensive overview of clinical trials.
