Описание: The United States patent system has become sand rather than lubricant in the wheels of American progress. This work tells the story of how changes in patenting - an institutional process that was created to nurture innovation - have wreaked havoc on innovators, businesses, and economic productivity.

Описание:
Like much of SMEs research, innovation studies of small enterprises have commenced later and are less numerous. The focus of such studies remains high-technology enterprises, which continue to attract both academic and popular interest, oblivious to the innovative endeavours of people in traditional low-tech industries.
This book attempts to address this imbalance through a comprehensive analysis of innovation in this largely neglected area. Based on case studies of seven small innovative food companies, this book presents an in-depth analysis of innovation in the Scottish food and drinks industry and unravels a lesser-known approach to effective low-cost product innovation, which is simple and economical, yet elegant and successful.
Using careful data collection and rigorous statistical testing, the analysis and findings in this book address a wide spectrum of interests: academics in business schools, policy makers in governments and executives and entrepreneurs in food and other low-technology sectors.

Описание:
Fifteen years ago, a company was considered innovative if the CEO and board mandated a steady flow of new product ideas through the company's innovation pipeline. Innovation was a carefully planned process, driven from above and tied to key strategic goals.
Nowadays, innovation means entrepreneurship, self-organizing teams, fast ideas and cheap, customer experiments. Innovation is driven by hacking, and the world's most innovative companies proudly display their hacker credentials.
Hacker culture grew up on the margins of the computer industry. It entered the business world in the twenty-first century through agile software development, design thinking and lean startup method, the pillars of the contemporary startup industry. Startup incubators today are filled with hacker entrepreneurs, running fast, cheap experiments to push against the limits of the unknown. As corporations, not-for-profits and government departments pick up on these practices, seeking to replicate the creative energy of the startup industry, hacker culture is changing how we think about leadership, work and innovation.
This book is for business leaders, entrepreneurs and academics interested in how digital culture is reformatting our economies and societies. Shifting between a big picture view on how hacker culture is changing the digital economy and a detailed discussion of how to create and lead in-house teams of hacker entrepreneurs, it offers an essential introduction to the new rules of innovation and a practical guide to building the organizations of the future.

Описание: While innovation is widely recognized as being critical to organizational success and the well-being of societies, it requires careful management to ensure that innovation processes have the best possible impact. This volume provides a wide range of perspectives on the nature of innovation management and its influences.
Описание: This book provides theoretical and practical backgrounds for the digital creativity management and related Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) results on the basis of a set of realistic assumptions in which several topics such as knowledge network, diversity, individual creativity, team creativity, exploration and exploitation, and organizational creativity are discussed. Until now, there has been no clear-cut methodology by which creativity management can be articulated and materialized into the business process management within companies and corporate performance. Though many approaches have been proposed to tackle the creativity research issues, this book adopts a new approach which assumes that the network structure formulated by interrelationships among team members decides individual creativity and team creativity as well, and ABM-based simulations lead to robust analysis of corporate performance over time. Typical examples of network structure under consideration in this study are degree centrality and structural hole (an opportunity to broker the flow of information between people, and control the projects that bring together people from opposite sides of the hole). This book suggests detailed analysis of source code used in implementing a prototype digital creativity simulation engine with related snap-shots and ABM results, so that readers can understand hard core of how to design and implement ABM tasks related to target problems, and extract implications from the ABM results.
